  1. There isn't a rule that you have to replace him with another DH-only is there? Also, I can't watch the game, what happened to Park?
  2. Polanco needs to play every day, they can rotate him between 2B-SS-3B if that's what it takes. Dozier/Nunez/Plouffe can take turns on the bench.
  3. I'm going to be disappointed if Polanco is riding pine for the Twins, he has more than earned an extended look with the team.
  4. I'm not in to throwing at guys, but if I were, I'd do it again right now.
  5. Too many men on the field, five run penalty on the White Sox.
  6. They're letting wives in the dugout now?
  7. He still only swung and missed at one pitch in high school. Also he had that blue ox I believe.
  8. http://cdn2.hubspot.net/hub/137629/file-411273987-jpg/images/Ripping_Off_Bandaid.jpg Let's finish ripping this sucker off now. There's plenty of other difficult decisions that can be made, let's get them over with. Wouldn't it be nice to get these frustrations, unanswered questions and dilemmas over and done with in May, so we can start over fresh and still have plenty of the season remaining that isn't shrouded in consternation wondering when the next axe will fall?
  9. Do you get a fever with herpes? I'm asking because I wouldn't know.
  10. Wow, 1.2 innings for Graham. Here I thought Meyer and Hughes got a quick hook. I'm happy with the house cleaning, but I would have optioned Graham again. Even aside from the Rule V, he and Pressly had a lot of similarities and Pressly is working out OK.
  11. I agree that they were way too late to do the rebuild, they should have started the youth movement after 2010, I know they won the division, but there were a lot of us who said the end was at hand after that season. Still, just because they were late with the youth movement and turning over the vets, they still need to do it. I also don't think the team was anywhere near close to a contender last year, the whole season seemed like a mirage, even when they were winning. Record-wise sure, just not ready to compete. I'm good getting vets once we know what we need, but they have to flush out the system first. We still don't know which of these young guys are going to be capable players, in my view that has to happen first or we're just blindly guessing, trying to fill future holes. Will we need bullpen help in 2017-18? We're not going to know until we see what Burdi, Chargois, Melotakis and Rogers can do. Does the rotation need another stable veteran? Who knows, we haven't seen nearly enough of Meyer, Berrios and Duffey and May is still banished to the pen. Will we need a catcher? Well uh, yeah, that's a given, go find a catcher if one is available.
  12. I'd say the benefit would be giving Gene Glynn a reasonable audition this year.
  13. I agree with the grievances, except for this one. If anything, I wish he would have gone even more youthful, particularly in the rotation and the pen. But I also wasn't expecting them to go out an win a pennant in 2016. However judging from Jim Pohlad's comments, that was what was expected from the organization. I wonder if they had any kind of organizational meeting last off season to discuss the goals for 2016, because it sounds like ownership thought they would make moves to contend, the front office made moves for development and the field staff is managing like they are in a pennant race. I'm beginning to suspect that the Twins notorious cloak and dagger level of opaqueness with the fans and media might not be systematic and internal communication between ownership/front office/field staff might also be lacking.
  14. I've been extremely critical of the organization, but I just wanted to throw this possibility out there: We've been critical of the Twins being thrifty and we've been critical of the Twins terrible roster decisions. However, since Twins Daily was pretty unanimous in the opinion that Casey Fien shouldn't have been tendered a contract, and Tommy Milone's support here was luke-warm at best, we should probably assume that the front office also at least considered the possibility that giving these two money might not work out great. It's not out of the realm of possibilities that Fien and Milone were given these contracts with the idea from the on-set that their salary would cause them to clear waivers when it inevitably came to that. If so, that would mean the team was willing to way overpay for veteran depth they could stash in AAA. I don't think that was the motivation, I think they were just poor decisions, but it would have been a shrewd and pricey gamble if that was the intention.
