    I agree. Seems like we have about four articles a week on this site asking "Should we move Sano/Kepler/Garver/Astudillo to first base?" I don't think any of those guys should go to first, at least not yet. It's a challenging position in its own right. How about we just put a first baseman at first?

    The best example of Eddie hate I've seen this week was when someone commented "The only thing Eddie did was hit a meaningless homer in the 8th inning of Game 3 against the Yankees". It was hilarious to me because if Arraez had hit that HR, you just know that poster would have said "Arraez, wow, what heart and grit, he's the only Twin who is trying to win this ball game. RESPECT." I think some people are turned off at Eddie's personality, and frankly can't get past it.

    Dude at least he got us on the board. Arraez hits that HR and you'd call him "the one guy with guts on this team who is still trying". I know Eddie has his faults, but this Eddie-hating is ridiculous.

    Thanks for sharing the details on this award - great to hear from some of the lesser-touted prospects. Just by reading this interview, you can tell Contreras is a hard worker and pretty darn talented in his own right. I'll be checking in on this guy's stats next year. Congrats to him and nice to see the Twins system winning awards.

    A guy who can win 14 games and pitch to a sub-4.00 FIP, while striking out almost a batter per inning AND log 200 innings in the AMERICAN LEAGUE is a very, very good pitcher. That's a horse. Justin Verlander's don't grow on trees. Even the Astros and their mighty rotation is on the brink of elimination. How are the Tampa Bay Rays doing it? By sending out Charlie Morton (great free agent pickup), Blake Snell, Ryan Yarbrough and Tyler Glasnow - don't know where the last two guys came from, but it was certainly out of nowhere! And some of them are following "openers" all year. I think the Twins need to get creative and start using the Kevin Cash blueprint. Spend some money on decent middle relievers next year and use them as openers.

    I'd love to see a list of free agent starters that will be on the market. I know some of the big names - admittedly I haven't paged through the entire 3 pages of this thread to see if someone's posted them.

    Agree with the Kepler 2nd-guess and I posted something about it earlier as well. Game 1 of the ALDS in Yankee Stadium against James Paxon isn't the place to get your first at-bat in over a month. Ridiculous. Kepler should have played during the KC series and if he wasn't good enough to go, he should not have been on the playoff roster. Astudillo could have taken his spot. Waving the white flag in Game 1, in hindsight, looks absolutely terrible. Pulling Berrios. Then having Gibson on the playoff roster and then using him as an innings-eater in a 3-run game still has me scratching my head. Overall it's easy to be a Monday Morning QB. And sure, there were some questionable decisions from the lineup standpoint. But this team lost this series because the players got out-pitched and out-hit. The team faltered under pressure, looked as bad as they did all season. Hard to blame the terrible play of just about everyone on Rocco Baldelli. This embarrassing series loss is on the players, in my opinion.

    I picked this out of your rant because I agree with you. Well, I won't be "done" but I certainly think Graterol should be seen as a potential starter for this team. Sure hope the Twins brass agrees. We need a great player to come alive and spark this team. Right now we have lots of decent guys, but not a truly transcending player (aka: Acuna, Lindor, Scherzer, Bellinger, Verlander, etc). Buxton was supposed to be that guy, but he's not, and the Twins can't make the next step without a true winner on this team.

    I did turn it off then, and just watched via MLB GameCast while browsing YouTube videos of my favorite comedians. It was too painful to watch and it just seemed like I was punishing myself for no reason. I've never felt worse about watching this team all season. Pretty sad that so many of us literally could not watch this game due to depression/anxiety/frustration.

    I totally understand why so many fans feel just DONE with this team right now. I felt super ticked off last night - when they had the bases loaded and nobody out, didn't score...it was just sickening. That said - and I'm just speaking for myself - this sweep doesn't take away the fun I had this summer watching this team. There were some special moments. I refuse to let last night's sweep tarnish those fun moments we all had watching and commenting here on the game threads together. Watching the Twins bash another opponent 14-5 or whatever. Watching Luis Arraez come out of nowhere to become a special player.Seeing Miguel Sano click in the second half of the season. Mitch Garver's emergence.Taylor Rogers turning into an elite reliever, mowing teams down.Nelson Cruz and those 3-homer games. That said, I'm not sure I'm even sure I have the stomach to summon hope again. This Twins team looked absolutely out-classed and out-matched by superior talent and coaching. It wasn't even close. Was this Yankees-Twins? Because it looked like Yankees-Orioles. Being exposed as frauds on the national stage was frankly embarrassing. The Twins didn't look like one pitcher away from competing. They looked wayyyy farther away than that. Let's just hope it doesn't take this team 8 more years to even reach the playoffs again. The bad taste from this series won't go away for many fans until we make it right, advance in the playoffs. Pronto.

