  1. And here is where Molitor’s decision (and yes I am quite certain he made that decision) to use Pressly yesterday bites the Twins.
  2. Yes, let’s pretend Molitor isn’t in his office watching the game relaying instructions. How about a real answer?
  3. The problem with “using your eyes” is that they are often misleading. The reason you don’t recall Sano’s play at third costing the Twins games is because he’s only played 25 games there. The reason the Twins have lost most of their games this year has typically been because of their offense and occasional bullpen blow ups. Doesn’t mean Sano isn’t a terrible defender. I for one don’t care about how Sano “rubs” people, his weight or his motivation. I care about results on the field. His were not good in 2016. They were inconsistent, though better, in 2017. They are downright abysmal this year. He is at the stage of his career where he should be showing improvement from year to year. He’s going completely the other way. That’s a problem.
  4. Riiiiiiiight. Molitor isn’t in his office watching the game relaying instructions. Everyone who believes that stand on your head.
  5. You lost me at “doesn’t field his position poorly”. Second worst in the league. That’s poor.
  6. So, 9 man bullpen. Somehow the MOY calls on one of 4 guys that worked yesterday in a game the team was losing 5-0. I’d like to hear a Molitor defender justify that move.
  7. Only the MOY having a 9 man bullpen would use one of 4 guys that pitched yesterday in a game that was not winnable. I’d like to hear a Molitor defender justify that move.
  8. Are you suggesting that his success or failure isn’t directly tied to the success or failure of the franchise as a whole? Perhaps the reason so much is written about him is because he is THAT important to this franchise.
  9. Having Mauer back on the roster truly makes Morrison redundant. Especially when neither is hitting.
  10. I wish I could explain Kepler. He isn’t striking out at a rate anywhere close to Sano or Buxton. He’s hitting line drives at MLB average rate. His BABIP is horrendously low. This year and career wise. I suspect shifts, but I wish someone with more knowledge and who is better at interpreting data could confirm or offer another explanation. Not hitting into shifts I think would be fixable at the MLB level. He made tremendous strides hitting lhp at the MLB level.
  11. If the Twins are truly in genuine contention in 2020 and 2021, I think the “problem” takes care of itself. That would likely mean Sano and Buxton at all star to possibly mvp levels. Kepler and the secondary core all performing at expected development levels. Genuine contention and winning a playoff series or two or three will put more fannies in the seats and generate more revenue. More revenue will allow for more payroll. Sure, it is likely that the Twins won’t keep all of their core. But hopefully it will be because guys down on the farm are forcing their way on to the team.
  12. Here’s 2017. https://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=3b&stats=fld&lg=all&qual=350&type=1&season=2017&month=0&season1=2017&ind=0&team=0&rost=0&age=0&filter=&players=0&sort=24,d Sano is a negative rated fielder. I’ll let you change it to 2018. I’m having phone issues. But he’s second to last this year. Rated by over 200 innings. Yes, he is one of the worst fielding third basemen in MLB.
  13. Baseball tends to be cyclical. Someone will have success with a contact and baserunning approach and the rest of the league will try to copy it. But, I absolutely think the current game where the “3 true outcome” types are valued is ridiculously boring. Homeruns are boring. The most exciting play in baseball? Triple IMO. Anytime there is a play at the plate also. No, I am not sorry they banned violent collisions either. The play at the plate is still exciting without seeing some guy get his head knocked off.
  14. My weather spies tell me there is a window from about 8 to 11 to get the game in.
  15. Well, most of them are young compared to Belisle. You’ll find that many of the truths we cling to depend greatly on our own point of view.
  16. I think the Sano at 3b ship has sailed. If he starts another dozen games there at the mlb level, I’ll be shocked.
  17. Usually. But some people get upset when the decisions by the FO get questioned.
  18. I agree with this. How often does a prospect come up and never go back down? Pretty rare. Certainly hasn’t for the Twins in awhile. Hildenberger hasn’t gone back down yet, but he probably came close in April. But he was already 26 when he first came up. Romero is 23. That’s significant IMO.
  19. Isn’t May pitching for Rochester now?
  20. The Powers that Be just sent Petit down and replaced him with Motter (granted bringing in Belisle was part of that). Point being if they felt Petit was the better choice they presumably they would have found a way to make it work. Not saying they are right, just that Motter over Petit was a choice.
  21. That makes me even more confused. The Rangers broadcast team is “speculating” that they hit Profar because the Twins failed to protect Escobar when he was HBP. Wouldn’t hitting Leon qualify as taking care of that?
  22. Only if we can get Liam Neeson as a throw in. He has a unique set of skills, so I have heard. Hopefully, he can teach some of them to the players.
  23. Correct me if I am wrong, but in the game Escobar was HBP didn’t Gibson hit a guy? Intentional or not, I’m sure the other side wasn’t happy. Isn’t it logical to assume they went after Escobar for THAT reason? So, wouldn’t hitting Profar (who plays for a different team) in retaliation for hitting Escobar be escalating a situation that should already have been done?
  24. I believe they have 48 hours to change it. I would stay tuned.
