  1. I’m not the smartest “Baseball Guy” but it seems the duo is an average way of plugging up some rotation spots for 4 years. I get they can be traded, but the disaster scenario where they both are sub-par and act to block the way of the young guns just scares me. Personally, I go Darvish. If you can’t get him, roll with what you got and maybe add a wild card signing to compete. I think we may be getting ahead of ourselves to say we are in win now mode rather than win over the next five years mode. Crazy Mitch Brain Scenario: Roll out what we have and see what Gonzo and Romero do first 2 months of the year. If they have what it takes, give them a shot. If not, plenty of assets to go pop the trade market and grab what you need for the push. This gives us the ability to see what we have, flexibility to extend/sign who we have and then make the decision when we have a feeling on the season. I think we still are in 3-5 year plan mode. I don’t see our young core at the point where we have to capitalize now or we miss it. Let’s ride this young wave and leave doors open. Could you imagine have 3 Hughes type contracts sucking up valuable payroll when the young guys are better (I get it, worst case scenario) To me, I work to avoid this before taking a big risk. Long story short......
  2. Odd debate here. I’m not mr. morality and won’t claim to have made all the best decisions in my life but I know one thing stays true 99.99% of the time, speculation on this stuff usually makes idiots out of everyone. I have found myself to never be wrong when I just let the facts come out before I say things that may look very bad and me way of another. If Miguel did this, he’s gone in my eyes. If she is lying, that is too bad for all people this really happens too. But to debate this really puts a bad look for people on this board. You will never look good for debating this subject
  3. Castro and middling prospects? For real? Am I underestimating Castro’s value or did they just get Stanton for a bag of baseballs? If this is the case, at least we don’t have to talk about trading Dozier for 3 more months. Being the NL MVP got a return that isn’t exactly expected
  4. First off, I'll preface this comment that I have a bias. Ruesse and Souhan are hack writers. If they have a strikeout rate, it's much higher than Sano when it comes to writing Lastly, find it funny and ironic. A lazy article written about a player's lazy tendencies..... hmmm... didn't hear this in May when Sano was on a tear. I know it's click bait but I feel cheered for wasting my time reading that garbage. Souhan has a reputation for intentionally preposterous articles. Sure, Sano could be slimmer and strikeout less in a perfect world but who is perfect. We have other issues as a team and I think picking on a young star when he is on the DL is a FedEx Friday move
  5. I'd go Dozier for Buehler, Bellinger and Alvarez. Man, those threads are funny to read now. What a steal that would have been eh? Now for the serious part. I don't trade Dozier because I do not think you get value back for him at this point. We are in the weak position of wanting to move him. Erv won't bring back the haul we think we need. If he does, I would be shocked. I think you let him keep mentoring the young. I would like to see #4 and #5 spots open up by trading all the pieces that have been there this year(Probably just have to DFA). Trade Garcia, Keep Maqina, Erv and Mejia. Then fill in until September and let the kids pitch the rest of the month. Give them a taste before next year and position yourself for 2018. I think Romero and Gonsalves should get a few starts up here to get a taste for the offseason.
  6. Agreed. I think he is holding the tiger by the tail at this moment. I did notice one thing though, and maybe this isnt a change from the rest of the year. He seems to be utilizing a higher velocity fastball with less sink. I saw a couple 94 and 95's come up on the TV and this could be something that gets him back on track IMO. I hated it when the Twins tried to turn him into a 89-92 mph sinker baller. I think his arsenal does not play well with that type of fastball. I could understand if he was a pinpoint precision guy that added movement and could paint with it, but he isnt. To put a 89-92 mph sinker with a slider and change-up seems to really lower the effectiveness of the offspeed. Before you roast me, let me try to explain my scatterbrain logic. Sliders and change-ups are most effective with the hitter has to be aware that a fastball can get by him. This causes him to make faster decisions and thus allows the slider and change-up to be more effective when he incorrectly guesses. At 94-95, Gibson's offspeed is far more effective since he isnt a big curveball slinger. When they changed him to a 89-92 mph sinker baller, to me it took away that quick decision aspect and allowed the hitter to be too comfortable with not worrying about the fastball getting past him. I think if Gibson can utilize a 94mph 4 seam, a 90 mph sinker and his offspeed, he really could be a legit 3-5. His peripherals are still bad, but it seemed to me in his last start that he was utilizing more velocity and then mixing in the others and for the first time this year it seemed like the hitters were a bit uncomfortable. Efficiency needs to get better but I am starting to like his mix a lot better. Maybe I am way off.... Luckily, all you guys are really good at catching misinformation.
