  1. The Twins have A LOT of salary coming off the books. Approx $42 million from Odorizzi, Gonzalez, Avila, Hill, Bailey, Adrianza. Another $22 million from Cruz, May, Clippard and Romo. Believe they are pretty arbitration light, especially if Rosario no longer plays into the plans. They could use a DH (Cruz), a couple of relief arms (two are entering free agency). A solid starter (they have the money). And some backup help in the infield. Of course, in 2019 dollars, 2020 was a pretty high-level mark for Twins payroll.
  2. The bullpen isn't broke. But you have to think of using it as if you truly only have you regular amount of pitchers. You have Odorizzi and Dobnak for a reason. We have to rethink baseball and who pitches the 7th and 8th innings and who setsup and closes. With the three batter rule, you just can't do a quickie switch anymore. You also have to look at use. Why wasn't Duffy pitching on Sunday, for example, getting a little time before THE BIGGEST GAMES OF THEA YEAR. You have more left/right usage than ever this season. Yes, us armchair managers always complain that you leave someone in one batter too long. Or start the inning with the wrong pitcher. But.....
  3. Romo is NOT the closer. You have the lefty pitch the seventh (Thielbar) and maybe comeback with a lefty again in the 9th. I guess the hitters didn't watch the tapes. Where were they this afternoon?
  4. I wish I knew if any of these guys would work better with an opener, so to speak. I would like to tagteam these starters. Two innings from one, maybe three from another.,..than the bullpen. But can they pitch if they don't start the actual game?
  5. I wonder what his perfect location in a lineup would be. How many pitches does he average in an at-bat is a concern. Also, overall, the Twins seem to be fielding better than average. Do we like him and Polanco up the middle. Is there a future for him as a Twin? What do we do with Lewis and the haord of other shortstops in the wings?
  6. How can the Twins better construct their lineup. Why are Kepler and Donaldson batting first and second?
  7. The ball is not lodged until he grabs it and cannot easily removes it!
  8. You always run into issues with a lefty closer. We see the Rogers can be lights out if he doesn't work consecutive days, has proper warmup and full use of his pitches. Although as fans it boggles our mind that a player isn't at their best each and every day at work, we only have to look in the mirror and know we all have off days. Some guys dominate for a season or three. The rare ones make a career as a closer. The Twins have a couple of prime candidates for future closer. Alcala seems lights out. Stashak is interesting. I always felt May would be the guy, but at this point I probably wouldn't gamble on a hefty multi-year deal to keep him, thus he will probably walk. The bullpen ahs been a strength, and if there had been a solid minor league year, the Twins would be looking at adding number of arms next season, beginning with Samuel Clay.
  9. The Twins need to get a solid lineup in place. The right bats in the right order. Bullpen is amazingly astonishing. Too many arms. They have three BIG starters and a solid fourth and up to three others (who won't be back in 2021).
  10. Odorizzi is out. Hill would need an opener. Or just be glad if he opens and gives you 3-4. May IS the guy you want if you want a strikeout. But he can also be very very bad. And one batter pitchers no longer exist, unless it is inning ending. Who's not going to be here in 2021. Clippard? It makes the Twins bullpen strong. Along with three solid starters in Pineda, Madea and Berrios. Dobnak is the dark horse. Wisler is valuable as he can pitch mroe than one inning, something that we are also seeing in Alcala.
  11. Hill and Bailey. Bailey might be an option if he signs again at a lower rate. Romo gets his option picked up. Clippard walks. May is the BIG question. I always wanted him to perform well enough to be the closer. But not seeing it happen. In that case, it would be a 4-5 year job. But no. Being replaced by Stashak, Littell or Alcala has now happened. Odorizzi will have a tough off season. Someone MIGHT offer him a multi-year deal if he gets 3 more starts with the Twins. Otherwise, talk about a career collapse. You look at replacements for free agents. The Twins can replace Adrianza with Gordon fer sure. Except that it would be nice to see Gordon actually play against major league pitching. Gonzalez will price himself out of the Twins. He's not Gonzalez, but Astudillo can play multiple positions and catch. Not saying its the same, but it is a choice. Cruz isn't asking for the world. The Twins should pay it. Avilla is a nice veteran presence. Do you want more seasoning for Jeffers? The biggest question is Rosario. Can Rooker play the outfield? And also wonder what to do with guys on the fringe like Wade and Cave. Also, who do the Twins have to protect in what could be a highly interesting Rule 5 draft.
  12. Jorge Alcala's fastball. Trevor May is FANTASTIC or HORRID. \ Maeda just...PITCHES!
  13. Outfield is such a big question. You have at least three top prospects looking for play. You can switch people to first, if need be (assuming you make Sano, then, the DH). How long do you wait before advancing the future?
  14. I'm sad about Littell. Was expecting him to be a foundation for the bullpen future. Of course, he is still very young. I just don't know the path for Trevor May. I thought of him as closer potential. But it will all boil down to contract talks.
  15. I hope the Twins switch to an opener if and when Odorizzi pitches, and probably should do the same with Rich Hill.
  16. No need to trade. It is an odd ball season anyway. Be said if the Twins don't make some level of the playoff. That is when the real play begins.
  17. I would definitely look at tradeable bodies for the rotation that are good and available for longer than this season. if they exist. The Twins will be without Hill, Bailey and Odorizzi come next year (as well as May and Clippard) You can put hope on Thorpe and Smeltzer. You also should SIGN May as soon as possible!
  18. You still need roster space on the 40-man in the end. And more than likely, some teams will try salary dumps. I guess the question is "how important overall is a playoff run for a team this season." The ways things are set up, you can be the best 60-game team and you'll be eliminated early in the playoffs from some fluke or just a bad game day.
  19. Blankenhorn or Gordon instead of a reserve guy from the Diamondbacks. The pitching lineup of this game made little sense. Where were the two inning+ bullpen arms of the Twins? Rogers into a tie game where you will need a pitcher anyways for the 9th or beyond. Now the "good" arms of the bullpen are ALL pretty shot for the next game.
  20. Remember last season where the Twins hardly ever lost more than two in a row!
  21. Always trade for prospects. If another team feels he is worthwhile to longterm. I think the Twins might be able to do a 3-year deal with Trevor May.
  22. I am actually surprised that didn't go aheda and add another 20 players to this pool, like the AAA/AA roster guys, to be the opposing team so they could actually play games and not wear each other oput. I imagine the field will be closed to fans. Wonder if they have housing available for players, or are they on their own for two months at St. Paul/Minneapolis prices. You'd think they could just take over a mid-level hotel for a couple of months.
  23. Sano probably delayed, so who is on first. Garver? Gonzalez? Maybe should be trying Kepler there!
  24. I am surp[rised that they can't, basically, field another 20 players to be an opposing team for those at the camp. Just so players keep their skill set. Play six inning games every day. The guys would also be eligible, in a pinch, to be added if rules allow. But would be nice to have some simulated games. Galtier Plaza has lots of empty apartments. Could house players there.
  25. Maybe the Twins can use openers for a couple of the rotation arms, to keep the guys fresh who might be replacing Odorizzi and Hill and Bailey come 2021. Just saying. Some-tag teams for the first couple of weeks. Then a strong bullpen.
