  1. Odorizzi is out. Hill would need an opener. Or just be glad if he opens and gives you 3-4. May IS the guy you want if you want a strikeout. But he can also be very very bad. And one batter pitchers no longer exist, unless it is inning ending. Who's not going to be here in 2021. Clippard? It makes the Twins bullpen strong. Along with three solid starters in Pineda, Madea and Berrios. Dobnak is the dark horse. Wisler is valuable as he can pitch mroe than one inning, something that we are also seeing in Alcala.
  2. Hill and Bailey. Bailey might be an option if he signs again at a lower rate. Romo gets his option picked up. Clippard walks. May is the BIG question. I always wanted him to perform well enough to be the closer. But not seeing it happen. In that case, it would be a 4-5 year job. But no. Being replaced by Stashak, Littell or Alcala has now happened. Odorizzi will have a tough off season. Someone MIGHT offer him a multi-year deal if he gets 3 more starts with the Twins. Otherwise, talk about a career collapse. You look at replacements for free agents. The Twins can replace Adrianza with Gordon fer sure. Except that it would be nice to see Gordon actually play against major league pitching. Gonzalez will price himself out of the Twins. He's not Gonzalez, but Astudillo can play multiple positions and catch. Not saying its the same, but it is a choice. Cruz isn't asking for the world. The Twins should pay it. Avilla is a nice veteran presence. Do you want more seasoning for Jeffers? The biggest question is Rosario. Can Rooker play the outfield? And also wonder what to do with guys on the fringe like Wade and Cave. Also, who do the Twins have to protect in what could be a highly interesting Rule 5 draft.
  3. Jorge Alcala's fastball. Trevor May is FANTASTIC or HORRID. \ Maeda just...PITCHES!
  4. Outfield is such a big question. You have at least three top prospects looking for play. You can switch people to first, if need be (assuming you make Sano, then, the DH). How long do you wait before advancing the future?
  5. I'm sad about Littell. Was expecting him to be a foundation for the bullpen future. Of course, he is still very young. I just don't know the path for Trevor May. I thought of him as closer potential. But it will all boil down to contract talks.
  6. I hope the Twins switch to an opener if and when Odorizzi pitches, and probably should do the same with Rich Hill.
  7. No need to trade. It is an odd ball season anyway. Be said if the Twins don't make some level of the playoff. That is when the real play begins.
  8. I would definitely look at tradeable bodies for the rotation that are good and available for longer than this season. if they exist. The Twins will be without Hill, Bailey and Odorizzi come next year (as well as May and Clippard) You can put hope on Thorpe and Smeltzer. You also should SIGN May as soon as possible!
  9. You still need roster space on the 40-man in the end. And more than likely, some teams will try salary dumps. I guess the question is "how important overall is a playoff run for a team this season." The ways things are set up, you can be the best 60-game team and you'll be eliminated early in the playoffs from some fluke or just a bad game day.
  10. Blankenhorn or Gordon instead of a reserve guy from the Diamondbacks. The pitching lineup of this game made little sense. Where were the two inning+ bullpen arms of the Twins? Rogers into a tie game where you will need a pitcher anyways for the 9th or beyond. Now the "good" arms of the bullpen are ALL pretty shot for the next game.
  11. Remember last season where the Twins hardly ever lost more than two in a row!
  12. Always trade for prospects. If another team feels he is worthwhile to longterm. I think the Twins might be able to do a 3-year deal with Trevor May.
  13. I am actually surprised that didn't go aheda and add another 20 players to this pool, like the AAA/AA roster guys, to be the opposing team so they could actually play games and not wear each other oput. I imagine the field will be closed to fans. Wonder if they have housing available for players, or are they on their own for two months at St. Paul/Minneapolis prices. You'd think they could just take over a mid-level hotel for a couple of months.
  14. Sano probably delayed, so who is on first. Garver? Gonzalez? Maybe should be trying Kepler there!
  15. I am surp[rised that they can't, basically, field another 20 players to be an opposing team for those at the camp. Just so players keep their skill set. Play six inning games every day. The guys would also be eligible, in a pinch, to be added if rules allow. But would be nice to have some simulated games. Galtier Plaza has lots of empty apartments. Could house players there.
