  1. I've been against Hughes in the rotation all off season. But my biggest gripe, even more so than the velocity is that he had no changeup and his curve was always awful. Well 26% of his pitches last game were changeups, a pitch he hasn't really thrown in half a decade and only 30% of his pitches were fastballs (slowballs?). It looks like there is an active effort to re-invent Hughes. I'm still extremely skeptical and doubtful it will work, but I'll give him some leash seeing as they are attempting to fix him as opposed to stubbornly trying to push what no longer worked.
  2. So he'd probably get even more heat getting thrown out at second before Grossman crossed the plate.
  3. Maybe he's getting a pass for turning a double into a triple yesterday.
  4. That was a clean hit! Man these scorers!
  5. All reports make it sound like Greene has a pretty easy delivery. I don't think it's the velocity that causes arm issues, it's the exertion. Something I'm pretty confident the new analytically and pitching inclined front office is monitoring. Bukauskas would be my second choice, but his height worries me every bit as much Greene's inexperience.
  6. Except in the game threads, everyone's a troll. Somehow it works there though!
  7. So you don't want guys with plus velocity? I've grown very tired of the alternative.
  8. I don't see Rooker anywhere on BA's top 100 list but that article and the Fangraphs projections have me extremely interested. I wonder how much his draft stock jumps the rest of the year. What kind of spot is he looking at? The Twins also drafted him last year in the 38th round, so they should be familiar. Is it weird that 30 minutes of reading on this guy will now leave me devastated if the Twins don't somehow end up with him? I didn't even know who he was before lunch!
  9. That's a good interview. Rooker certainly sounds like he has a handle on swing mechanics which is a plus. Lot's of guys can talk about their swing, but he sounded like he might enjoy working on his swing as much as he likes playing baseball. Sounds like a good player to have.
  10. I completely would agree if a specific class of people weren't being burdened by his actions. And to be clear, I'm looking at this solely as work related discrimination. Who he socializes with in non-work related situations should be his call. Assuming politicians ever have off hours?
  11. It does sound like Greene's HS coach is doing right by him. He's not going deep into games and looking at his numbers the only reason for that is because he has a coach who cares about his future. Looks like Greene threw 55 IP as a junior and is only at 21 thus far as a senior. http://www.maxpreps.com/athlete/hunter-greene/uMJm9ZrFEeOzMAAmVebBJg/gendersport/baseball-stats.htm And only ten games left in the regular season. http://www.maxpreps.com/high-schools/notre-dame-(so)-knights-(sherman-oaks,ca)/baseball/schedule.htm Looks like the Twins might have a good number of innings to play around with if they'd like to. Ha, and assuming he's the pick.
  12. It's a tough spot for any celebrity, not just politicians and I understand the idea since there are plenty of people still living in the stone age who think eating with a woman who isn't your wife is terrible, and those people are typically his base voters. But at some point he and other's worried about their image need to tell those that would judge him on this BS to get lost. Because these are likely the same kinds of people who would have thought dinner alone with a black man 40 years ago was also sinful, and even guys like Pence have typically called BS on that kind of judgment in this day and age.
  13. We apparently called the Russians to get out of the way and Syria says the bombings killed six people at the base that was attacked. A conspiracy nut might think 6 dead Syrian soldiers sounds a lot like the price Russia and Trump would agree might throw people off the scent of their collusion. That nut might also wonder why if Russia knew the attack was coming they too didn't warn the six dead Syrians. Good thing I'm not a conspiracy nut.
  14. Actually to me I'd think the comparable would be "I won't have dinner alone with a black person" which would bring out pitchforks. I'm not sure why "I won't have dinner alone with women" largely gets eye-rolls. Racism = a blight on our civilization. Misogyny = a silly thing old white guys still do but probably shouldn't. LOLs. I know that wasn't your point though Levi; just how I see the situation.
  15. Also pretty amazing he made it to third with ease. Not only because he's faster than he looks, but also because he hustled the whole way. Plenty of guys slimmer and speedier than him would trot that out assuming it was either gone or a fly out.
  16. If we're talking about the Royals pitching it's spelled "piñata". And geez, I'm really regretting not coming up with that pun for the Twins pitchers sometime in the past half decade.
  17. When I looked earlier I only found the one quote and it was from 2012. But this is really all a matter of what lens is being used. Is this about morality (infidelity) or equality (mysogeny). Because if Pence said he didn't find it acceptable to be alone with his black coworkers, even the conservative publications would back away from him. Well not Brietbart, but at least most of them.
  18. I think few of us, or at least me, would have a problem if this was his own personal philosophy. And I might agree with you that it is probably a good one simply to protect yourself as a celebrity since it's easy to see the media snapping up some pics innocent or not and at minimum forcing you to explain yourself. However I do have a problem with the fact that pretty much every conservative site that defended him didn't do so based on the idea that he was protecting his image from unscrupulous media members but instead defended him by saying that he was right to avoid women because it's somehow immoral. Those judgmental scumbags can mind their own GD business. And I do disagree with Pence's tactic because while it protects him, it puts his female subordinates and compatriots at a considerable disadvantage to his male subordinates and compatriots when it comes to furthering their own personal goals.
  19. And if that had been the title of your thread you would have gotten nearly 100% positive feedback. Even Delmon Young would likely get defended against passive aggressive and unwarrented snark and ridicule. Mauer is anything but a sacred cow on this site.
  20. At this point it looks like there is an extremely concerted effort to alternate right-handed-possible batters and left-handed-possible batters. The league didn't make a new rule I'm not aware of did they?
  21. Not upset by it at all, but a lack of position flexibility now appears to be a bit of an issue going forward. After getting yanked around to disastrous results last year I understand why the team would only want Sano to focus on one position, but getting Kepler 1B reps perhaps should have been part of the game plan this spring. Or if not Kepler then Polanco or Escobar.
  22. I agree on the Escobar front. I'd just prefer his playing time came at the expense of Grossman or Mauer instead of Polanco. Though for it to come at the expense of Mauer either Polanco, Sano or Kepler have to start taking some 1B reps. And if it's Kepler playing 1B then Escobar is going to the OF which I'm not a huge fan of.
  23. Right basically if the lineup is constructed by the new analytically inclined front office my reaction is: "Awesome, we're doing something different!" If it came from Molitor my reaction is: "Ugh, not another season of these kinds of poor decisions!" Man, admitting one's own hypocrisy really eases the burden on your conscience!
  24. Just....just so weird. If Falvey came out and explained that there was some method to the madness I'd probably be behind it. Though to be fair, if Molitor was the one to come out and say the same thing I'd probably have tons of doubts.
  25. http://www.thedailybeast.com/cheats/2017/04/04/isis-calls-donald-trump-an-idiot.html?via=desktop&source=copyurl Great, so if ISIS is calling Trump " an idiot who does not know what Syria or Iraq or Islam is" I guess that makes ISIS...right? Awesome, thanks prez for making the terrorists appear to be the intelligent side.
