Strange to grab a 2-run lead late, only for Rocco to send out the wild Romero followed by the ineffective Gibson to try and close it out. Almost couldn't have picked two worse arms if you tried. Gibby's out of gas and I hope the Twins can keep him off the field as long as possible. Sure hope the Twins take care of business against Chicago. These games aren't gimmes.

Huge win. Huge sigh of relief. Polanco's game has been great lately. Nice way to cobble together a bunch of zeros with all the pitchers. Give credit where it's due: Rocco did a nice job managing this bullpen game. Would be a heckuva deal if the Twins swept the DH today. Why not?

Front Page: The Twins Need Early Season Eddie
bighat replied to Parker Hageman's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
And this is par for the course for Rosario. I remember last season starting hot - in both 2018 and '19 he was one of the final candidates for All-Star recognition. His second half numbers tend to be very pedestrian. That said, he can still do damage if he gets a hold of one. Sure would be nice to see the guy launch a few into the stands in Cleveland this weekend. -
Shane Bieber is pitching Sunday, he's going to get Cy Young consideration and is arguably Cleveland's best pitcher.

I hate to say it, but I see the Twins getting swept in Cleveland. I have no idea how this team is going to win a game against a competitive team with the lineups they keep sending out there. Someone mentioned yesterday that the Twins lineup looks worse than KC's and Chicago's these days, it's hard to argue. Nice to see Nelson Cruz come back to life. Guess that's a positive to hang on to.

Gotta agree with you. I can understanding resting guys for "precautionary reasons" in July, maybe giving some of the regulars a few days off. But the Twins can't hit right now. Can't score runs. Take away a few clutch Garver home runs and the Twins offense can barely scratch together 2 runs per game over the past 2 weeks! If Kepler, Sano, Gonzalez, and Cron can physically play right now, they should be in the lineup. Cleveland has won 4 straight. They have 3 with the Twins this weekend, if they sweep (which they very well could considering both Bieber and Clevenger are going in that series), the Twins will be in a tie for 1st place on Monday morning. And Oakland and Tampa are also ahead of Cleveland in the Wild Card. Both of those team by next Tuesday and could very well miss the playoffs entirely.

Yesterday, Francisco Lindor became just the 2nd shortstop to hit 30 HR in 3 straight seasons. Francisco Lindor is the same age as Buxton. The sooner Twins fans take off their rose-colored glasses when looking at Buxton, the better. Let's face it: he's a nice defensive player with good speed. He's a below-average hitter (just look at the stats) and he can't stay on the field. If we get a couple average years out of Byron Buxton the next couple seasons, we should be happy with that. He'll never live up to the hype, he'll never become the perennial All-Star we hoped he'd be. And we should have known all of that by 2018. Buxton is my favorite Twin when he's out there! He's a great guy, fun to watch, and we all love the guy to death. But let's get real: He's not a core player. He's never going to be anything more than a complimentary piece to this Twins baseball team.

You keep saying this like wins against KC and Detroit are automatic.

Forgive me for feeling negatively about this loss. But if you take away Mitch Garver's big home run yesterday, this team is averaging 2 runs per game over the past week. How they got away with winning 3-of-6 against Boston and Cleveland is beyond me. The Twins clearly can't compete head-to-head with Cleveland at this time and I wouldn't be shocked to see them swept next weekend. And with a hot Washington team scrapping for their playoff lives, the Twins are looking at a daunting week ahead. The offense looks as dismal and absent as it has all year, tank looks like its running on empty, with no help in sight.

Cruz with a sore wrist. Buxton can't swing a bat. Cave hurt. Gonzalez has been out so long he's been forgotten. Sano's back in a strikeout groove. This team has scored 2 runs the past 3 games, can't push runs across the board and is looking to guys like Schoop and Cron to somehow carry them across the finish line. Nathan Eovaldi and his 5.77 ERA dominated the Twins, as did Eduardo Rodriguez and his 3.87 ERA. Adam Plutko lugs his very average 4.44 ERA into last night's game, and the same thing happens. I have no problems with the Gaterol stuff. This game should have been won much earlier and the offense deserves 100% of the blame and needs a shot in the arm. This race isn't over and the Indians could very will win the remaining 5 games against the Twins at this rate.

