  1. Very true. Although perhaps I should clarify “struggled” . I meant it more in the sense that Gibby really had to work hard to get those outs because he wasn’t nearly as sharp as he can be. I agree, if this type of start reflects his worst of the rest of the season... I’ll totally take it.
  2. I agree with pretty much everything... except (sorry) that no pitcher in baseball has the stuff to get away with it when they leave a ball on a hitter's dinner plate. You're absolutely right though, Gibby just flat out struggled today overall (even accounting for the cold).
  3. We see them every year when they come to town to play Jacksonville. This group has the chance to be even better this year, so really looking forward to seeing some of the new additions to this year's squad.
  4. You mean much like their defense...and offense against the Eagles?... Too Soon???
  5. I think we can safely assume by now that Brian is not a fan of small ball?
  6. We've all seen enough games to know that Blue was squeezing the zone or is just very conservative with his calls. It wasn't horrible or unfair, just a very unforgiving zone. And yes, because my son pitches I'm rather biased towards pitchers
  7. My wife continuously remarks to everyone that she has three teenagers in the house (which is funny because we only have 2 children? )... at which point I remind her that it was her that decided to marry me and she knew what she was getting into . Is it really my fault that my emotional growth stopped at 13?
  8. Nice tie-in to two of my favorite past times, civil war history and baseball .
  9. Nice write up Cody. Seems pretty spot on and realistic to how the first part pans out. With a few lucky bounces as well, the Twins could be looking at 20 wins to start. Man, seems really nice to be able to say that without have to stifle a snicker or snort.
  10. I keep watching clips of Berrios' curveball... the Orioles hitters are going to need an especially long after game shower because that is just absolutely filthy. "Shudders"... Actually I think I need a cigarette myself now
  11. Just finished watching the game (love MLB.com for out of region coverage). Wow, just wow. La Machina esta en fuego hoy.
  12. Hope so as well. Gibson has great stuff, I think we all would love to see him get consistent results from year to year.
  13. Minnesota Twins 92-70 (Second in AL Central, Wild Card #1) Offensive Player of the Year: Brian Dozier Most Home Runs: Miguel Sano Starting Pitcher of the Year: Jose Berrios Relief Pitcher of the Year: Addison Reed Twins Rookie of the Year: Stephen Gonsalves or Gabriel Moya Ok, I cheated on the RoY. Why? First off, because I can and secondly... Well I really can't choose between the two. I truly feel that both could be impactful.
  14. Is it funny that I'm more excited about Opening Day than Christmas? I started toe tapping and couldn't sit still last night and it hasn't stopped yet. Seriously... I think I may be more excited about this than my kid's birthdays (Ok, I'm kidding about that one a little bit ). Wow, I'm really a terrible human being
  15. Great write up. Looking forward to the rest of the 40 Man roster.
  16. Does that mean we can call him Headly? You there!!! Give the Governor a Harrumph!!
  17. I also think it's difficult to peg "true" relievers at the lower levels. So many times we have seen pitchers start out as one or the other to only wind up switching roles, so to speak (Tyler Rogers or even Jay for that matter as examples). We may be better served by simply looking at them pitching assets in general. Just a thought, but great write up either way Travis. Awesome to read.
  18. If it's Evil, Wicked Witch of the West, 1st half Gibson for the home opener, then yes... If it's Good Witch Glenda of the 2nd half Gibson, they should be fine
  19. While that comes across as a weebit harsh - From a whole career and body of work standpoint, you have a valid point. Psuedo put it well, Guardado was I believe speaking more to his work ethic and attitude and the beginning of Johan's career. If you compare the two players from 20/20 hindsight, it's not even remotely fair... but if you use the analogue of their starting points with the Twins, I believe that changes the view some. We all love Johan, but when he started as a Twin's Rule V pick out of the bullpen... well, initially it was "Great stuff, but Meh'. If he makes it, cool. If not, we just send him packing".
  20. How much of that would you attribute to rust and the time off from injury?
  21. That's awesome. Love that stuff too. Adam Wainwright is from my town (still lives here too) and my son has been fortunate enough to run into him a few times because of playing baseball. Even after all these years of him playing, it is truly awesome to see just how much he loves the game (just don't wear Cubs stuff around him... not a huge fan, lol), and how much he wants to give back to the younger generation of players. If anyone is curious, google "Adam Wainwright Field - Brunswick, GA". I believe (?) he bought the land for the complex, and he also helped spearhead the development of it.

Great read. I love connecting with stories about baseball's past and just the drive that people have for the game. It has always been that passion for the game, that grit and determination, the absolute love that has planted baseball deep into the collective heart and soul of America. For this and other trailblazers and pioneers we are grateful and say a hearty Amen and profound thank you.
