  1. I don't understand the logic in trading Santana unless it is just one move in a series of moves. and the option year shouldn't matter, except that the Twins should hope he is good enough to pitch 200 innings and we get a decent pitcher for 14 million the following year which I guarantee we couldn't get back on the open market. Cobb has never pitched 200 innings and Lynn twice (202,204)
  2. I believe the team thinks that they can't run him out there 15 out of 20 games because he will be exposed. I see it kind of like Punto back in the day, they put him in situations that he had a chance to succeed, and when he had to play extended periods he showed the real Punto. IMO he isn't a full-time major leaguer player. Way too many holes in his swing.
  3. I said if they can be used for pitching that is what they should do. But there isn't 21 years of control, only Kepler has made the majors and Gordon and Romero are 50/50 of making the majors and being anything more than fillers. The money could be an issue, but aren't we going to have that problem with Sano, Berrios and Buxton?
  4. Our those 4 players really the future of the Twins? Sure if they all have careers we hope we would have way over paid, but as of now only Kepler has really proved anything and Kirillkoff is years off. Romero and Gordon are the lottery tickets. But I would be willing to take that chance. Unless of course we can use some of them for a starting pitcher.
  5. Hey we can compete with those 4 (in taxes that is)
  6. I think that is way too much to pay for Iglesias (Rooker straight up might be too much), and no where near what Cobb is going to get. I do like the extensions to Berrios and Buxton.
  7. I would hope the Twins would do that without thinking. The only for sure in that trade is Kepler. I don't think the Marlins would do that deal, but I would offer it to them to see how close it is.
  8. I don't like going into next season expecting May can give us anything, I hope he does but I am not expecting much, so replace him with Gibson and I think that is enough of a starting staff for us to contend for a wild card spot. My real hope is that the front office is looking at the 2019 40 man roster and seeing that keeping all of our prospects and the major league team isn't option, and they are going though the prospects to see which ones they want to keep and which ones they can trade for a controller starter. (which IMO is why they are looking at the Reds closer and others similar. )
  9. Vargas and Park have no place on the twins IMO. Park is will be 32 next year and Vargas is what he is (not a good ball player, but does have occasional power) Rooker seems more like a 19 candidate to me. Agree with everything else you said. If for some reason they don't think Sano is going to be able to play 3B for 120+ games next year, I wouldn't mind Frazier for the right price. He strikes out too much but I like the walks and he is only a few months older than Park.
  10. My two cents on the topic. There is really only one FA pitcher I want this year. Davish There are a couple I am OK with but not at the expected price (18 million give or take). Cobb and Lynn There are a couple I wouldn't mind spending just enough on, that if they suck they can be cut or demoted ASAP. So I am willing to bite the bullet and go all in on a trade. Just about any of the Met's starters, Cole, and Archer. I am willing to give up 3/4 prospects to get them, Basically saying you can choose any two of our top 5. and two more from 10 - 20, and somebody below 30.
  11. Everybody on the roster excluding Buxton and Berrios should be available for the right deal. I just don't seeing trading Dozier unless it makes next year's team better, because IMO I don't see anybody really close to replacing him. Fingers are crossed that Gordon can do it soon, but him tailing in the second half threw big red flags for me.
  12. Not to argue but I say we have quite a bit of depth, just not enough quality. Gibson, Romero, Jorge, Mejia, Santana, Enns, Berrios, Slegers, Gonzo, Hughes, Turley, May
  13. I agree those two pitchers will get at least a 4 year deal close to 80 million. My thoughts were it would take the prospect(s) we get for Santana plus some we have or just the ones we have, but that wouldn't drain our prospects completely because we would have more after the trade then before. I am not worried about getting better pitchers than Cleveland I am more worried about getting pitchers that give us a better chance against other teams in the playoffs. For example DeGrom/Archer and Berrios give us a chance against anybody in a 7 game series or 1 game with our offense.
  14. How about really thinking outside the box, and trading Santana for a prospect(s) and then turning around and trading prospects for a Archer or DeGrom? They way I see it now is that we don't have any great prospects close to being ready we do have a bunch of good prospects and not a lot of room for them, so turn some of quantity for quality.
  15. are Gonzo and Romero going to be top 50 prospects?
  16. I also like the outside the box thinking but what are we expecting for Santana? If Romero or Gonzo where on another team , would you trade Santana for one of them, or would you need more? I just don't see the value of trading Santana in the offseason.
  17. and one failed drug test from missing a whole year correct?
  18. Gibson, Stewart and Javier aren't getting DeGrom, or anybody else on the Mets. If you want DeGrom and I do, it starts with Romero or Gonzo, plus Gordon and probably Kepler or Rosario, or a couple of prospects with huge upside and maybe an injury history. The only team that I see that would want Gibson in a trade is St. Louis, because they will turn him around and magically become a #2. If I am GM, I am calling the Mets and asking about their starters and what it would take get any of them. (Harvey, DeGrom, Martz, Syndergaard, Lugo, Wheeler, etc..
  19. My worry with signing somebody like Cobb for 60+ million is that if he doesn't live up to expectations it could set the club back a few years because its dead money. That's why I would rather make a splash with a trade. (De Grom or Archer) But I am more willing to trade prospects than most.
  20. I have seen Cobb's market value is closer to 18 million a year than 12. from the link in the other thread. http://www.spotrac.com/mlb/free-agents/starting-pitcher/
  21. I think Rogers deserves a spot.
  22. My expectations for Romero, Gonsalves and May is very low for next year. I would expect they get a few starts with an ERA around 5, much higher for the next year
  23. How about Kepler, Gordon, Romero and a couple of other prospects? Or Sano, Kepler, and any starting minor leaguer starting pitcher?
  24. Wow, if you have a 14 man bullpen, you don't get crazy over use of just a few.
  25. The only reason I can see, would be you believe he can do this for another 3 years, and you add two to the end of this contract for an amount way lower than market value, maybe 3 with a club option. If he does this next year and he is a FA, somebody will give him more than we are willing or should pay. Thinking Hunter back in the day)
