  1. For some reason left handers seem to be able to pull this off. David Wells, CC Sabatthia, Carlos Silva, Eddie Guardado. Also, for some reason velocity tends to play up for lefties.
  2. Right, spring training just comes first. If they didn't start working on command in ST first, we'd probably be shaking our heads.
  3. I'm all for it, and I'd guess Molitor would be on board initially. However I could also see Molitor sliding back to full-time Mauer if Park/Vargas or whomever else is Mauer's RH platoon mate struggles.
  4. It sounded like they were working both sides of the plate, though not one any more than the other. Though I want to see them working up in the zone more as opposed to the team's fairly strict adherence to working low. It seems even more important now that the strike zone is at the top of the knees.
  5. I'm not sure if this is anything new; we heard a synopsis of Allen's command-focused development plan when Falvey decided to retain him last fall. I would guess this is not the entirety of the development ideas though. Reports were that Allen was fairly scathing in his review of the organization's prior ?philosophy/game-plan/development? regarding the pitching, so I'd think the only way that Allen could have kept his job when other field staff did not was by telling Falvey something that he liked. And Falvey came from an organization that has had recent success with pitching. I'm optimistic that SOMEONE has an idea as to what was previously wrong and I really don't care who that someone is as long as we start to see improvement, which frankly, shouldn't be hard; nowhere to go but up.
  6. Yeah, making the choices of whom to expose would have seemed much easier 12 months ago. Not a great time for a half dozen guys to finally break out. I mean unless you're interested in winning hockey games now. Then I suppose it is a pretty good time for them to break out.
  7. Yeah, pretty sure some of my irrational ranting posts about sinkerball pitchers have gone 2000 words easy.
  8. Seth's 'Stop By, Say Hi' thread really helped bring some of our long time viewers to their keyboards. Now we just need a 'Stop By, Write a 2,000 Word Story'!
  9. There seems to be far too many veterans at the AAA and MLB level. With the last front office, we could be extremely confident that the pecking order was almost always based on age then experience. I really hope that's not the case anymore. I'd really hate to think that guys like Hughes, Santiago, Vogelsong, Tepesch, Greenwood, Rucinski and Pino are going to get the first looks instead of the young guys at their respective levels. I really hope the first thing every pitcher over 26 was told yesterday when they reported was that they better be prepared to head to the pen and there better not be any grousing or campaigning to start if the younger arms are looking good to go.
  10. . Great way to break the ice here Walter. Nice job and I hope to see you continue contributing to the forums!
  11. He said realistic, we're still waiting for that nearly 250 years later.
  12. Hey, you can't prove it was Al, he never got convicted! I heard it was a hunting accident.
  13. My wife and I watched it too. Some really good laugh out loud moments. Walking Dead level of gore but a comedy. It was great. Also, I am beyond bored of the angsty teen trope, however the daughter in this one somehow didn't get on my nerves like those stock archetypes typically do. Well done all around.
  14. I think a picture with the nuclear football was implicit with any campaign contribution over 1M. Over 2M you get to push a button.
  15. Seems like one of the most respected publications of prospect rankings has at least some influence on the industry. And if these guys are buying BA, what other ownership interests might they try to acquire? To exaggerate the concern only to point out that there could be a conflict of interest now or in the future, there would be a huge cry of shenanigans if Hal Steinbrenner instead purchased BA.
  16. Obviously I'd take the under. But this is baseball, every year is surprising in some way. I'll say this: I like the 2017 club better than I liked the 2015 club at this time two years ago.
  17. Interesting idea, if the Twins keep in their losing by ways FSN could start hiring sock puppets and it wouldn't matter. I might shoot for assistant to the traveling secretary though.
  18. Geez, all this snark might make a young person otherwise interested in the gig have second thoughts. Sounds like a great opportunity for some of our young and childless baseball enthusiasts.
  19. The Twitter commenters you don't like don't stand for anything. There isn't anything for them to build political momentum around. The Democratic party should taken to task for these people because someday they MIGHT grow to power around some kind of pro-internet trolling platform? There's no logic here, the party leaders are not involved in this non-sense. Anger and frustration are irrational responses these aren't things someone is going to be able to stop. People who agree with left policy but don't want to be caught dead supporting them are the people who have bought into the BS propaganda about the snobby liberal elite. The other party has trademarked that stereotype for the other side and people are buying it. It has little to do with what ever anger internet trolls are spewing and having that take over the party. I think it has a LOT to do with being afraid that the guys down at the Elks Club finding out that they agree with the snooty commie liberals.
  20. These people aren't running the party, IGNORE them, they have no pull and make no policy. The Tea Party does. Nobody, on the right or left can stop the crazies, but you can keep them from having any power. Only one party has done that.
  21. This is propaganda. You're seriously saying liberals are shamming people for being under-privileged? Defending the minority and under-privileged is a cornerstone of the whole movement. The Republicans aren't lining up on social media to corral people into supporting their minority opinion because the fringe groups are already running the party and doing what they want. They don't need to round up civilian supporters for their lunacy, they have to round up the remaining ethical politicians into going along with insane ideas, and that goes on behind the scene. Case in point, the Republican Senate just made DeVos the Secretary of Education. There aren't lunatic fringe liberals with any power in the Democratic party that would have convinced the rest of the party to go along with something equally as asinine. Oh, and your kidding about no Republicans denouncing scientists right?
  22. So the left has a problem in that they aren't nipping all the arrogant people in the bud? That's not a very reasonable expectation, that's just looking for an excuse to blame the party. And seriously, what exactly is the bat-**** crazy things these people have gotten the party leaders to do? And this depiction of the smug, snobby, typical-lefty is an entirely offensive and BS stereotype. It's a freakin' caricature of the tweed-wearing, pipe-smoking, know-it-all college professor. The Republican party has painted this minority stereotype across all liberals and told everybody, "You can be this guy who thinks he's better than you because he went to school, or you can be us!" and their supporters have eaten it up and have now associated getting an education with being this exaggerated, arrogant cartoon.
  23. Is this smugness and snobbery a real thing with left wing politicians, or just a narrative that the right has somehow manufactured and people who want to believe it embrace it with gusto? Because for every smug Democratic politician moment, I seem to recall about a dozen from the other side. I don't think Trump or Ted Cruz have any other demeanor than smug. Or is the smugness and snobbery more coming from a faction of leftwing supporters? Because if that's the case, so what? You're not voting for those people, they're just annoying %$^&s. Every party has annoying %$^& supporters.
  24. I would agree, but color me extremely skeptical that Joe Mauer is going to see any significant reduction in playing time, baring injury of course. Even if in theory the front office is game to it, it will be Molitor, not them who will be omitting Mauer's name from the lineup and dealing with any awkwardness and repercussions.
  25. Yes, it would if a football player from NDSU went into the NFL, they talk about that stuff all the time. But it doesn't get brought up if a baseball player came from NDSU, Juan Gamez actually came from NDSU last year and is now in the Twins system. It also doesn't get brought up with HS players or Latin players. They may bring up concerns about "level of competition" or concerns about hitting a good breaking ball or making enough contact or chasing pitches, but it's rare that anyone mentions concerns about catching up to a MLB fastball. And Brandon wrote a good article, my question is just a generality since this velocity stuff was what we heard about when Park was signed and before that with Kang. I don't question why people would worry about it. It just seems to me that when asked if Park can catch up to a 95 MPH heater, the answer should be "Duh, that's a concern with EVERYBODY".
