    That's one way to look at it....but I think many people would enjoy being outside on a Friday night in downtown Minneapolis at a ballgame, rather than on a couch in Bismark, ND. Not knocking your living room, just saying sometimes there's more to it. I went to one game last year. Twins lost to KC and Aaron Slegers was pitching. Overall it was bad baseball, but I still remember the night fondly.

    Polanco quietly coming out of his....well, I won't call it a "slump", but you know what I mean. Smalley remarked that he had shortened up his swing a bit over the past week. Looks very quick. We are pretty spoiled seeing games like this frequently over the season. Just a drubbing, once again in double-digits. Absolutely need to take this series with a win today (Wednesday) and it was nice to see the bats warm up. Giolito has had a good year, should be an interesting game.

    Bingo. Since that rule's been in place, I've only seen the call overturned once. And it was like the lead story on ESPN that night. It's, frankly, a rule that umps and the league doesn't want to enforce (much like the "neighborhood" play). There's no way that gets overturned, IMO. The only way it'll be overturned in the future is if it's a bang-bang play where the runner was almost safe. On a play like that, where Sano was out by a good distance, it wouldn't be overturned no matter if he was blocking the plate or not.

    Yeah I agree with you. Last year appears to be an albatross, a career year for Gibson that erased a lot of skepticism. Perez experienced a blip this year at the beginning of the season as well, but he's also returned to average form. The Twins have certainly benefited from the spikes in productivity - not saying that Gibson's career year last season and Perez' first half were bad things. But, this team is going to have to take its lumps with these guys on the hill, and just basically cross their fingers and hope things go well.

    From the recap: "Arraez (3-for-5, 2B), Rosario (3-for-5), Polanco (2-for-5, 2B, HR), Cruz (2-for-5), Sano (2-for-5), Cave (2-for-4, 2B)" By those stats alone, I'd have guessed the Twins would have won 11-6. Twins offense continues to put up ridiculous numbers - guess they just couldn't push the runs across the plate last night. Gibson is nothing more than an innings-eater at this point. He's topped out as a Kevin Correia clone, and should be nothing more than a 4th starter on a rebuilding club at this point. I can see Gibson and Perez holding down the 4-5 spots in Detroit, Miami, or Baltimore next year. This starting rotation is just killing this team.

    What can you say? Every game gave us something to complain about, but in the end the positives outweighed the negatives and the outcome was in the Twins favor. A 5-1 week was just what the doctor ordered. The next 13 games are against the White Sox and Tigers. Time to make some hay.

    I have some feelings about that also. Let's just say I'm not a fan. Honestly though, it's not a hill I'm going to die on. I think people have to be able to give an inch sometimes. There are bigger atrocities in this world for me to worry about, living in Guatemala I see them every day. I will be moving back to the States (yay!) in less than 6 months, and I will be pretty damn happy to focus my energy on less serious social issues at that time

    I know people are gushing about the bullpen, but... Dyson, Rogers, and Romo all allowed two baserunners in each of their innings. Both Dyson and Rogers got themselves into situations where Texas had guys on 1st and 3rd. Romo walked and allowed a hit in the 9th. I am thrilled with the win, and it was nice to see the bullpen keep Texas off the scoreboard. But they simply survived, but they didn't come in and mow the Rangers down, not even close. Good job. Not great by any stretch of the imagination. A win tonight would be fantastic and ensure a winning week and road trip.

    Didn't Trevor May get one out (on 1 pitch) last week and get the win? It was pretty much the same scenario.

    I think this escalates - especially if Texas blows out the Twins one of these next 3 games. If the Rangers are up 15-4 or something, I wouldn't put it past a guy like Trevor May or something to zip one into the rib cage of a guy like Hunter Pence or Elvis Andrus. Kepler's the best all around player the Twins have. I think if a score gets out of hand, someone on Texas will pay before Sunday's over.

    I think swinging 3-0 is fine - unless you're up by 7 runs in the 9th inning (or so the rule goes). That said, as I mentioned, the Phillies dropped 6 runs in the 9th against the Cubs and beat them. In today's game, no lead is safe.

    Honestly man, what kind of BS is that? The Twins have been struggling, Cave has been struggling....what's he supposed to do in a 3-0 count? Take a strike? Why? The pitcher should have thrown strikes earlier in the count and he wouldn't be in that situation. Just moments before Cave's AB, Bryce Harper had just homered to complete a 6-run 9th inning comeback by the Phillies to beat the Cubs. With the Twins pitching staff, no lead is safe. I see nothing wrong with Jake padding his stats there, nor is there anything wrong with the Twins running up the score. That beaning of Kepler was really bush league.

