  1. And a pretty sweet Magnum PI mustache.
  2. I'd like to check out Daniel Hudson. He was bad last year except when the D-Backs gave him a chance to close, he was pretty good then. He still has good velocity and checking out fangraphs, his FB and slider were pretty good last year, it looks like his issue was that he got his changeup knocked around. 1) Neil Allen is supposed to be a changeup guru 2) Two pitches is usually good enough for relievers who throw 95-97 and have a good slider.
  3. That likely only means his money will be higher, not the years. It really shouldn't matter if he gets $4M or $10M if it's only one year, that's not prohibitive for any team.
  4. Three or the past five HS kids drafted at 1-1 that signed have debuted within three years. And that doesn't include Bryce Harper who went to Junior College as a 17-year-old so he could get drafted early.
  5. They'll be ready for the fight seeing as there is only one amendment that REALLY matters. http://seveninchesofyourtime.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/06/arnold-schwarzenegger-commando.jpg
  6. I would normally agree, but seeing how volatile Dozier's 1st half and 2nd half splits are the past three years and seeing as if there is another ugly split in 2017 we likely will not know which will be the good half going in, I really think he has to be moved now and not chance a better return mid-season. As a fan I do see the Twins over a barrel in this sense, though I don't assume that any negotiating team will actually be able to use this particular barrel against them. Yet.
  7. I'll have to check it out once I'm home tonight.
  8. Just because the police didn't charge anyone doesn't mean no crime was committed. I'm not the one making assumptions, we don't know what happened, nor likely do the police, which means they CAN'T act. The university and the police don't have to have the same burden of proof standards nor should they. The school doesn't have to have proof beyond a reasonable doubt to flunk a kid for cheating on a test or to ban a guy from the women's dorms if he's suspected of stalking. I'm not assuming anything happened and legally the police cannot either but the University can. Going to school there and partaking in their activities isn't a constitutional right, it's a privilege that can be revoked upon their discretion. If they think there is reasonable enough suspicion of improper conduct they have a right to act in the best interest of the community, the other students and their brand. The university has bungled this and just about everything else, but they do not have to act with the same standards as law enforcement.

  10. Try this. http://www.sbnation.com/2011/12/2/2604446/rafael-palmeiro-1999-gold-glove Basically the only conclusion the author could come up with, was that the voters didn't realize he didn't play in the field that year and just voted for him based on assumption and past reputation. I'd also venture it's possible the Russians hacked the GG voting that year. Also funny enough, to find that old article I did google Rafael Palmeiro and "Gold Glove" was the third drop down choice, just as referenced in the article.
  11. if adamant is the correct adjective for that sentence, I am definitely curious to find out more about that. I would have assumed Molitor was involved with choosing his first 1st coach.
  12. Kidnapping jokes are the best!
  13. First, I'm guessing you have not seen this video. Second, no video evidence of rape does not mean the absence of rape. I'm not saying it wasn't all on the up and up, but you're making assumptions likely based on hearsay from parties with a vested interest in the outcome.
  14. Right, obviously the strategy really should have no impact with pick 1-1. Unless someone like Bukauskas is clearly the best player but there are hesitations about his height. Not that I think he's the best player or even best pitcher.
  15. Well only because Urias and De Leon will have graduated.
  16. I forget who did the study a couple years ago, but the results showed that right-handers under 6'2" where typically the best bargains in the draft. It seemed the true risk associated with their height was not anywhere close to the perceived risk. The study was based on MLB results. I remember that read from prior to the Tyler Jay/Carson Fulmer draft. Of course at 1-1 the Twins probably shouldn't be looking for bargains.
  17. Well, we'll just have to wait until June 10th.
  18. Forsythe appears to be a lesser 2B defensively, but I'm not sure if the difference is a huge deal. Offensively Dozier looks pretty superior though over the past three years, even if only using the past two years. I wonder what Freidman's feelings about dealing with his former team would be. Surely there would be some added incentive not to "lose" that trade.
  19. I'm hoping we see Berrios at the MLB level. However after Neil Allen's fairly scathing assessment of the organization's lack of vision and in particular their lack of enforcement of the young guys commanding their pitches, I think we may see a lot of pitchers go back a level and get remedial work. I hope it doesn't happen, but I won't be shocked if we actually see a couple of the guys in AA we were hoping to see soon actually go back to get extra attention with the instructors in Ft Myers. If the front office didn't take Allen's organizational denouncement and the pitching plan he created as a result seriously, I just can't see any other reason that they would have retained him.
  20. If Falvey is putting his rotation together based on his experiences in Cleveland, one would have to think May will be in the rotation and Hughes in the pen. Cleveland appears to value velocity and an assortment of pitches from it's starters; most of them have an average velocity over 92MPH and/or regularly use four different pitches. Hughes 89 MPH FB and three pitch repertoire doesn't look like what Cleveland does. On the other hand May can meet both of those criteria.
  21. Agreed, perhaps it's a "you'd have to be there to understand" kind of situation for us. For those of us who want to see May get another shot at starting, this news can't hurt though. On a related note, I think Phil Hughes would be considered a veteran. Just saying.
  22. The one that always gets me is that London is further north than Winnipeg.
  23. Confusing for sure. I understand in Canada night is about four months long this time of year?
