  1. Mejia always sounded like a guy they'd never part with; pretty surprising. I like how San Diego gave up their big trade chip in Hand but also tossed in another fringy but MLB ready player to get the prospect they wanted. If the Twins start moving parts I'm all for bundling some other parts to increase the haul.
  2. Had Kirilloff stayed healthy, Kepler might be nervously looking over his shoulder right about now!
  3. Gonsalves was always said to have decent control, still, at all levels he threw too many pitches. I'm putting my money (once again) on the belief that he's a nibbler and has always gotten the lower level guys to chase out of the zone which is how he racked up the strikeouts despite not having top end stuff. The AAA guys probably aren't chasing.
  4. I don't know why we'd expect a guy who can't stay healthy to suddenly get healthy at 36. Joe might go about his business in a professional manner and not get into trouble, but if he was actually a clubhouse leader who helped make an impact on the young guys, I doubt every free agent rumor we'd hear each off season would be about a corner/DH type who the team desperately wants for his leadership qualities.
  5. I didn't want Benintendi, but I do remember not wanting the Red Sox to get the guy they reportedly wanted. That desire was just instinct though. I was going to say that if the rumor is that the Red Sox really want a guy, you should probably draft that guy. But then I remember that the Red Sox also really wanted Trey Ball as well.
  6. Kirilloff and Graterol are just sneaking into the bottom of these lists now too. If the Twins traded those two for 2 and a half months of Machado we'd have some wildly different reactions going on here. I don't think it's about the rankings as much as it's about the helium at this point. I mean Gonsalves is still ranked 22 spots higher than Graterol on MLB's list. Maybe I'm on an island on this one, but I hand over Gonsalves long before I hand over Graterol. Looking at how the other Dodgers top prospects have performed this year, Diaz and May look really good.
  7. That list was a bit misleading, it wasn't really a ranking. The authors lumped all of the Twins together because they was getting hesitant about the Twins actually selling. Familia and Britton are ranked ahead of Brad Hand. Realmuto is ranked 16th. For some reason they are conflating "Top Trade Candidates" with "Most Likely to Get Traded". The title is misleading, most people would read that head line and think it's a ranking based on talent.
  8. I can say that having a third small child screaming and destroying the house makes it much more likely that Joe would NOT want to retire. Or, um, maybe I shouldn't say that actually. I love my kids!
  9. I'd guess both Diaz and May would be ranked higher now. Assuming Buehler has graduated their performances probably put them top five.
  10. Growing up whenever the Cubs failed at something (which was always) people did the old, "Aw shucks, those lovable losers did it to themselves again!" bit. But it seems since they lost the Steve (HE DID NOTHING WRONG!) Bartman game, anything that goes wrong for the Cubs is somebody else's fault. Had Cleveland won the 2016 WS I swear there would have been congressional hearings looking into how there was a conspiracy against the Cubs.
  11. Celebrations do nothing for me unless it's the end of a big game. But I'm all for my team's batters showing up the other team's pitcher if only to get in his head. And pitchers should be suspended for intentionally beaning a guy in retaliation. A true professional would suck it up compose himself and move on to the next batter. I'd like my team to take advantage of the pitchers who struggle to get over it. No different than Michael Jordan or John Randle trash talking to throw their opponents off of their game.
  12. Yeah, with Latroy, Justin and Torii he seems to both lob some easy opportunities for the recently former players to provide anecdotes and connect with the younger men. With Jack and Bert he alternates between catering to and needling the curmudgeons. It's gotten a bit stale.
  13. For your Lance Lynn you receive one Ricky Nolasco. Congrats.
  14. If that's the plan they better get him up to pitch on Friday against a terrible KC team, let him go against Toronto on Wednesday the 25th then thank our lucky stars that he misses the four game Boston series. But with his contract and his recent injury he's probably more likely a post August 1st waiver trade candidate.
  15. I think too many baseball fans would prefer baseball to be played the same way they've always watched it played and let it die with them as opposed to letting the game evolve into something different so it may continue after we're gone. MLB is looking a lot more like Sears than Amazon right now.
  16. That's what I meant to imply if it wasn't clear. If teams adapt to take advantage of the rules, the rules need to adapt to make the game more equitable.
  17. MLB is dragging it's feet on this for sure. Rules are sacred and shouldn't be tampered with and technology is bad and should be shunned. But then the teams are using the technology to take advantage of the rules or lack thereof. I love the history of baseball, but the sport isn't going to survive if it continues to treat every thought of change as an apocalyptic event. Change isn't good or bad, it's just inevitable. Fans will survive it if we get out in front of it and learn how to adapt our fandom. This is one thing the NFL has on MLB, they aren't shy about changing rules on a whim to make things quicker, safer, more fair or more watchable. Sometimes they work, sometimes they don't, but then they're not shy about changing them back either.
  18. How much are the Red Sox paying Fernando Tatis to manage their DR team? If he has truly been a good influence on Sano and is a good mentor the Twins should offer him double and find a spot for him in Ft. Myers. I can't imagine DR managers make all that much.
  19. I fully endorse watching benches clear over Pizza Ranch ads.
  20. So can the relievers take the new BP carts the no one use out to a skirmish?
  21. Doesn't look like Chris Archer wants to be a Twin after all.
  22. Because the Twins *might* be paying a guy more than they have to? Maybe I'm missing the shenanigans, but this seems more honorable than optioning him with no possible auxiliary benefit to the club.
  23. Just automate the strike zone already; it would open up many more possibilities for offensively productive guys to catch. When you're down to only a half a dozen or so guys at a position league-wide who are regularly average with the bat, you're not far away from talking about adding a second DH.
