  1. Wow, this looks fantastic, thanks for sharing! Bookmarked!
  2. Fun to watch Gaterol today! And great to see the Twins put up a 5-spot and have a pitcher in there who can protect the lead and get the job done. Big Mike Pineda, as has been said by just about everyone, is rising to the top of the rotation. Last seven starts, 5-0 with a 3.48 ERA. The Twins are in the home stretch and he is delivering.
  3. LOL, didn't read that. Although, there are places in Latin America that just take you back in time.....metaphorically, anyway.
  4. A Rays sweep while the Twins sweep the Tigers (keeping fingers crossed) would be so gigantic. Right now I'd even be happy if the Twins just won their next two games, regardless of what Cleveland does. Would love to see that lead grow to 6-7 as the Twins enter the next 1.5 weeks of the schedule.
  5. Dude I have a sinking feeling the Twins are going to break the record when you're "out-of-office"...crazy timing, eh? Then again, if you're in a country where you're not sure about the Internet access, I'm guessing you're hitting up the Caribbean or Mexico or something. And so we can't feel toooo sorry for you.
  6. A sweep plus Cleveland dropping 2-of-3 in Tampa would be huge at this point in the season. I'd hate to ride into Cleveland thinking that the Tribe could sweep the series and put the Twins back into the perilous WC chase. I don't think the Twins are out of the woods by any means. I know a flight to Cleveland is looming but I sure hope Rocco and the boys take these next few games as seriously as they've taken any all season.
  7. Jose Berrios with a quality start! Great news, right? "Nah, it's against the White Sox". Bullpen throws 3 shutout innings against same White Sox: "Bullpen is good now! Tyler Duffey is better than Aroldis Chapman, why isn't anyone talking about him!??!" Hmmmm. I think Berrios did fine. Might be a sign of improvement, dude got a much needed win and hopefully this is the start of him turning the corner. You have to be encouraged.
  8. Romo's been pretty good. Gotta admit that something about him throwing in those 80 MPH frisbees makes me very nervous. Can't argue with results though!
  9. I think playing Chicago and Detroit for 2 straight weeks might be giving us rose-colored glasses. I feel pretty good about Rogers, Romo, and Dyson. I know Duffey and May have turned a corner, but the thought of them entering a playoff game against Hou/NYY/Cle with runners on base in a close game makes me shiver. Don't get me wrong, I'm thrilled to see these numbers and I think things are improving. Thanks for sharing this cool report!
  10. I completely agree. Assuming that Larnach, Rooker, etc are going to put up Eddie Rosario-type numbers is delusional. About 30 out of 1000 highly touted prospects become regular every-day players. You have guys like Arraez who come out of nowhere and are great, then you have #1-rated farm system guys who simply can't put it together at the MLB level. Trading prospects might indeed be the way to go, depending on how this team does in the postseason (if they get there).
  11. Duffey didn't look that great last night, for what it's worth. He got the job done but he was not sharp and got out of the inning on a line drive shot. As for Marwin, here's Rocco's take: "It’s abdominal, I would call it abdominal, maybe possibly oblique area but he was moving around OK," Twins manager Rocco Baldelli said. "The tests came back as showing, I don’t know if it’s the best way to describe it, but something probably small. Not something that we would consider major but something that we’re going to have to look after and get checked out." Marwin said he got out of the game before it got worse, which seems like a smart move. Twins are likely going to have an all lefty outfield tonight against a lefty pitcher.
  12. Great insurance run c/o Polanco, Cruz and Rosario there at the end of the game BTW. Nice to see Eddie back in the lineup and coming through with a big hit.
  13. Yankee Stadium is an absolute joke and frankly I can't believe the league allows the richest team in baseball to play in a softball stadium. The dimensions are the definition of "red meat", playing to an obnoxious fan base. Coors Field has altitude issues but it's still a big league stadium, at its core. Yankee Stadium honestly needs to be reviewed and the fences need to be moved out to preserve the integrity of the game. Pop flies that wouldn't even make the warning track in any other MLB park are going out for 3-run bombs. Pathetic.
  14. I kind of feel that way also. I've always viewed bullpen guys as "failed starters" - even when I know that technically, that's not the truth anymore. But in May of 2018 Romero really put up some numbers - as a starter - that for me, are still hard to ignore. vs. Toronto: 5.2 IP, 4 H, 0 ER, 5K @ STL: 6 IP, 3 H, 0 ER, 9K @LAA: 5 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 6K @SEA: 7 IP, 5H, 2ER, 7K He had one disastrous outing (@KC) but aside from that, none of his "clunkers" looked especially terrible - or any worse than, say, a typical Martin Perez or Kyle Gibson outing. The Twins seemed, for some reason, to completely disregard a good portion of his track record as a starter because they WANTED him to be a good bullpen arm. Now here we are, looking at an empty rotation in 2020 and you have to wonder why they were so quick to give up on a guy who not only has great potential, but has proven at the big league level that he can perform as an SP.
