  1. I don't like Topa coming in with traffic on the bases and too many outs to get. He did a good job at stranding inherited runners in 2023, but not so much in 2025; the only two years he's pitched any significant number of innings. One of those years is an outlier. If his WHIP is going to be in the 1.4 range, or even the career average of 1.33, coming in with runners already on and needing 3 outs is going to be cutting it close too much of the time. Better if he came in with at least one out already accounted for.
  2. It happens, occasionally, that young pitchers come up and prove to be untouchable, especially in their first few outings. A few will prove able to adjust to the league as fast as the league adjusts to them. The Twins, however, will need this to happen far more often than can be reasonably expected this year if they are going to be even remotely competitive. What really troubles me is the fear that the Twins won't score enough runs for the bullpen to matter at all.
  3. In considering his place amongst the hitters, it's even more impressive that he's reached those numbers against today's pitchers. What kind of monster might he have been in previous eras?
  4. Fun article, but.... With runners on 2nd, 2nd+3rd, or just 3rd (particularly the last 2 scenarios) Larnach has been the guy I want at bat. He is a bit of a clutch hitter.
  5. If their interest in Castellano is real and they see a future for him, I would think that they might let minor league options and inevitable injuries play out.
  6. Are they actually tickets, or a list of ticket holders at the door? I'm trying to treat my daughter to the show, but don't how the tickets I bought work for her.
  7. I think in all of the talk about the game not appealing to younger people that the real reason for that is mostly overlooked and no changes to the game are likely to fix the problem. We diehards grew up playing baseball on sandlots, back yards, pastures or wherever and whenever we could find space and gather a few friends. Todays young people grow up playing video games and never develop a love for the game of baseball.
  8. Lewis to 1st is an interesting option. I hadn't considered that, but now that I am I like it more than putting Miranda there. Good enough glove and his bat plays there. Lee to 3rd...OK, assuming he is the Lee from early in the season. 2nd would need someone. Is there anyone in the system we would want to see there every day?
  9. Am I mistaken in that Larnach is playing with a foot injury? Is it possible they might delay the decision on who to move by placing him on the IL to let the foot recover?
  10. I remember him hitting 2 walk off home runs in the same at bat and even then needing the home plate umpire to overrule the first base ump who blew it twice by calling both balls foul.
  11. Also I wanted to say, off topic a bit, that I have been a baseball fan since before the Twins came to Minnesota, Milwaukie Braves back then, and I really wish....well never mind. But I do really love and appreciate those of you who dig into stats and facts that I'm too lazy to work out anymore. Could have used you 60 plus years ago, but even now I can't thank you enough for the enlightenment. Please keep it up.
  12. Does anyone else remember the home run Ortiz hit basically one handed after breaking his wrist earlier in the game?
  13. I would love to hear Doug in the booth. Can't help but wonder how many would feel compelled to tune out a half hour into the game though.
  14. I always liked Radke. Just thought he would have won even more games on usually sub standard teams if he had been just a bit wilder - even if on purpose. He had good stuff, but hitters could count on him being in or close to the strike zone. Them being not quite so comfortable in the box would have benefitted him.
  15. Probably be better if it was an inning or two as it would be easier for them. Less prep. We still get different voices, they get less performance anxiety.
  16. Looking over the roster it would appear the Twins have too many pitchers and too few options. I wonder if some of them may get packaged for something else they need.
  17. Has anyone looked into whether starters or relievers blow out their elbows more frequently? Would the additional innings strengthen the UCL or simply wear it to an early breakdown?
  18. Do I remember correctly that Carew and Tovar stole their way around the bases with both scoring on steals of home?
  19. Bats tended to last a while but balls were hard to come by and tended not to hold up well in March when they inevitably got wet, so we used to coat them with Johnsons Paste Wax to make them considerably more water worthy. For pick up games on the farm we also kept a good retriever on hand to help find balls that got into long grass and seemed to disappear. It never took my dog long to bring them back into play.
