I don't care about outfielders and I don't care about August and September of 2023. This team does not need more Ramon Laureano's. Taylor, Gallo, Castro, Farmer, Solano, Luplow. There's never been a championship team that has had 46-54% of their offensive players a breath away from being DFA'd. Laureano will NOT improve this team's chances at winning the World Series. This has to be amongst the worst constructed rosters this organization has ever put together because they insanely thought they could get by with platooning half of the lineup. They need higher ceiling players and they should be rostering, and auditioning as many of the in house options as they have right now so they don't end up doing the exact same thing in 2024. That's the reality.

There are way more than a half dozen player in AAA and AA that have higher upside than Laureano. Who's been better this year? The vets from other teams this club keeps sticking in the lineup? Or the guys they've been calling up? It's not even close.

Dissecting Dallas Keuchel
nicksaviking replied to NeverSeenATwinsPlayoffWin's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
The rest of the rotation is fly ball pitchers. If Keuchel's 60% GB rate is going to influence the Twins to regularly keep Julien and Polanco out of the lineup in favor of better defenders like Farmer and Castro, then they'll be sacrificing offense to justify his spot in the rotation. -
Why? This guy is more of an offensive black hole than Taylor. I just don't understand why the front office an fans are so interested in other team's cast offs who are unlikely to be any better than the half dozen players they could call up from AAA or AA who are already under contract.

Max Kepler isn't good at anything anymore
nicksaviking replied to Brock Beauchamp's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
I trust this 'new' Max Kepler about as much as I trusted April Joey Gallo. A month and a half of good hitting isn't going to make me forget about being disappointed in him for six of his last seven seasons. I obviously hope he keeps hitting well, but if the front office is fooled into thinking that a 30-year-old is suddenly going to turn his career around, then they haven't been paying attention to how baseball works. -
Joey Gallo’s Last Stand
nicksaviking replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
The number or players this organization continues to employ, who can't get a MLB deal the following year is stunning. Sano, Bundy, Archer, Sanchez, Leon, Hamilton, Duffey, Cotton and Joe Smith were just last year alone. Seven of those nine players were guys they signed as free agents or traded for JUST THAT YEAR! Either they have illogical expectations that aging vets will turn things around, or they are blind to the need of creating a roster that has a higher offensive ceiling. The continued reliance on these types of players, when the rest of the league is going with the younger, higher upside and cheaper internal players is exasperating.- 39 replies

Joey Gallo’s Last Stand
nicksaviking replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Kepler can. Chris Williams does. They've put Anthony Prato at 1B before. Heck, even Kyle Garlick has been playing 1B lately.- 39 replies

Things are not well on the South Side of Chicago
nicksaviking replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Other Baseball
Williams and Hahn have been in Chicago for decades now. Obviously they've been flipping between managers the last couple of years, but it's crazy to think they don't have any oversight into the day-to-day activities in the clubhouse. Of course, hyperbole from disgruntled former players is nothing new, so we probably shouldn't take Middleton's word as gospel. On the other hand, any observer can see that the White Sox have been an utter mess the last couple of years. -
Are the Front Office's Jobs Secure?
nicksaviking replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Yes, this has long been my take. I don't know why we look at these two as doing the same job just because they came on board in the same off season. Presumably Levine, who is the GM after all, is the one in charge of free agency, trades and roster moves, while Falvey is the architect in charge of implementing and modernizing the process of running a baseball team. If this is accurate, Levine should be gone first, or long ago. Falvey could be gone, but mainly for being culpable in allowing Levine's poor roster management to continue to derail this club.- 79 replies