    Yeah but he's also hitting .295 and if you recall he got the big 2RBI hit with 2-out and the bases loaded in that very same game. And he made a big defensive play on Tuesday. And in the Braves series he made a fantastic leaping catch. I realize it's Polanco's turn to be the fall guy, and everyone's going to take turns bashing him and discussing his weak points because we're angry about the loss. But let's not tar, feather, and run him out of town just yet, please.

    Runs given up by Twins pitching in the past 8 games: 12 11 7 6 1 7 5 6 Twins are somehow 3-5 during that stretch, but without some clutch hitting and lucky bounces they could easily be 0-8. This isn't a bad team. But they are playing like one. Every game it seems like you're watching the Orioles try and avoid blowing it. From Dyson to Rogers to now Romo, all of our "bullpen aces" are now letting us down. Starting pitching, forget about it....very bad.

    I think Perez was kind of playing with fire all night. Certainly wasn't a sharp outing and he didn't look dominant. That said, it's hard to rain on his parade when he pitched a quality start. I think we'd all be happy if the guy managed 5+ innings and gave up 2-ish runs. We don't need him to be spectacular, just serviceable. He was indeed serviceable last night, can't say otherwise.

    Heck yeah, man. That 1-2-3 inning looked really, really nice. And Romo has looked like a good pickup. Super thrilled to see those 2 guys finish off a tight, BIG game in the 8th and 9th.

    Agreed, but I think addressing "suck costs" is one of the hardest things for baseball FO's to do. This FO has dropped Parker, Morin, Allen, and others in what has looked like a good trend. However, expecting them to give up on Perez - even though it's as plain as day that they need to - is expecting a lot. They're stuck with that small-market thinking, and they don't want to burn service time (ie: Buxton last year, Gaterol this year) on young players. Therefore, they leave the team out to die on that hill with Perez. They're so distracted by the forest, they can't see tree right in front of them.

    BTW, Milwaukee and Texas are not going to roll over for the Twins. This is a dangerous week.

    I think the Twins seriously need to think about taking a page out of the Rays' playbook and start using the "Opener" strategy moving forward. Imagine going with Duffey in the 1st, Thorpe or Dubrovni-whats-his-name in the 2nd & 3rd, Perez for the 4-5-6 and see what you've got from there. At this point you have to get creative with this pitching staff. Because right now, 3/5 of this starting rotation is not giving the Twins any chance to win. Solution? Stop letting them start games.

    Yeah I'm guessing that'll definitely happen. Until then....I guess you just kinda do your best to hide the guy in the back of the 'pen. Mop-up guy, maybe there will be another 12-2 thumping and he can eat some innings, for example. At this point I can't see any reason to either start Perez, or put the guy in any type of pressure bullpen situation. Twins are really stuck with dead weight right now unfortunately, eating up a valuable roster spot while he's at it. Same goes for Schoop.

    With 2 outs, I have absolutely zero problems with Diaz sending Adrianza there. The only issue I have was that there was just 1 out. That said, you all can blame Diaz all you want. I personally blame yesterday's loss on Taylor Rogers. He's been great this year, and maybe he was over-worked, but if you give up 4 runs in 1/3 of an inning in a huge game, you failed. An absolutely dud of an effort by Rogers, who deservedly got the loss.

    BIG game for Gibby tonight! Huge. You gotta set the tone with a W tonight. Pizza Ranch For the Win: Gibby, you gotta go out there and give 3-4 scoreless innings to start this game. Give the offense time to get the lead. Pizza Pit For the Loss: Over his last six starts, Clevinger has a 1.69 ERA with 49 strikeouts in 37 1/3 innings. Yikes.

    Berrios gave up 9 earned runs in 5.2 innings....his ERA after that outing? 3.24. The guy's elite. Let 'em be. I'm shaking in my boots with Perez on the hill tonight. In the back of his head, he's got to see the writing on the wall with Smelzer lurking and Pineda coming back soon. He might just be pitching to save his spot in the rotation. The Twins will supplant veterans, as Arraez has clearly (somewhat quietly?) replaced Schoop in the lineup. Jonathan now only getting at-bats once the game got out of hand.
