  1. Judging by who often passes as MLB shortstops, I tend to think baseball pundits set a really high bar for shortstop defense with the prospects.
  2. Last we heard from him is that it wasn't specifically Clinton related, but it's pretty hard to believe anything he says. I'm a little worried. Why isn't there more outrage over the Russian's continual hacking? Is it because they only intentionally hack the Democrats? I'll be disappointed if the US isn't doing the same or worse to Russia right now. Hopefully we're better at it and can really F with Putin next time his rigged elections occur again.
  3. They do too, it's just the French Canadian way of saying face-mask, which is a 15 yard penalty. Sadly, I would guess it's probably pretty similar in a baseball clubhouse. Is there just something chemically in your brain that changes when you get to the highest couple of tax brackets? Or is there just something that draws most of the white male athletes from conservative families? I guess a ton do come from the south.
  4. Timeless is the one where the heroes include a woman and an African American going back in time and trying to fix things? I think the modern day scientists in charge of of sending people back in time probably should have taken a social studies class or two to see if those would be two of the best choices for a discreet mission....
  5. I probably would shed too many teams if the Twins switched out Blyleven for Marney Gelner.
  6. Good point, they don't have competition to drive fair wages. Seems like a good reason to once again explore rescinding MLB's anti-trust exemption.
  7. Yeah, that Vin Scullly guy never played baseball either. What a hack, get off the radio you don't know what you're talking about!
  8. Hillary tried laughing at herself regarding the mishandling of the email stuff then promptly got crushed because she was making light about something that a certain demographic thinks is the worst thing to ever happen.
  9. I agree the MLBPA should be helping, and they have plenty of fault, but they don't pay the salaries, the owners shouldn't need their arms twisted by the union to do this. Other business models can figure out how to pay 100 entry level employees livable wages, but not the MLB?
  10. So in other words, eh we would pay them more, but we're too busy right now to figure out an OT schedule. Otherwise we totally would! Of course they wouldn't need to worry about OT with salaried employees. Who would ever think to pay professionals a salary?! Unheard of! 25K annually at Low A, 35K at High A, 45K at AA, 55K at AAAA. Just a thought, and one that took ten seconds. Might be able to come up with something better with a half hour of thought.
  11. I actually like the staging and the attention to detail in Luke Cage better than the other shows. Being a white guy I am only speaking on assumption, but the show seems much more authentic as far as the NY neighborhood of focus than the other shows. The scenery and ambiance seems much more faithful to the subject than many other shows set in NY, particularly shows based in Harlem. As an outsider who does like to see other perspectives I think the producers and director have done a great job with a culture that I can only pretend to know. The writing on the other hand could use some help. As mentioned by others the villain doesn't match up to previous baddies, though this is bound to happen as I think super-hero villains are usually subject to the law of diminishing returns; at some point the best ones will all get used up. I don't know what bad guys are left on the table, but I'd have to guess they'll want to save one of the better ones for the Defenders; you're not going to need a group effort to take down a guy like Cottenmouth. I'm six episodes in and it has dragged a bit but there is a clear line at the end of this episode indicating the show is about to take off in a different direction. Fingers crossed.
  12. I wrote McCain's name in on the ballot in 2000. I hated what Bush did to him so bad. I'll never understand what happened to him though. In 2008 he basically did to the RNC what Trump did this year, he got the nomination despite not being Tea Party enough and no one in the party wanting him to win. Then AFTER he got the nomination he went full crazy on the bit taking photo ops going to church, backing away from his immigration amnesty, LGBT and military stances. Why didn't he stick to what got him there, namely, being the only sane Republican?
  13. I think the Twins talked about Hale, but I don't recall Chip Hale backers here, maybe they were. If so, I'd guess it was the folks who like callbacks to the past in the form of former Twins. Seems to me there was a lot of Dave Martinez and Doug Mientkiewicz support with some hoping that Ozzie Guillen and Sandy Alomar would be considered, then when it got down to only a couple of candidates Terry Lovello was the horse most people were cheering for here.
  14. No kidding. If VP debates had any impact Bensten's "Senator, you're no Jack Kennedy" line not only would have clinched the presidency for Dukakis, but it would have made him emperor of the universe.
  15. Right, it sounded like a guy in a job interview when asked what he might say his biggest weakness is and he says, "I guess I'd have to say my biggest weakness is sometimes I'm TOO smart." I have to think Pence probably cried himself to sleep last night over having to publicly suck-up to a man who is just as arrogant but twice as dumb.
  16. One probably could have stopped reading after seeing his criteria for defining a manager: When he uses his best relievers. How rigid his approach to the bullpen is. Where he puts his best hitters in the lineup. How often he bunts with non-pitchers. Oops.
  17. All things great. Though golfing and tacos don't always go together.
  18. The majority of white voting age males just have to stop getting conned into thinking their lives have become exponentially worse then they really are. Too many people driving their new cars from their single family home in their overwhelmingly white suburb to their 9-5 job that they've had for a decade seem to think they have worse and worse problems every year. "Fear Everything" really should be the RNC's slogan.
  19. No, I remember when people thought it was a steal when they got La russa. I don't recall people celebrating Stewart and I certainly don't remember them cheering Hale who was seen as a hard-nosed old school manager even though that's exactly what they just fired in Kirk Gibson. I don't think La russa is a very hands-on president, not in the vein of Epstein, Beane or Freidman anyway. I think he looked at it as a low-effort retirement gig where he could be a figurehead and delegate responsibilities. He should have been fired too; I wonder if he may have some ownership percentage that people aren't talking or don't know about.
  20. I said at the trade deadline that I preferred to hang on to Santana because I wanted the next GM to make the decision. I'm not saying that Anthony would surely get it wrong, and I'm not saying that a Falvey picked GM would surely get it right. I just don't think I feel comfortable with the same guys who have been doing this the past two decades doing all the leg work. I don't think Falvey should feel comfortable with it either. If it fails with Anthony making the deal, will everyone lay it as a failure at Falvey's feet? If it works out, will everyone instead credit Terry Ryan as Anthony is his disciple, not Falvey's?
  21. Bringing in an entire new staff obviously isn't feasible, however at the same time I'm worried that Falvey will have to hold the hands of Anthony/Johnson/Steil/Radcliff teaching them how a modern day front office needs to work when he really needs to focus on Dozier/Santana decisions and restructuring the scouting and development teams. This may be the team's biggest year to rebuild with two really good tradable vets and being in the catbird seat for the draft. At the very least he needs another like-mind from outside ASAP, hopefully a half-dozen.
  22. 52-110. We're guessing Sano's HR and RBI total right?
  23. So you're saying if it doesn't work out for him in the front office there's a job waiting for him in the Twins bullpen.
  24. I get that John Oliver is liberal, but I haven't met anyone who hasn't said he isn't grounded and fair. His show is the best and his comparing of Clinton and Trump scandals was spot on:
  25. This is getting very myopic and repetitive, if the American public is able to change their views on these subjects over the past two decades, why the hell aren't the politicians? All of your accusations are present tense when in fact you have no idea if they are past tense. I get that you don't believe her and you don't like her, but most of these are your opinions that her past stances are still current, not facts. Clinton isn't a saint, and I don't agree with all of her current positions or past positions but she's not a bad candidate, and she's a monumental upgrade to the list of loathsome candidates the other party dragged out this year even aside from Trump. The GOP didn't have a decent human being running except for possibly Kasich or Graham. None of them would have made it a close race because the only reason Trump is within shouting distance is because he's not a politician which appears to be the main if not sole purpose driving his supporters.
