  1. Congratulations to Perez and his family by the way. If it's a boy, hopefully they name him Harmon or Joe
  2. Pretty good point, but I have a feeling though that it lines up more with where they (Stewart and Little) are in the rotation and their rest cycle than anything else.
  3. A hit is a hit in the end. Doesn't matter how it happens … Also major kudos to Gibby. He really looked comfortable out there today.
  4. Great take Thieres. Thanks for the write up.
  5. Awesome write up Jeremy. Appreciate the time and effort on a topic that causes a fair bit of confusion for most of us.
  6. I think a potent Houston lineup might disagree with you on the last part.
  7. You could always hit the mute, and turn on the radio broadcast... just saying.
  8. 1, one, o + 1. As in One appearance. Vasquez may or may not be ready to fully contribute at the MLB level yet, but we simply cannot make that call after just one appearance.
  9. Have you watched any other games/teams this year thus far? Twins BP usage is pretty much on par. So, I’ll have to disagree on the smoke and mirrors part.
  10. Well, great job and a mighty "Huzzah!!" to Jax and Ober. Go Get em' tomorrow boys.
  11. You know what y'all? It's baseball, it happens. Yeah, they had their chances but came up short. It's baseball. Philly looks to be a pretty good team this year and the Twins showed well overall. It was a good, close game and I enjoyed watching it. Sucks that they lost, but now we move on to the next contest. Man, I love this game
  12. Agree to disagree. Spring Training is just that... Spring Training. His results thus far in his professional career would argue a different story. He had a poor start, he'll be fine.
  13. It’s a fair question, but the biggest reason is simply because the Twins were up 9-3 w/2 outs. There’s no reason to make that throw and chance an error that allows a run (or 2) to score without giving your defense or the pitcher a chance to make a play. Thus the defensive indifference on the runners. The odds are always in the defense’s favor. Even if the batter does everything correct, statistically speaking he will “fail” (or get out) at least 70% of the time. Teams will take those odds more often than not.
  14. Concur. Great write up Steve. LOVE the minors reports.
  15. The comment was not really a matter of “right” or “wrong”. Just poking a little fun for the vitriolic nature of the original comment since Spring has only just now Sprung .
  16. Fuhren Sie den Teig aus, der die Hoffnungen und Traume der degnerischen Speiler zerstort!
  17. Yes, technology is fallible. There are however a number of factors that can influence the reading that the device gives you. Just for discussion purposes. One of the more common devices that teams/scouts/etc. use, is made by Stalker (and Stalker is also one of the more common brands used by law enforcement agencies as well ). Stalker is also pretty good quality for the most part. That being said, some of the biggest factors that influence the reading that the radar gives you are wind interference, other objects in the way or traveling along with the object, and probably one of the greatest culprits is how far off the center of path of travel the device is from the object being tracked (the greater the degree of separation from path of travel and the device, the larger the deviation from the actual speed). Also, we tend to not often take into account maintenance. If the device is not maintained or stored properly, heat, humidity, bumping or jarring can take their toll and cause the device to read improperly. Given the cost of most of these, you can guess that they are used as long as possible. The most common hand held Stalker for example runs between $400 and $600 per unit, while I believe Rapsodo and Trackman (?) run about $3500+ per unit.
  18. I’m not sure bites the dust is an entirely correct analogy. IMHO, Granite is almost a victim of the numbers game. I still really like him as a player and the skills he can bring to the game. I just don’t think he was really going to get a good opportunity here. It sucks to see him go, but in the end I’m happy for him and I wish him nothing but the best in his next chapter.
  19. Not really. A good change up is really more about the movement. If you remember, Johan Santana’s change up just died in front of the plate. It’s all that movement plus the slight speed differential that makes it so effective (a good speed difference sits about 10 mph between the FB and CU). It’s also a HUGE “feel” pitch. This is what makes it so hard for so many pitchers to throw (think Tyler Duffy). If the pitcher can’t develop that “feel” for the change, all it is is just a BP fastball.
  20. Excellent point. I'd fully agree that using him in the pen this year wouldn't be a bad idea and may actually be beneficial to him. We also saw this type of usage with Adam Wainwright when he first broke into the league. He worked out of the pen a lot initial and still went on to be a first rate starter.
