  1. I still believe that teams that rely heavily on their minor league system to develop players SHOULD NOT be drafting high school players in the upper level draft picks. There is a weeding out process that takes place in college, in addition to the additional physical and mental maturity. With the limited amount of time to develop talent due to the restrictions of either losing them through the rule 5 draft or losing them as minor league free agents, let alone the necessity of keeping the pipeline of talent to the majors consistently primed, a draft focus on college players just makes sense.
  2. Unfortunately, the massive contract it took to keep him coupled with his concussion issues moved him off of the position at which the contract held value to a more marginal position. The contract coupled with the stinginess of ownership was never able to surround Mauer with sufficient talent to create a contender.
  3. The way Magill ended the 9th, no way he should have been out there to begin the 10th. Continued poor bullpen management.
  4. What would be the ERA's of the starters if you adjusted the earned runs by subtracting all of the inherited runners that were allowed to score by our relief corps? Hence, the real problem, which is actually two fold. The starters are throwing too many pitches and not getting deep enough into games. This puts more pressure on the bullpen on a night after night after night basis. Instead of just having to cover innings 8 & 9, the bullpen is having to cover innings 6, 7, 8, 9. In some cases the bullpen is used in inning #5. Not only were the 2018 veteran additions to the bullpen an absolute failure; once the team moved on from that and started to use some of the "kids" they were found to be either mentally or ability unable to step up. The biggest problem seems to be between their ears. Either that, or (as in the case with Alex Pressly) the Manager, Pitching Coach, Bullpen Coach and assorted catchers have no clue as to how to properly utilize their bullpen resources.
  5. 11 games remaining. 11 games under .500. Twins need to run the table.
  6. Unfortunately, unless his bat comes alive and/or he begins to hit LHP, I don't see a long term future on the Twins for Max Kepler.
  7. Due to his delivery, Hildenberger should never face a LH batter.
  8. The entire Twins organization (Manager, Coaches, Catchers) NEVER figured out HOW to use Pressly. Just look back at how his pitches were called when he was with the Twins and how his pitches are being called in Houston. In Minnesota, was it that he shook off the catchers or that he didn't shake them off when he should have?
  9. Kennys Vargas? Max Kepler?
  10. Where are the RH power bats? The LHB friendly Metrodome is long gone and the current stadium is where LH power goes to die. Management has known about this ever since groundbreaking on the new stadium. SO WHERE ARE THE RH POWER BATS?
  11. If he values his long term mental health, he will take an inventory of his concussions and weigh that against ANY career benefit to be obtained over the next couple of years, and retire. Should he decide to try and come back: 1 year + 2 option years @ $20M.
  12. Why limit it to an inning? Go ahead and go through the order once, then go on to the next pitcher,
  13. More interesting was the way that Houston used Pressly. He used the fastball to set up the slider and curve. He threw strikes, throwing 12 pitches and 9 of them strikes. HE NEVER THREW A CHANGE. Too bad the Twins: Manager, Pitching Coach, Bullpen Coach and assorted catchers could NEVER figure out how to properly use him. Check his stats since going over to Houston.
  14. I think we are seeing the cumulative effect of concussions on Joe. He is "off" this year because of not being fully recovered from "Concussion Symptoms" earlier this year. He accomplishes nothing by playing beyond this year: no World Series, mo meaningful records, he's not a clubhouse leader, and doesn't need the money - nor the humbling from taking a huge pay cut. If he values his long term health and his family, he should just walk away and let the Twins move on without him.
  15. If Morrison and/or his agent KNEW Something was wrong with his health (his hip) at the time the contract was signed, then they were not negotiating in good faith and were not fully disclosing Morrison's physical condition to the Twins organization. If that is the case, there should be some Legal ramifications the Team could take against the player and his representation to recover some of the financial considerations of the contract. Or perhaps the 2nd year option fee could be ELIMINATED.
  16. So what did the team know and when did they know it? May just as well DL'd him for the entire year.
  17. Have him ONLY face RH batters, no switch hitters who would bat LH and no pure LH batters unless the bases are empty and the game is not on the line.
  18. Would it be worth it to take on Martin Prado and Starlin Castro if it also included Realmutto? What/who would it take?
  19. If not for the failure of both Rogers and Moya to not allow any inherited runners to score, only 2 runs would have been scored by Detroit.
  20. HELLO = Yes, I DO KNOW they are switch hitters. From which side do they bat when a RHP is on the mound? If a LHP was used instead of Hildy, both those switch hitters would have been turned around.
  21. Considering LOMO performance this year would anyone be surprised if it were to come out that his hip has been bothering him all year? If that were to be the case, how much did the team know and when did they know it?
  22. Not EVERY trade is made projecting the player traded for as being a future major leaguer. Keep in mind that there is a full slate of minor league teams that need to be staffed with players to keep the local fans interested enough to support a minor league team. Most professional baseball players never sniff the Majors.
  23. Neither Molitor, Everyday Eddie or the catchers who called pitches for him could quite figure out how to correctly use Pressly. Too many inherited runners scored and too many hits and walks given up with runners on base for him. He needed to be only used to start an inning. Don't like the Dozier trade, should have waited until 8/31 or just kept him. Just wonder if he had begun to shoot off his mouth - so it may have been addition by subtraction. As the Dodgers passed on Dozier to get Forsythe, I would have let them choke on him.
  24. Unless Joe has pissed away his earnings, there is no reason for him to continue playing. In the interest of his long term health, he needs to retire. In the Twins plans for 2019 the most important question is: "Who's on First?"