  15. We have been hearing that for the past 10 years. Twins don't call up young prospects. Meanwhile, guys like Juan Soto and Ronald Acuna are 20 years old (barely) and have already been in the league almost 2 years and are two of the best offensive players in the NL. Twins and us fans consider people like Buxton (almost 26) to be our "young developing talent". It's pretty sad and shows some major philosophy differences between the Twins and other clubs. I don't like it, frankly.
  16. I think the reason this isn't fun is because the Twins once held such a huge lead. Twins were 11.5 games ahead and cruising. The lead is now 2 games, and the Twins are dropping series at home to Chicago and Detroit. They're on the brink of what would be a historic collapse. They had a chance to go get starting pitching help at the deadline and didn't do it. The pitching staff is giving up 8-9 runs per game regularly while Cleveland inches closer and wild card teams like Tampa and Oakland gain more ground. For the teams chasing the Twins, this is fun. For Twins fans, its nervewracking and frustrating.
  17. That's one way to look at it....but I think many people would enjoy being outside on a Friday night in downtown Minneapolis at a ballgame, rather than on a couch in Bismark, ND. Not knocking your living room, just saying sometimes there's more to it. I went to one game last year. Twins lost to KC and Aaron Slegers was pitching. Overall it was bad baseball, but I still remember the night fondly.
  18. Polanco quietly coming out of his....well, I won't call it a "slump", but you know what I mean. Smalley remarked that he had shortened up his swing a bit over the past week. Looks very quick. We are pretty spoiled seeing games like this frequently over the season. Just a drubbing, once again in double-digits. Absolutely need to take this series with a win today (Wednesday) and it was nice to see the bats warm up. Giolito has had a good year, should be an interesting game.
  19. Bingo. Since that rule's been in place, I've only seen the call overturned once. And it was like the lead story on ESPN that night. It's, frankly, a rule that umps and the league doesn't want to enforce (much like the "neighborhood" play). There's no way that gets overturned, IMO. The only way it'll be overturned in the future is if it's a bang-bang play where the runner was almost safe. On a play like that, where Sano was out by a good distance, it wouldn't be overturned no matter if he was blocking the plate or not.
  20. Yeah I agree with you. Last year appears to be an albatross, a career year for Gibson that erased a lot of skepticism. Perez experienced a blip this year at the beginning of the season as well, but he's also returned to average form. The Twins have certainly benefited from the spikes in productivity - not saying that Gibson's career year last season and Perez' first half were bad things. But, this team is going to have to take its lumps with these guys on the hill, and just basically cross their fingers and hope things go well.
  21. From the recap: "Arraez (3-for-5, 2B), Rosario (3-for-5), Polanco (2-for-5, 2B, HR), Cruz (2-for-5), Sano (2-for-5), Cave (2-for-4, 2B)" By those stats alone, I'd have guessed the Twins would have won 11-6. Twins offense continues to put up ridiculous numbers - guess they just couldn't push the runs across the plate last night. Gibson is nothing more than an innings-eater at this point. He's topped out as a Kevin Correia clone, and should be nothing more than a 4th starter on a rebuilding club at this point. I can see Gibson and Perez holding down the 4-5 spots in Detroit, Miami, or Baltimore next year. This starting rotation is just killing this team.
  22. What can you say? Every game gave us something to complain about, but in the end the positives outweighed the negatives and the outcome was in the Twins favor. A 5-1 week was just what the doctor ordered. The next 13 games are against the White Sox and Tigers. Time to make some hay.
  23. I have some feelings about that also. Let's just say I'm not a fan. Honestly though, it's not a hill I'm going to die on. I think people have to be able to give an inch sometimes. There are bigger atrocities in this world for me to worry about, living in Guatemala I see them every day. I will be moving back to the States (yay!) in less than 6 months, and I will be pretty damn happy to focus my energy on less serious social issues at that time
  24. I know people are gushing about the bullpen, but... Dyson, Rogers, and Romo all allowed two baserunners in each of their innings. Both Dyson and Rogers got themselves into situations where Texas had guys on 1st and 3rd. Romo walked and allowed a hit in the 9th. I am thrilled with the win, and it was nice to see the bullpen keep Texas off the scoreboard. But they simply survived, but they didn't come in and mow the Rangers down, not even close. Good job. Not great by any stretch of the imagination. A win tonight would be fantastic and ensure a winning week and road trip.
