  1. I doubt Kubel has much of a leash at all. There's not a ton invested in him. The only issue will be if he makes the roster and the Twins lose Parmelee, there may not be much behind him in the way of competition. Chris Herrmann maybe? He's nice depth but probably won't get too many people excited.
  2. I know almost everyone turned the Twins off after the All-Star break, but Duensing was pretty lights out the second half with a 1.215 WHIP, 8.9 K/9, 4.33 K/BB, 3.08 ERA. I wouldn't expect Diamond to come anywhere near those numbers.
  3. Accountability? The trade happened yesterday. Was there supposed to be an appologetic news conference? I'll give them more than a day to state that they made some mistakes with the Worley debacle. If asked, I'm guessing any number of front office members will say they messed up in the evaluation.
  4. I must disagree. One is from Wisconsin, the other is from South Dakota. I have yet to meet a gentleman from either of those states.
  5. Off Broadway. But it's the classic "Springtime for Hitler."
  6. I heard the Twins got more money for Worley than the Red Sox got for selling Babe Ruth. Babe Ruth!! How could the Twins say no to that kind of proposition from Pittsburgh?
  7. Picking Parmelee is bascially picking both of them. Kubel is one flight away and can be summoned the next day if/when Parmelee/Colabello/Willingham/Arcia flop or get hurt. It doesn't work the other way around, I just don't understand the hesitation. It's not like you HAVE to commit to Parmelee just because you choose him, his stay at with the Twins doesn't have to be long.
  8. I certainly hope all five of those guys aren't gone when the Twins pick at #5! Though I guess wouldn't put it past the Cubs to somehow find a loophole for them to grab two of them at pick #4.
  9. With Herrmann getting sent down, I think Colabello is making the team as a RH bench bat. I agree with picking Parmelee also, hopefully the team comes to their senses.
  10. Just playing devil's advocate, but what if it is abundantly clear that you will not have the option or ability to pay him, but the "sooner rather than later" scenario instead refers to his green-eyed agent convincing him it's best to hit a big market payday ASAP and leave the boonies behind? I'm looking at you Alex Meyer. If Meyer happened to turn into a Justin Verlander, do any of us really believe that Boras won't do everything in his power to get him to NY as quickly as possible?
  11. Lots of arms, and Crawford's right, the bats aren't really distinguishing themsevles this year. It would be strange, but not unexpected if the top 5 are all pitchers.
  12. Well they gave Guerrier his walking papers. I was always under the impression that Gardy loved Guerrier. Seems like that would contradict this belief.
  13. I think the Twins come to their senses and reassign Kubel. I'm glad the Twins aren't going with three catchers, but there will still be some linering hesitation by Gardy to pinch hit Pinto, so I think Colabello is nearly a given now as a RH bench option. That would leave one spot for Kubel or Parmelee, and while Kubel has history here, Parmelee has a long track record with this organization as well, I don't think they lose him simply to give the under-performing Kubel a token roster spot. I agree with most everyone else that Bartlett and Tonkin also get the pink slips.
  14. The players are getting screwed over but this is basically tradition since the salaries got out of control the last couple decades. If they want to change this, they need to add something to the next CBA. The problem is that any kind or money or service time issue that affects minor leaguers generally gets crapped upon by the MLB players union. They tend to only concern themselves with the issues of established players.
  15. Anyone who's read a MLB.com affiliated article could tell this. Heck, just look at the headlines from any given moment at the Twins mlb.com site any it's easy to see the stuff is written by employees. Still, it's nice to have this out there. There should be no ambiguity, this stuff is PR, not actual journalism.
  16. It's been said a million times but the Twins already have an emergency catcher playing 1B. If that is absolutely not a possibility, then be a normal team and let the pitcher hit or pinch hit for him in the one freakin' game all year where that situation MAY come into play. Shrinking your bench by one bat for 161 games simply to guard against that situation is beyond shortsighted. Herrmann, Pinto and Suzuki should make it based on production, not as a 100-1 emergency insurance.
  17. Reasons unknown? Everyone knows the most common cause of fractures in both legs is borrowing money from a guy named Rocco.
  18. This is great news. With the will they/won't they saga regarding his call up last year, he was beginning to get kind of a "savior" tag. He shouldn't have to play with those expectations now.
  19. I doubt it. I'm guessing most of us are just fine with Detroit being short their starting SS, regardless of their feelings regarding the diagnosis. But this sounds different than Joe's vague condition anyway. Bilateral just means both sides of the body and that seems to be the only similar term in this comparison. Joe's condition (which as far as I remember was only mentioned by Gardy, Smith or some other non-medically liscensed personell) was just described as "leg weakness," not a stress fracture.
  20. I've questioned Antony's qualifications before, but he gets a gold star in my book for calling out these guys. Now if he started calling out the guys who continually signed underperforming players....
  21. I want to see more from him too, but Deron Johnson himself scouted him last week.
  22. Only in jest, because I'm very anti-PED's and would not want to lay baseless accusations against anyone, but: Are we entirely sure that he was thoroughly and vetted that Vance Worley is not actually Eric Gagne.
  23. Was he released? Or was he DFA'd? The ESPN 1500 facebook page says he was optioned to Rochester which I think is impossible as he's out of options. Or did he already clear waivers when we weren't looking? Edit: The report I saw on ESPN 1500 was from his demotion last May. I'd still like to hear if more comes from this. Letting him go would imply a release. If that's the case, you have to like Meyer and May's chances of starting in Rochester, otherwise why wouldn't the Twins try to sneak Worley through waivers unless they didn't want him taking up a Rochester rotation spot either.
  24. I'd logically agree, but I recall Ryan specifically saying he signed Correia because he got good reviews from his scouts. In fact we had a bit of a brouhaha about it because many of us thought it was silly to need scouts to evaluate Correia at this point in his career and we preferred Ryan to base his decision on Jack Goin and the data team instead. So regardless of how everyone feels about that dustup now, at the very least, the Twins still use scouts to evaluate veteran pitchers, it stands to reason the Rays would too. Someone could probably just send these guys a Youtube link and save the organization the travel costs.
