    Might as well list Royce Lewis as a possible reserve shortstop because he sure hasn't looked like a starting third baseman. I know he still has this toolsy-star tag attached to him, and I want him to succeed, but I don't think he's going to turn into a good MLB hitter. His at-bats aren't really good, and haven't been for awhile.

    Our 3rd base coach should have been on top of it too. A Gardy meltdown could have ensued. Watching that replay STILL pisses me off!

    I had to look up whether or not Colabello was in the starting lineup for opening day 2014. Here is the opening day lineup: Brian Dozier - 2B Kurt Suzuki - C Joe Mauer - 1B Josh Willingham - LF Chris Colabello - DH Trevor Plouffe - 3B Oswaldo Arcia - RF Aaron Hicks - CF Pedro Florimon - SS and Rickey Nolasco on the mound. Twins lost 5-3 in Chicago. I think the Seinfeld image from above applies.

    I think Joe Ryan striking out 230 batters has the best chance of occurring. The others, not so much.

    It's been the Dodger's strategy for a few years now, pay em to keep em. Backfires occasionally, but not a bad strategy. Now watch, when the Twin's want to pass him through waivers, some team will get a catcher injury and scoop him up. Who is the Twins 4th catcher, Noah Cardenas?

    I thought the Twins have been developing 3-4 innings guys for years.

    If you're thinking one inning at a time after your starter then sure, but not if your "next up" guys can give you 3-4 innings.

    Over the years I've considered various "pitching schemes" for managing innings and workloads, etc. The wild card in these constructs is always the "super ace" like Skubal and Skenes who you want on the mound as much as possible short of their arms falling off, hello Sandy Koufax. But over the years your SuperAce workload expectation has gone from 300 innings, to 250 innings to 200 innings in our current environment. Over the last 3 years only 12 pitchers have reached the 200 inning plateau. So which is more impactful to team wins, a Skubal who starts 33-34 times in a 5-man rotation and pitches 200 innings, or a Skubal who starts 40-41 games in a 4-man rotation and pitches 200 innings? If you don't have a SuperAce (or 2) then you worry less about maximizing your main guys. It's a good discussion and timely especially today with some teams talking a 6-man rotation. I think the 4-man rotation deserves some serious consideration.

    You're probably right. You could expand the roster to 30 and they would add all pitchers.

    And that. You think teams would be more likely to carry another pitcher rather than a position player if rosters were expanded to 27?

    Every team has decisions to make as they construct their roster for opening day and plan for the season. It just seems the Twins have unnecessarily boxed themselves in this winter with the current roster construction. Used to be that teams carried 10 pitchers, now they carry 13. MLB expanded the roster from 25 to 26 but that still leaves teams crunched for positional players. I think they should have expanded the rosters to 27 and hope they do unless starting pitchers go back to throwing more complete games, which I don't see happening. The fact that we're considering roster contortions to fit in a 30 year old backup catcher with a career OPS+ of 46 when even playing .500 ball seems like a small miracle just blows my mind.

    You would think they could find one guy that can't do all the things this group can't.

    I think Bruce Meyer the new director of the Player's Union has and will be the lead negotiator so not much change there really. I know the owners want a salary cap but I don't think they are married to the idea enough to prevent or seriously delay the 2027 baseball season.

    I think there will be a new bargaining agreement in place without a lockout. I think (and hope) the owners learned from the last stoppage of play the damage it does to the sport (revenue). I think the Caratini signing gives the Twins options; but considering that Jeffers is a Boras client I pretty much expect Jeffers to get traded at the trade deadline this year.

    Bradley looked good, Rojas looked really good, and Orze was lights out in his inning. Emma Rodriguez is an exciting ball player.