Here's hoping Hildy gets his career back on track. Here's hoping he can pitch in a few low-leverage situations this year to get some confidence back as well. Here's also hoping the Twins wait until 2020 Spring Training to even consider letting Hildy contribute to this team in a serious way.

White Sox up on Cleveland 6-1 in the 7th inning. How sweet it would be to waltz into tonight's game seeing that big "L" on the scoreboard from the Indians already booked.

Absolute overreaction. He's in a slump. The only guys we have are Big Mike and Odorizzi. The Twins are going to need Berrios in the playoffs (if they make the playoffs) and you'll be watching him start a game if you're lucky.

Front Page: Twins Need Rosario to Rein it In
bighat replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Don't get me wrong, I understand the Twins may have to deal some of their pieces to acquire pitching. Not sure Eddie's going to get the Twins much, but that remains to be seen. I just don't get the hate and vitriol towards one of the better Twins players, who seems to be liked by his teammates and is having a good year. I can see how it's annoying to watch him swing at bad balls, but every player has his quirks. I can see if the Twins had lost 10 of 12 games and Eddie was 0-29 during that stretch or something. But that's not the case. -

Eddie Rosario's batting .281 with 27 homers and 92 RBI. The Twins are in 1st place by 6.5 games on September 4th. There is literally nothing to complain about, so it's "hate on Eddie" week? I know that in this day in age, we all need our daily blog posts to provoke some controversy and conversation. But c'mon man. Eddie's a free swinger. Been that way since he hit a HR in his first MLB at bat many years ago. He's had some huge hits for this team. He's carried this team on his back for long periods of time. Yes, Eddie is going to swing at some bad pitches. So what. Let the guy play his game. -

Wow, this looks fantastic, thanks for sharing! Bookmarked! -
Fun to watch Gaterol today! And great to see the Twins put up a 5-spot and have a pitcher in there who can protect the lead and get the job done. Big Mike Pineda, as has been said by just about everyone, is rising to the top of the rotation. Last seven starts, 5-0 with a 3.48 ERA. The Twins are in the home stretch and he is delivering.

A Rays sweep while the Twins sweep the Tigers (keeping fingers crossed) would be so gigantic. Right now I'd even be happy if the Twins just won their next two games, regardless of what Cleveland does. Would love to see that lead grow to 6-7 as the Twins enter the next 1.5 weeks of the schedule.

Dude I have a sinking feeling the Twins are going to break the record when you're "out-of-office"...crazy timing, eh? Then again, if you're in a country where you're not sure about the Internet access, I'm guessing you're hitting up the Caribbean or Mexico or something. And so we can't feel toooo sorry for you.

Front Page: Series Preview: Dead Team In The Auto Town
bighat replied to Matt Braun's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
A sweep plus Cleveland dropping 2-of-3 in Tampa would be huge at this point in the season. I'd hate to ride into Cleveland thinking that the Tribe could sweep the series and put the Twins back into the perilous WC chase. I don't think the Twins are out of the woods by any means. I know a flight to Cleveland is looming but I sure hope Rocco and the boys take these next few games as seriously as they've taken any all season. -
Jose Berrios with a quality start! Great news, right? "Nah, it's against the White Sox". Bullpen throws 3 shutout innings against same White Sox: "Bullpen is good now! Tyler Duffey is better than Aroldis Chapman, why isn't anyone talking about him!??!" Hmmmm. I think Berrios did fine. Might be a sign of improvement, dude got a much needed win and hopefully this is the start of him turning the corner. You have to be encouraged.
