  1. Molitor has not figured out how to properly use Pressly. He CANNOT be brought in with runners on base because he has over his time with the Twins consistently permitted inherited runners to score.Somehow, between Molitor, Pitching Coach, and Bullpen Coach there is a total lack of understanding of who to use and when to use them. What happened to Castro's catching ability making our pitchers better??
  2. Don't panic. Remember that there are a couple of Rule 5 players that were lost by the Twins who may end up being offered back as well as having the Kinley slot available for another player who is either waived or DFA. Wait until the dust clears before passing judgement.
  3. Also needing to be mentioned are the trend of: trading away bloated long term contracts for prospects and a bad short term contract (Giants - Rays) as well as trading away a desirable prospect along with a bad contract to clear it from a team's books (Brandon Moss), or bad contract for bad contract (Matt Kemp).. From a team standpoint, teams need to stop drafting HS players. They: take too much time to develop, cost more to develop and don't go through the 4 year shaking out process that graduating college seniors do. They all too quickly reach the decision point of having to be protected on the 40 man roster from the Rule 5 draft and/or reaching minor league free agency. For Mr Clark, it's high time to challenge the obsolete, random player numbers associated with the game and to update them for what makes sense in today's environment. Why is it still a 25 man roster? It should be 28. Why is it a 40 man roster? It should be 45 - or at the very least, low revenue teams should be favored with a higher roster limit as they are more reliant on their farm system. Teams should not be put in the position of "giving away" a player of promise/value on waivers, just because the team needs to add a player to the 40 man roster. These are antiquated, random number limits that are no longer of relevance in today's game..
  4. Hmmmm... Morrison bats left, plays First and has a 2019 option. Mauer's contract is up in 2018. The Twins have leverage in their beyond 2018 contract talks with "play in MN or play nowhere" Mauer. It will be interesting to see how each of these players perform in 2018.
  5. If you can't afford the price for Archer (certainly take back Span and possibly even Brad Miller to fold in the savings of roster dollars into the trade price), just sign Garcia. It adds another lefty to the rotation as well as adding value. If a starter prospect blossoms by July, he will have value at the trade deadline. Again, always good to have depth in the event of injuries or backsliding performances and Garcia could always slide into the role of spot starter/long relief/bullpen lefty.
  6. The Twins being willing to take on the last year of Span's contract would give them a leg up on other trading partners interested in either Archer or Odorizzi and also lower the cost to the Twins to acquire either one in terms of players.
  7. Maybe he just needs some Ricky Vaughn eyeglasses???
  8. WOW. Flavine moves continue to unimpress. To take Kinley at the expense of either Burdi or Bard was totally stupid. Add in the risk that was taken in not protecting others for the opportunity to pick a guy that will be back with his drafted organization by April. A much better choice would have been Albert Suarez who was taken after Kinley. Suarez is older, throws in the mid 90s and has been misused/underused by the Giants. He would have surely stuck as a long reliever.spot starter. BTW.. and now they sign Rodney???? Between Rodney and Pressly, Molitor is sure to have a heart attack when using late inning relievers in 2018!!
  9. The Twins had the leverage over BOTH the Mariners and the Angels as both were trying to stockpile international money for a run at Ohtani and for a total of 2 Million in bonus funds, all the Twins got was a couple of suspects. From the Mariners they got a 21 YO Catcher who is defensive oriented and who hit .236 in his first professional year. For a Million in bonus money, this was the best they could get?? Somebody needs to learn how to negociate when they hold all the cards. From the Angels we got a 19 YO Outfielder who is a defensive liability that hit .226 with NO HRs in his first year in rookie ball. After blowing $1 Million in bonus money on this guy, no wonder the Angles wanted to cut their losses. (Of course, we COULD have ended up getting Alex Meyer back!)So after losing out on the Ohtani sweepstakes, what does Seattle do with their now excessive amount of International Bonus Funds? They take the $1 Million they got from the Twins and turn it into 2 PROSPECTS. The Mariners got Misiewicz, a former farm hand who at age 23 pitched to a 4.00 ERA with 7.2K & 2.1BB per 9 (for 500 K in Bonus money PLUS Shawn Armstrong who had 152Ks over 98 innings at AAA over the last 3 years and has an11.3% K rate over 43 MLB innings for another 500K in bonus money. So who was the bonehead who negociated the the Twins "donation" of 2 Million in Bonus money for virtually NOTHING???
  10. Why all the kindness for the Angels and the Mariners. We got them between the rock and the hard place. They BOTH need international bonus money in the hope of signing Ohtani and the Twins, now out of that contention, have international money to burn. Why didn't we go for the throat and put the squeeze on both of them for a better return? Seems like we could have done much better. I would like to see the ppitch package prepared by the Twins for Ohtani - Could it have been better? Can we sue him for Scandahoovian Discrimination against the Twins?
  11. Trade with the St. Louis Cardinals Twins Ervin Santana RHP Ryan Pressly RHP SLC Luke Weaver RHP Austin Gomber LHP Connor Jones RHP Andrew Knizner C
  12. I'd be thankful if Joltin' Joe would stop hitting into so many DOUBLE PLAYS.
  13. Castro is probably gone in 2 years. Garver needs to be able to step up and start and there needs to be a plan in place as to the backup C. Your list should go to Santa as you have that kingd of chance to have any of it come true. Good call on Petit; but he wants to start. If you promise him genuine consideration as #4 or #5 starter, couple with the appropriate $, Twins can realistically expect to land him.