  15. Great read and great effort, you must have stayed up pretty late writing that one. I think the bolded part is accurate, personally though, I don't see the importance of a hypothetical new manager getting the same responses from the vets as the kids. I really only care about developing the kids and getting as many of them as possible to reach their potential, I don't see any of the vets, save possibly Gibson, as important long-term pieces anyway. Most of the vets have been around the block, they've already had multiple managers and most have played for multiple teams, if they can't mesh with a manager who relates to young guys, the vets can take a hike. That's all strawman stuff I bring up though because Suzuki, Nunez and all the other vets appear to be committed and professional ballplayers. I think these guys would likely perform the same with any competent manager. Saying that, it also makes me resent Pohlad's comments laying all the blame on the players. These guys are working hard and it's evident, though it's not all clicking for some reason. I've been advocating for wholesale roster changes, but this 25-man and 40-man is made up of very likeable men.
  16. I have no issue at all with Sano and Arcia, they bring an energy and enthusiasm that has been lacking for years for this organization. No thanks on a team full of boyscouts.
  17. My least favorite quote: "Everybody had universally high expectations for this season relative to last season. We bought into that. I still don't see any flaw in that. It's just system failure." No, just no, not everyone thought this team was as good as they produced last year. Both "baseball people" and every single analytical evaluation said that this team vastly over-achieved last year. If the entire organization went into this last off season thinking they were that good, despite mounds of evidence pointing to the contrary, everyone should be looking for new jobs. Talk about too deep into the forest to see the trees. Good lord, such short-sightedness is beyond disappointing.
  18. I agree they took half measures regardless of their chosen path, and they've been guilty of taking half measures for decades. Still, this was the right move, so perhaps it will lead to more right moves. If this is a concession that they screwed up, I'm not going to rub their nose in it unless they still proceed with moves that demonstrate that they still haven't learned. They may have, and this is a fine start.
  19. I was as critical of re-upping Fien and giving Milone one of the starting gigs as anyone, those were probably the two moves that frustrated me the most. However, I would also like to point out that their acquisitions were two of Ryan's best moves in his second stint. Signing Fien to a minor league deal worked great for three years, and trading Fuld for Milone was a steal. Kudos for cutting bait in early May. I would have liked it done sooner, but human nature tells us that it's hard to concede a past victory that is now no longer a victory. Neither are the reason the Twins are a losing club in 2016 anyway, the team would still be losing if Duffey and Chargois had their spots from the start.
  20. Phil's velocity is about where it was last year. Unfortunately. I don't think it's ever coming back, injury or not. He's a 90 MPH guy now.
  21. I wished the games mattered, and I hope I didn't imply otherwise. I just had very low expectations this year despite last year's success. While I had low expectations for the team, my secondary excitement has always been to see the young guys, which had been building for years; it finally seems like we are going to get to see most of them. 2007 I was really disappointed, that team was supposed to be good, and they completely let me down, I guess personally, my attitude usually stems from where I set the bar at the beginning of the year.
  22. I remember hearing the Twins were solidly tied to someone, though I can't recall who either on this site or MLBTR, probably both. Either it's not listed in the blurbs for the MLB list, or he isn't on the list. I'm sure it's a solid list, but it was only about three months ago that Armenteros was the biggest International Superstar ever and he's only sitting at #4 here.
  23. I'll echo several other posters; I was never too interested in the wins and losses this year as I wasn't expecting any kind of playoff run. I want to watch the young guys develop. I'm excited to see Sano, Arcia and Park at bat and have been excited when Berrios, Duffey and Meyer have gotten their starts. Conversely, I lost interest in the game the other day when Meyer got yanked in the 3rd. I didn't really care about the final score, I wanted to see a 97 MPH heater. Wins and losses are for 2017, I hope, this year I want to see which young guys are going to help get those wins next year.
  24. https://twitter.com/RhettBollinger/status/727646660076048384 Ryan already heavily implied Lincecum isn't a fit, saying he wasn't sure if he'd even send a scout to watch him since Tim wants to start. Of course that is basically as good as acknowledgement that Lincecum would not start for the Twins: Let's go ahead and keep criticism contained to actions they have taken, not hypothetical and/or implausible actions that best fit a personal agenda.
  25. And insist on 2-for-1 trades, where in the Twins are the team receiving the fewer players back in return.