    Looking at some comments here, I almost wonder if many Twins fans would have preferred an 82-82 season and missing the playoffs over a 101 win season and getting swept by the Yanks in embarrassing fashion? I'm not being sarcastic and don't judge anyone's personal opinion. It's kinda like the prettiest girl at school accepting your invite to the prom (yay!) only to dump you immediately after the night is over (embarrassing!). Would you rather have just not gone to the dance at all? Or does the experience build character? Of course....from a fan's perspective, we don't need any more "character building experiences". We've had plenty of those moments and it's been a long time since anything went our way. For the record, I'd prefer to make the playoffs and get swept rather than finish in the doldrums.

    Thing is though - by the time Duffey was brought in (both games) it was almost like the game had already spun out of control and was out of reach. Bringing in Rogers with the bases loaded and nobody out, in the 3rd inning, already down 2-0....is that really the best use of Rogers? Even a solid outing by Rogers in that situation would still leave the Twins down 3-0 or 4-0 (as opposed to 7-0). So now you're down 4-0 and if you somehow come back to tie or take the lead, Rogers isn't there and you're watching Trevor May come in for 2 innings late in Yankee Stadium to close the door. Does that end well? Chances are it doesn't. We knew pitching would be a problem. Everyone did. The Twins have been winning games with final scores of 9-7 all year long. For the Twins to have any chance of winning the series (let alone the game) the offense is going to have to put up at least 8 runs. The offense scored 4 and 2 runs, respectively. There's simply no way this team can win games without more runs that that. Regardless of whether or not Rogers or Odorizzi were in the game or not. The offense needs to score a bunch of runs. Period. Fair or not, it's on them to win this game and this series. Because the pitching staff is a lost cause, regardless of how they are managed.

    Bingo. Every baseball fan outside of New York City has been pulling for the Twins to be this year's story. This was the equivalent to the dreaded 5 seed vs. 12 seed matchup in the NCAA tournament. Everyone - not just Twins fans - wanted to see Minnesota stick it to the Yankees. This was the upset everyone wanted to see happen. Even New York media outlets were saying this would be a knock-down, drag-out series. The Twins have disappointed their own fans terribly. They've also drawn facepalms and eye rolls from baseball fans all over the country. This has truly been an embarrassment on a national stage. If the Twins get swept, they should be ashamed of themselves and rightfully so.

    Serious question: have we all given up on this team already? There's still hope the Twins can nab a game at home on Monday, you know. Oh yeah, these first two games have been a gut punch. Couldn't have gone worse, really. Frustrating. But they just need to win 3 straight. One game at a time. If they can take a game on Monday, this series becomes interesting again. But remember that double-header sweep in Cleveland? We need that mojo back. Is it too late?

    This is what we all said the last time the Twins got crushed by the Yankees in the playoffs. And the time before that also. If you haven't seen the movie before, here's what happens next: we miss the playoffs for 7-8 straight years and the nightmare repeats a generation later. It's not about being nice or mean. None of these players are from Minnesota, it's not a cultural war between the Midwest and the East Coast. It's simply one team having resources and spending money vs. another team that doesn't have as much resources and doesn't spend as much money. It's the Waldorf Astoria vs. Extended Stay America.

    Twins were just hoping to steal one last night, in my opinion. They played it safe with Berrios, he'll be rested by Game 4 if we need him then. By the time Litell and Stashak faltered, the Twins threw in the towel and let Gibby take more damage. Last night's game didn't matter to the Twins as much as it did the Yankees. Tonight's game will have a much different feel from a managerial perspective, I think. It's gonna be Romo, Rogers, in tight spots, no matter what part of the game the Twins are in. Remember, Yanks burned some bullpen arms too last night.

    CJ Cron should have caught the double play relay. He also struck out on a 3-2 pitch that bounced about 10 feet in front of the plate. Cron, Litell, Stashak and of course Gibson just can't or aren't prepared to compete on this stage. Hope we don't see any of them tonight. Tough loss but you gotta have some faith that this team can bounce back. The Nationals were able to turn to Max Scherzer to even up the series on the road against LA. Alas, the Twins' version of a stopper is Randy Dobnak... The disparity in starting pitching between the Twins and other playoff teams is frightful.

    Lots of talk about Arraez - hey, it's his thread after all! But this injury discussion reminds me: how's Kep doing? Sure hope he can adjust back to MLB speed immediately, the Twins will need him to be ready to hit.

    Any word on whether or not the Twins can get Adrianza ready by the start of the playoffs? His return could be big for this team. Would rather see Adrianza than Schoop as the primary starter at 2B in this series, if indeed Arraez is confirmed out.
