  1. https://www.mlb.com/twins/news/the-hall-of-fame-case-for-joe-mauer/c-300524458 I'm sure most of y'all have seen this article on MLB, but just in case you haven't... it's a good read as to why Joe belongs in the HOF. God speed and God Bless Joe. I for one will miss seeing you on the diamond.
  2. Nice write up Thrylos. If nothing else, La Tortuga is one of those players who makes the game "fun" to watch and he's easy to root for. Besides that though, I hope the Twins keep him around as he (IMHO) actually brings value to the team. He's just that type of player that every team needs to have at least one of on its roster. Viva La Tortuga!! Huzzah!
  3. Great write up Nick. It's nice to see something positive, thank you.
  4. I know Boras is a lot of hot air and that’s a big part of his job as an agent. When his parasitic host... err I mean client eats well, he eats well. It’s part of the game and you have to accept it to some degree. But I just can’t shake how he in particular actually makes me root for ownership and MLB league leadership. Think I need to get my head checked.
  5. Not entirely my point, but not arguing it really either. Although Baseball Reference has that line listed as Glavine’s MLB debut year (unless I misread it, which has been known to happen before).
  6. Came across this MLB stat line of some "Soft Tossing" Lefty and it reminded me that we we should all temper our expectations some from the SSS (both good and bad/poor). - 5.54 ERA / 50.1 IP / 55 H / 34 R / 5 HR / 33 BB / 20 SO / 5.51 FIP / 1.748 WHIP Not the best debut by any stretch. The player's name... a certain HOF'r by the name of... Tom Glavine. Who we all know went on to have an "meh" career . Note: I'm not saying the Gonsalves will be a HOF type player, or even have a lengthy career for that matter (Yes, his debut was not pretty). However, when you break down his appearances, he did do some things well and had some good moments (baby steps, not everybody can be Blake Snell or Walker Buehler). This gives him something to work on going into ST. So for now, I'd keep him at least in the Top 15 personally. That may change, but I'm willing to give him a bit of a longer leash based on his potential.
  7. Great write up Steve. Thx much as always for the dedicated work .
  8. Impact bat, solid defense, proven veteran player... If he could stay healthy I would be all for it. If I was GM (and thankfully for all of us I'm not) I might actually roll the dice with this one. It carries some risk, but.. it could very well work out to be a good deal.
  9. Seth, didn't Javier injure and have surgery on his non-throwing shoulder if I remember correctly? Also, have you heard any news about how his rehab is progressing or if he has even started it yet?
  10. So... you're saying that you're Mike Sixel and you don't approve of this message?
  11. I'm pretty sure he's saying the potential is there. Buxton has God given talent of epic proportions, rarely seen in baseball. Whether or not he is fully able to harness it remains to be seen. Hence many folks (myself included) are hoping that Baldelli can help him along that path.
  12. I also have nothing much more than an uninformed opinion to offer. But wasn't Shelton also brought in by Falvine last year? Perhaps they keep him around since he is more "their type of guy", and worked with and alongside Baldelli in Tampa.
  13. I am sadden to hear this. The "Field of Dreams" is littered with the shattered remains and broken souls of those who quested for immortaility, and in doing so... attained it. At this point, I would rather see Sano get his life on track and be a good son, husband, father; even if it means he never plays another inning a baseball again. This is just a game. Take a knee before God Sano and pray that he grants you the strength to be a better man.
  14. Nicely done this year Matt. Really appreciate the time and effort y'all put into TD.
  15. Ahh, Mike.... I went back and pictured this post in the voice of Ben Stein in my head and I couldn't stop laughing . Just so you know, I don't disagree with you and I don't feel your wrong in any way. Just having a little fun .
  16. It's like a National Holiday. I even have a yearly calendar reminder on my phone .
  17. What do the drafts tell us?? Not much. Every single one of those kids who was drafted highly (and even most of those drafted low) have a TON of ability. What have we all learned over years of watching baseball? This game is tough, like insanely and unfairly tough. How many players and especially pitchers have we seen come up short on the world's toughest stage? When you think about that, the numbers are pretty staggering. Not a single player who has ever been drafted by the MLB, has been short on pure physical talent. Not a single one. We can fault the player, we can fault the team because they didn't develop said player. But the biggest thing in my eyes? Fate. Some young men are destined to become great between the foul poles... others are not, and only God knows the answers ahead of time. So in my flawed (and probably not entirely sober right now) understanding of the universe, I think we stress WAY too much about it. The Twins aren't the only team to ever have multiple players not pan out, it's baseball. Even if you won't admit it here, at least in that small quite part of yourself that we don't show to other people, rejoice that these young men have realized at least a portion of their hopes and dreams. For this is a good and righteous thing, and the Lord is pleased at that.
  18. I won't disagree with that. It's a near constant struggle with my son, who despite being only 14 is throwing in the mid 70's consistently from the bump and has a really strong arm from the outfield. Despite this, he and his friends that he plays with, all declare how inadequate and "weak" their velocity is at times. I and his coaches have to constantly tell him it's not always about velocity. Location and movement are actually more important than just all out speed. So yes, I fully concur that fans and players have become to fixated on all out max effort on every pitch, to the detriment of the player's bodies.
  19. Pretty good point diehard. I have spent more and more of my time in recent years around pitchers and pitching coaches. The single biggest development point that I have discovered...?? Repeatability of mechanics. "Stuff" can only carry you so far (although freakish spin rates can help ). The pitchers who stick around and those who especially thrive all have one major thing in common, and that is they repeat their delivery time and again. With Stewart, I believe we are starting to see that consistency. He's got the "stuff" to pitch (no, I do not care about what # starter he is... only that he can pitch) and we are starting to see the early fruits of that labor I think.
  20. Unearthed Run??? Did he change his name to Indiana Stewart the famed archeologist?
  21. It's almost tragically comical in a sense. It seems like we see this so often with players throughout the league. A guy has good or even great "stuff", but he just can't fully harness it. I really hope that he can, and I'll continue to pull for him to do so, but... like you said, he just isn't getting it done right now.
