  1. Happy for Brusdar, the guy's gone from thinking he was going to be playing at Target Field, Fenway, Target Field again, and now he'll be wearing Dodger blue. He's gotta be pumped. Maeda is a good get for sure, very excited for this 2020 team. Interested to see who else the Twins have thrown into the deal.
  2. MLB reporter Mark Feinsand says: "Latest on the Betts trade: per source, the Red Sox are focused on getting a deal done with the Dodgers above all else. The Twins appear to be out of the three-way deal, though a separate trade for Maeda remains in play."
  3. Unfortunate for Brusdar, regardless of how this works out. He's been unfairly portrayed as "damaged goods", which not only hurts his potential earnings but also hurts the Twins as his trade value has plummeted if this deal doesn't go through. I do know one thing: Brusdar will be VERY motivated, regardless of where he plays. Kid's gotta be ticked off and I don't blame him.
  4. If we add a low-level lottery ticket, I'd be okay with it - albeit grudgingly - but I don't think the Twins should have to pony up anything. It's amazing the backtracking the Sox GM has done, and how the media's run with the story about Brusdar being "damaged goods". As others have said here, not only do we lose Maeda but Brusdar's value is taking a huge hit and the Twins won't be able to get anything for him if he stays here.
  5. NBC Sports is now calling Brusdar "Damaged Goods" - there's no way Boston completes this trade as is with the rumors and PR swirling out there. The media influence has done too much damage at this point. @NBCSBoston Kenta, we hardly knew ye. My guess is that it's back to the drawing board for the Twins unfortunately. https://www.nbcsports.com/boston/red-sox/everyone-knew-brusdar-graterol-was-damaged-goods-everyone-except-red-sox-apparently
  6. It sounds like the Red Sox seem to just have a case of buyer's remorse. They had all of this information on Brusdar before the trade - they're just saying "on second thought, after reading all the blog posts for the past 24 hours, maybe we should get someone else too".
  7. Seems like you are just picking out the advanced stats and traditional stats you don't like, and ignoring the positives? I think this trade makes the Twins better in 2020. World Series here we come! The days of cultivating the farm for 10 years to build an 82-win team are over. The Twins are GOOD now. We've got prospects everywhere and we don't hesitate to deal them for high-end talent to fill holes. We win100 games per year. The money's oozing out of the Pohlads' pockets, we buy top free agents, and we steamroll small-market wannabes. Enjoy it, man!
  8. 100% with you, man. Rubbing your hands together and cackling while looking at an overflowing bag of prospects is fun when the team is BAD. And I understand that after many years, it's a hard habit to break for some. When your team's going for a World Series Championship and signs guys like Josh Donaldson, you have to refocus on the major league squad. Step away from the Pensacola Wahoos everyone, and look at the guys in Minneapolis for a change!
  9. Twins replaced Gibson/Perez with Maeda/Bailey. It cost them some pocket change and Brusdar. In my opinion I'm OK with that.
  10. "What about starting pitching?!", we asked. Well, this is how you bring it to Target Field. Wow. Twins are in win-now mode, no question. They had an opportunity to acquire an MLB starter by dealing a top prospect, and they did it. Maeda was 10-8 with a 4.04 ERA last year. He should slot in behind Berrios and Odorizzi perfectly. Good fit. Did the Twins give up too much? Time will tell.
  11. Any team that has Edwin Encarnacion on their roster worries me.
  12. The Twins are so damn lucky to have Berrios, and it's sad how many TD posters will just never accept the guy. La MaKina will go 15-8 with a 3.64 ERA and 200 strikeouts, and people here are going to keep blasting the guy and complaining about him. Odorizzi is going to have similar numbers and those same people will say that he's a "back end of the rotation guy". To some, none of these guys are any good until they can win a playoff game against the Yankees. That's just how it's gonna be. The Twins do need to start working with these young guys to find the next Berrios very soon, because Jose's going to sign a 120 Million free agent deal with one of the big market teams as soon as his Twins deal runs out. Here's hoping the Twins can develop their future #1 guy and in the first couple months of 2020. And here's hoping they don't fall too far behind Chicago or Cleveland while they're at it.
  13. I don't see the need to go out and pay for a 26th man when you have Cave, Wade, and Astudillo in the system. I think they could all start for some of the rebuilding teams in the league, frankly.
  14. This is a good point. The Twins are essentially in need of a "rental" pitcher who can be steady enough to eat innings from April into late May. Basically someone who can replicate Martin Perez' starts during the same period last year. The Twins are hoping Dobnak is one of those guys - who's the other? It would be a shame to see this team treading water at the .500 mark or below for the first 2 months waiting on Pineda and Hill. It would be pretty sad if they dug themselves a hole that they couldn't get out of, right out of the gate.
  15. Honestly I agree. I also don't see him as an "elite reliever" by any stretch. Last year was far and away his best MLB season....where he posted an ERA of almost 3.00. His career ERA is 4.49 and he's 30 years old. Is this what we call "elite" now? There are about 40-50 guys in the league that pitched as effectively as May did last year. He's good, he's serviceable, but it's not like he's ever come within sniffing distance of an All-Star berth. It's good that the Twins have May the team. But let's get real and stop pretending this guy is anywhere near the levels of guys like Josh Hader.
  16. He did well enough last year - at least in my opinion - that I'm not worried about Marwin's talent.
  17. One player using PEDs is completely different than an entire offense using video to determine pitch-selection. It's like robbing a 7-11 with a squirt gun vs. robbing the Federal Reserve with a tank. Anyone who's raving about PEDs to defend the Astros massive cheating conspiracy is completely off their rocker. The team should be banned from competition for 2 years, but that won't happen because it'll violate something on the Players' Union side. But without a doubt, the 2017 title should be vacated, period. At least take their title and those banners, it's absolutely shameful and a disgrace to the sport of baseball.
  18. How badly would it suck to have Donaldson blow out his knee in April? You can worry about future injuries for virtually every player in every sport.
  19. If they are going to use Graterol as a starter, then no, they don't need someone else. If the Twins are going to treat Graterol with kids gloves and use him as a mop-up guy, then yeah they should add someone else.
  20. If you find a good recipe, let me know. Right now I'm looking for some BBQ sauce to put on my hat that I'll be eating for breakfast.
  21. You're right, and you forgot to mention that it's not just the guys who got negatively affected. Marwin Gonzalez, for example, had a great year in 2017 and probably made a few million extra in free agency thanks to the Astros WS victory. Some guys sure did lose $$$ thanks to the Astros, but a select handful of guys made more. Very, very unfair.
  22. Say goodbye to Marwin for 1/3 of the season, then....eeeks.
  23. You can cheat, get caught, and then keep your title? What? Like the 1997 Final Four Gophers, they should have their post-season appearances and any titles eliminated and struck from the record. The 2017 Championship Astros banners (and possibly the 2018 Red Sox banners) should be taken down from the stadium and the titles should be vacated.