  14. butterspud, And that is why you dump Santana and take back young upside pitching. I doubt Madbum will re-up in SF after being victimized by a feeble offense and a pitiful bullpen the last few years. Plus there is probably some ill will towards him in the organization after his 2017 accident. We get our ace, and since he has never pitched extensively against AL teams, his career will probably be extended. Plus if he is an outdoorsman, what's not to like about MN? We only pry him loose because we are taking Pense who can DH and platoon with Kepler in RF for 1 year. By clearing both MadBum and Pense, SF can afford to take on Stanton's contract and stay under the tax threshold, which they have said is a priority
  15. Trade with the St. Louis Cardinals Twins Ervin Santana RHP Ryan Pressly RHP SLC Luke Weaver RHP Austin Gomber LHP Connor Jones RHP Andrew Knizner C Trade with the San Francisco Giants Twins Miguel Sano 3B Zach Granite CF Kohl Stewart RHP Jake Reed RHP Giants Madison Baumgarner LHP Hunter Pence RF Christian Arroyo SS/3B Albert Suarez RHP Jordan Johnson RHP
  16. I like the idea of transitioning Sano over to primarily being a 1B/DH, with Mauer seeing time as DH, not facing LHP, and getting off day games after night games. ( I forget whether it was day or night games that gave him difficulty after his concussion). This then gives rise to the importance of planning ahead for 3B. The band-aid of Escobar can only be used in the short-term. So who in the organization is the heir apparant and if there is none, the Twins better go out and find one. This then leads to discussions of SS and 2B. So maybe Dozier is extended and our SS moves to 3B when Gordon is ready.
  17. 4. Lock up Sano, if he refuses look for a club with multiple pitchers some very good ones close to major league ready, some lottery tickets with high upsides. Check in with San Francisco - they're barren at 3B and looking to cut payroll. Would they consider MadBum, IF we also took on Hunter Pence? MadBum would have to agree to an extension, but he loves the outdoors, may have PO'd SF after last years "accident", and may be getting tired of having SF bullpen blow his leads and leave him with no decisions. Will he Walk from SF after 2019??
  18. Late Additional Free Agent Pedro Floriman Infield is now complete: 3B = Trevor Plouffe SS = Pedro Floriman 2B = Eduardo Nunez 1B = Danny Valencia
  19. Opportunity to reunite with the past: NOW they are all free Agents!!! Ben Revere Francisco Liriano Craig Breslow Mike Pelfrey Rene Rivera Brian Duensing Eduardo Nunez Blaine Boyer Fernando Abad R A Dickey Brandon Kintzler Carlos Gomez Trevor Plouffe Danny Valencia Matt Belisle Bartolo Colon Dillon Gee Glenn Perkins Hector Santiago Jaime Garcia Anthony Swarzak Matt Garza Ricky Nolasco Shane Robinson Alex Presley Chris Gimenez We could create an entire 25 man roster - just for old times sake !!!
  20. Tyler Watson struck out 116 in 2017, not 16. Before trade = GS 18, IP 93, H 92, K 98, BB 24 After Trade = GS 05, IP 27, H 28, K 18, BB 08
  21. 1) Float the following in trade talks: Dozier, Escobar, Granite, Grossman, Vargas, Park. 2) Use as sweeteners: Duffey, Hildenberger, Pressley, Turley, Tonkin. 3) Sign free agents to MLB contracts: Yasmeiro Petit, Brandon Kintzler, and Albert Suarez (unsure if he is available this way) 4) Sign free agents to minor league contracts: Dillon Gee, Deitrich Enns, Neftali Feliz, Fernando Abad, David Aardsma. 5) Have an offseason todo list for EVERY player to heighten performance, improve physical flexibility, muscle tone, strengthen leg muscles. 6) Have new pitching coach focus on: generating Ks, fewer waste pitches, every starter making it through 6 innings, adapting pitch patterns to umpiring crew, developing new pitches. 7) Engage base running/stealing expert(s)to serve in ST and beyond to improve individual ability in this area. 8) Take the hardest thrower available in the Rule 5 Draft; if that means creatively moving around with dollars/players so be it. 9) Engage the Cardinals in trading for Ervin Santana targeting young pitching and outfielders. Throw in Pressley. 10)Engage the SF Giants to see if they would discuss Mad Bum if we dangled Sano. It would hinge on Mad Bum signing an extension or new contract.
  22. If he doesn't show enough to hang on to him in ST, trade him to SF for Denard Span!!
  23. Santana had too many poor outings to be an "A" and his poor clutch performance in the playoffs leave him as a "B" at best. Berrios earned a rating of "B+" Gibson was a first half "F" and a second half "B" so let's say "C-" Mejia was a "C", however that was due to the short leash Molitor had him on and the quick hook when Mejia got into trouble. Colon was a "C" for the Twins and a "C-" for the year, remember he came off the scrapheap. And what of the ratings for the other 11 starters used???
  24. Pressly is overrated as a "C". All to often when he is brought in he gives up a hit, a walk or both. This makes him useless to bring in with runners on base; his only value is to start an inning with zero on base. Check his stats for inherited runners scored. I would have him work on the mental side of his game; he needs to come in like a bulldog. Failing that, make him available for trade. His smoke only has value if his pitches are not smoked by batters in the opposite direction.
  25. Outcome was determined just as soon as it was established that the Yankees had home field advantage. When the Twins see pinstripes, they fold like napkins. Hitters need to be able to hit in the clutch off "pitchers pitches", rather than just hitting pitchers mistakes.