  16. Maybe the Twins can use openers for a couple of the rotation arms, to keep the guys fresh who might be replacing Odorizzi and Hill and Bailey come 2021. Just saying. Some-tag teams for the first couple of weeks. Then a strong bullpen.
  17. Really can see fans in the stands...like 25-40% capacity, if need be. Taxi squad is interesting. I hope the Twins can also have a camp, of sorts, for minor league players to play 30-45 games at Ft. Myers. You can house how many players there? Just for the skill set needs, I think they would welcome play while staying quarantined...kinda like summer camp!
  18. Well, games have to basically be free. Once people experience summer months (days) without baseball, it will be harder to egt them to sit in front of the television, no matter how much they miss the game. Unless we go into stay-in-place lockdown bnigtime. Also, if the stadiums were open to say 25% capacity, not sure how much people will want to pay to go to a place where they could possiblyu become sick and not party with others in some ways (not necessarily aprty, but interact, so to speak). I still see the biggest issue for audience events is sanitation (rest room facilities) and food service/concessions (shared surface, state of people working, etc.). Yes, if you open stadiums you have to police seating somehow. But still unsure how much people will pay to watch a game live. Man, it will be a different feel in sparse (empty) stadiums. Can baseball unite? I just wonder if sports in general, kids playing soccer or baseball, town ball, whatever, can keep the interest going. Heaven only knows how football will react. Man, how do you get people into movie theaters ever again and are live concerts or theatre dead?
  19. Every team will be in the same boat. And money will be tight, not knowing what 2021 will bring. I feel worse for players in the pipeline losing a year in their development life. Still wonder how minor league play will play into this whole televised season thing. I doubt that places like Rohcester and Chattanooga will be hotbeds of baseball. Minor league travel is worse than major league travel. Might be best to do just a couple of 3-4 week seasons. Kinda like Cape Cod league or something.
  20. You got 'em. Maybe some considertion to Jack Kralick. Johnny Klippstein was a workhorse. Tom Hall ends the decade and starts the next...will he get lost in the shuffle?
  21. I feel bad for the careers going forth of most minor league free agents. I wonder how the minor league rosters would fill out, and the need for short-schedule ball at Eliz and GCL. Maybe jsut keep players downm there playing in-house games and see Eliz disappear a season early. All the Twins propsects will need playing time in the minors and since most (especially pitchers) seldom play a full season of hard ball, this aprtial season would be great for them.
  22. I could see putting the emphasis on playing teams primarily in your division, partly for travel costs and also competition. Slkip interleague play. Just go for the sake of playing baseball. Money is still going to be a major issue. I'm wondering how the minor leagues will respond. I picture, with short seasons, that there will basically be jobs for in-organization prospects - the real future of a team. Lots of fringe players will end their careers this season.
  23. It's going to still be hard to get crowds out for events. Baseball does have the television and radio audience that will help generate revenue, but how they handle things like concessions will be the diffcult aspect of the game. Also, until people do get it...and they will continue to get it, what happens if a teammate gets the virus? Until you can test people automatically and get results, it is truly day-to-day. The interactions of anyone comes in question and becomes a five degrees of separation issue.
  24. This is the Buxton year. You either longterm him or trade him. That being said, if you need anyone to play centerfield because of a Buxton injury, you look at Celestino or Lewis NOW. Not Cave, not movbing Kepler...but the potential future. You can take the hit of one weak bat in the order to see if Buxton is the need longterm or if you have the pieces to go in a different direction. Not sure if the Twins a low-balling a Buxton contract too much, or Buxton just wants to wait it out. But that decision can be moot if you have comnparable players coming up to replace the current holder.
  25. The Twins have to make decisions on Buxton and Rosario, yet looks like they also have choices. It is all in the hands of the players. Arraez's play at second will determine the future of Lewis. Gordon and Rooker are actually luxury items that might need a small major league showcase to make them trade bait. But we also have to remember that the Twins may have the DH spot opening in 2021. The Twins have some nice depth. Even with the contracts they have on Polanco, Sano and Kepler, they could easily move those guys if push came to shove. The bigger question is keeping Berrios in the mix forever or not. Nice arms, many that we haven't talked BIG about, in the wings.
