  1. I'm sure the Angels feel that their only chance at keeping Ohtani is by making a long-shot playoff run. It seems like they're throwing away the future for an improbability, but without Ohtani, there probably isn't much of a future regardless of the prospects.
  2. No one was picking Fried in the top five. Appel was the near consensus top player, but once the Astros and Twins went with HS kids, he fell because everyone knew he was going to require #1 money to sign. So the Twins dodged the landmine that should have been the obvious choice by skipping him. Giolito would have been a contender to go #1 but he wasn't pitching due to a UCL sprain. This organization seems to get dragged over the coals already for disregarding UCL issues.
  3. Moncada got crushed worse than Max Kepler after 2019 de-juicing. He was supposed to be the big power threat that would also strike out a ton. Then the ball stopped flying off his bat but he still struck out a ton.
  4. I guess I don't get all the Lane Thomas hype. He's hit well most of this year, but for his career, he's really average, yet I see people talking about giving up Wallner for him? Wallner already looks like he could be the better player, yet Thomas would be getting the short end of whomever he's platooning with. I'm not giving up anything of use for a platoon guy who's starting twice a week. And for anyone thinking his early 2023 season is an omen of things to come and not an outlier of an otherwise nondescript career, his OPS is back below .700 this month; it already looks like he's reverting to his career norms.
  5. Emmanual Rodriguez and Walker Jenkins? I don't see it at all. Looks more like Jose Salas and Devid Festa to me.
  6. Yeah, underwhelmed to say the least with what the White Sox go back. If the Twins traded Sonny Gray for both of those guys, the pitchforks would be out, and rightfully so.
  7. Hopefully Chicago's next rebuild goes as successfully as their last one. Man, they got so many high end prospects the last time they tore it down and none of them clicked at the same time. Now, the only long term pieces they have from that era is Luis Robert and an Eloy Jimenez who barely plays in the field any more and is probably a two month slump away from not having his option picked up. The Twins were the most obvious losers of that ball de-juicing after the 2019 season, but that was clearly the same kind of roster the White Sox were going for when they traded for all of those extremely high ranked prospects.
  8. Seems like a class move by the Twins. And whether it ends up being a good move, a calculated move or a bad move, don’t underestimate the message this is sending out to players currently on other teams.
  9. Well, they did fail to hit homeruns in six of their nine at bats today......
  10. Topa was a righty, why didn't reigning AL player of the week Kirilloff pinch hit instead?
  11. If the other guys are polished, then I don't want more of that.
  12. So Wallner is my favorite OF now? That happened fast.
  13. I'd rather they were throwing pitches to the Royals too.
  14. I think it's a dumb move by SD but I get it. They made an all in push a couple of years ago, I'd guess that next year is the last year before they have to finally fold and tear it all apart. You'd think they might move these rental guys for players who can help next year and in the future, but 5.5 games back isn't a huge deficit if a team ends up getting hot, especially if they're chasing unexpected clubs like AZ, CIN, MIA and SF. AZ is already starting to fall apart, someone's going to take their spot in the playoffs for sure.
  15. He'll get more for sure, but probably the same ballpark. Prior to last year, most people saw Herbert as the better QB. Also, I'm so very jealous. We need one of those.
  16. I'm also in the crowd of not needing a relief arm, but I could see them going after Robertson. The alternate options listed I'd think are unlikely though. The last several years the Twins have quietly built a bullpen that limits walks and keeps the ball on the ground, which is surely a large reason for the late inning infield defensive replacements. I would guess they'd have next to no interest in Hand or Hicks. Especially Hicks. Maybe they'd be interested in Raley, but he is a flyball pitcher.
  17. Yup, looks like my math was wrong. 2.5 games back. Still, I don't think the Red Sox dumping a guy who has a .599 OPS has anything to do with 'selling'. Seems like he'd be a DFA candidate. He was terrible last year too.
  18. A strong BB% is one of the best indicators for a high floor. Things are going well now, but he'd be my first choice for the next opening at the MLB level. This team's success has largely been built on the strong on base skills of Kirilloff, Julien, Jeffers and Wallner. I'll take more of that.
  19. Ten K's last game against Kirby, who doesn't strike many batters out. See if the Twins can keep the Nolan Ryan comparisons to a minimum today.
  20. The Red Sox are sitting in the final playoff spot, I don't think they're throwing in the towel, just throwing out a player that's not very good any more, who for some reason has the interest of another team that is willing to help the Red Sox cut their losses. The Twins need to stay far away from this type of player. Taking a roster spot from a more deserving player just to give it to a guy who used to have some name cache seems like it wouldn't do well for clubhouse morale.