  7. Oh Boy.... Now you have done it.... Famous last words
  8. I have so much confusion at this moment with this club. The draft was outside the box (Which could be ok) and their management of the minors and the bullpen seems like they are just trying to show everyone how smart they think they are. We DFA a guy that has a chance to be at least an average LRP and keep 4-5 guys in the pen that we have clear proof of pure incompetence..... LOOK HOW SMART WE ARE
  9. This poor dead horse, it is constantly being beaten. He is batting .247 over his last 30 games. He steals bases and has tremendous defense at 23 years old. Is he Mike Trout, no, no one but Mike Trout is Mike Trout. But jesus people, I refuse to believe that other teams would look at Buxton in their lineup and not be excited because of his contributions even when he isn't reaching his full potential. Sure, if he is doing this at 26, I will get on board but thankfully 23 isn't usually a year these guys plateau when they have this kind of raw talent. These statements are just pure lazy. The KID has a ton of upside and is still a positive WAR player when he struggles. We often sit here and lament bad trades when these guys bud outside of the Twins but want to trade them when they are young and struggling. Are we really not willing to look at this as a process and let a kid blossom. I will take .250 with stolen bases and gold glove defense from our CF any day. Throw in the fact that he has miles of growth that could happen and I don't see how we can really say things like this. Don't really get the people that have this opinion, but I guess it would be par for the course if we traded him and he goes nuts. But I don't think I have to worry about this FO giving up on this kid.
  10. Let's get real. We are sellers in a months time. True colors coming out this homestand.
  11. I get the idea with this post.... but I can't help myself. So you are asking if we are done jumping to conclusions because the so called "draft experts" are praising the draft of the Twins. Funny, seems like they also are jumping to conclusions when we really won't know how well they drafted for 3 or 4 years. Seems as if we have been put in our place by other people who are rumored to be better at jumping to conclusions. I am boxed I guess. I hope this is a replica of Houston 2012 and to be honest, I have no clue what it will be. But in reality, no one directly or indirectly related to this process has 20% of a clue how this will end. It is all just fun banter. SO NO, I AM NOT DONE JUMPING TO CONCLUSIONS.... FIRE FALVINE!!!! (strong whiff of sarcasm)(Am I officially the first to start this in replacement of TR?)
  12. Really. He is hitting at a ~.250 clip in the last 28 days last time I looked (Yesterday)... I would say that shows some competence.
  13. I could be seriously wrong here, but I work with a guy that is a life long Indians fan and he didn't seem surprised at all with these types of moves in the draft. Seems as if Falvine is under the model of grabbing the athletic hitters early and throwing darts at the board later for pitching. Seemed to build a decent club in Cleveland. He also pointed out that the Indians stockpiled SS prospects as well. This also explains quite a bit about the strategy here. These are high value objects for trades and they can also be moved to different parts of the field if their hit tool is that promising. I am not saying I am 100% sold, I am actually more skeptical than most, but I will give these guys the benefit of the doubt after talking to my colleague. Seems there is a track record here
  14. I guess I wouldnt consider Buxton a one trick defensive pony when over his last 28 days he is hitting .247 with a .313 OBP and 7 stolen bases... Maybe that wasn't the whole point of this post but I think the last thing I call Buxton is one-trick. Otherwise I am with you completely on Vielma... guy has little value when you have a couple SS in the system and MLB that can play adequate SS and provide offensive firepower. Just hate to see a good argument spoiled with a bad example. Cheers
  15. Im just failing to see how some of these guys are benefiting us over seeing what we have in the minors with these prospects. It's not like the B-squad yesterday is setting the bar all that high. Seems like a no lose situation to bring some of these guys up at this point.
  16. Well we had to get our weekly bullpen blow up in... I think the next weapon of mass destruction will be called the Belisle/Breslow project. Sure to wreak havoc when it blows up. Hopefully like most WMD's, the owners have them stores away in a secret location but never really intend to use them.... Twins have yet to realize this.
  17. It's not that it is one start. I just didn't see the "dominating" type stuff that encompasses a future ace. I was quite underwhelmed. No bad day excuse is really going to change that. Berrios struggled last year but you saw the stuff. That's all
  18. I'm in your camp. Watched a few innings and he got hit hard and really wasn't fooling OSU's better hitters. Saw 92 consistently and 89-94 range... I just don't really see what people are calling a #1 potential. He has #3 written all over him. I lean towards a risky shot at Greene and a kid that has a golden arm and loads of athleticism.
  19. Not saying I believe it is best case scenario. Just looking at how this thing looks in a year or two and Gordon is pushing for MLB time.... I guess the likely scenario is that Gordon pushes for SS time and we keep the infield the way it is. I would be fine with this as well.