Dissecting Dallas Keuchel
nicksaviking replied to NeverSeenATwinsPlayoffWin's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
I'm more concerned with winning baseball games than throwing a bone to a guy with declining stuff. I really don't want Keuchel in the rotation, we've seen this smoke and mirrors approach get absolutely destroyed in recent years. This isn't old school baseball anymore where a crafty vet with no velocity can out-duel the opposing team with his years of experience. The other team is using computers now; those have a better memory and predictive power than the crafty vet's brain. The Twins have had problems with this type of pitcher recently too. If they have a couple of decent outings, they give these vets an unreasonably long leash. This could easily turn into a Dylan Bundy or J.A. Happ situation. -
Joey Gallo’s Last Stand
nicksaviking replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I'm really not trying to rip the front office, but with Sano getting no interest and the all-or-nothing approach at the plate fading a bit in popularity league-wide, I had assumed Gallo would be a target for a MiLB deal with a spring training invite this PAST off season.- 39 replies

Twins Claim Outfielder Jordan Luplow
nicksaviking replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Wow. This club is really going out of its way to not call up Prato, Williams, Severino or Lee. -
Sorry, but I would NOT have been satisfied with a low wattage move or two. They need an elite bat, that can hit righties and lefties, for the middle of the lineup. Anything else would just be a band aid necessitated because of a terribly constructed roster aimed at “depth” and defense, sacrificing needed chances for a higher offensive ceiling. This front office has been very aggressive. This is abnormal for them. My guess is still that ownership told them no, they’ve made enough poor decisions and now they sleep in the bed they made. They’re not giving up the next GM’s equity so these guys can try to fix their own mess.

Rumor: MLBTR Twins Rumor Roundup
nicksaviking replied to Brock Beauchamp's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
He seems to be whom lots of people wanted last year. Which probably speaks more to the expectations everyone should have for this caliber of player. -
I have no interest in any of these platoon righties, but I understand why others do. I'm just really, really frustrated that this team keeps looking at below average veteran bats to jam onto the roster. If you need two players for half of your positions because neither hits same sided pitching well enough, you've done a terrible and inefficient job of building a 26-man roster. I'd rather they just stop, wipe the slate clean of these vets in the offseason, give the young guys practice at hitting same side pitching and see if you can build an actual functioning regular lineup from there.

Rumor: MLBTR Twins Rumor Roundup
nicksaviking replied to Brock Beauchamp's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
When Kepler is gone, I think RF will be a great spot for Wallner, just like Cuddyer. Learn the nuances of that wall and anyone can play RF in Target Field. It's really small comparatively to other stadiums. -
Gray's not looking so hot lately, and he won't be here next year. Maybe you could trade Gray to recoup much of the prospect loss the team would give up for another controllable starter like Eduardo Rodriguez. Still, I think the front office has been told they aren't allowed to make any more major moves.

3 Trades the Twins Must Make Today
nicksaviking replied to Jamie Cameron's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Fulmer was a rental player. Hernandez and Finnegan have many years of control, they'll probably require closer to the Mahle deal than the Fulmer deal. And really, the Royals are already starting a lineup made up largely of players they probably think are part of their long term future. Hernandez is quite possibly part of their long term plan as well. -
3 Trades the Twins Must Make Today
nicksaviking replied to Jamie Cameron's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
The only trade the Red Sox made was a guy they were almost certainly going to DFA. I don't think they're sellers. I also don't think the Mets trade controllable players unless it's a really stupid offer by the buying club. Hernandez and Finnegan will surely be too expensive. It's been my guess for awhile now that ownership has already told the front office that they've already squandered all of their magic wishes and they'll get no more. They need to ride or die with the thus far unfruitful decisions they've already committed to. -
Rumor: MLBTR Twins Rumor Roundup
nicksaviking replied to Brock Beauchamp's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
I agree, but I'd call up Keirsey straight from AA instead of Stevenson. Unless this team thinks Buxton or Lewis is going to be playing CF next season, they need to start having internal auditions for next year or they're going to be in the exact same position they were last off season. The free agent CF options are flat out awful after you get past Bellinger, who is a year-to-year wild card and probably going to command more than he should. -
Video: Twins Swept; Yunior Severino Surges
nicksaviking replied to Tom Froemming's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Why is it so hard to escape Wichita? Does the club have an agreement with the new affiliate that they'll make the good players linger there longer than the other stops? Severino, Lee, Keirsey and Isola should be in St. Paul prepping to help the big club.- 1 reply
