  1. 1B, like every other position on the team with the possible exception of LF, is a position up for grabs in 2019. This is not a playoff team, as set, in 2019. I would offer Joe the position for 2019 if this was a playoff contender. They have done nothing this year to show that 2019 will be the year so why plan on Joe as the firstbaseman? He won't be there 2, 3 or 4 years from now when this team is more likely to be a playoff contender. So for next year why not start with Austin or someone else there? I would have liked Sano, Buxton, Polanco or Kepler to supprt their claim on a position, but for this year anyway only Rosario has laid claim to a position, be it Lf or Rf.
  2. I would look for Arreaz at second base next year.
  3. Luis Arreaz seems to be one of those guys overlooked by the fans. Next year he should at least start at Rochester and won't turn 22 until after the year starts. He finished hitting over 300 again with a 360 OBP. For his career he's at 329 with an obp over 380 and OPS at near 800. It doesn't look like he'll ever be a home run hitter or great base stealer. I could see him hitting second with his good obp and excellant contact as his career minor league strikeout rate is only 8.5% Maybe somebody for the big boppers to drive in. He seems to adjust quickly to each level he plays at and avoid prolonged slumps. As a second baseman he committed only 2 errors this year and played shortstop and thirdbase as well.
  4. I'm for it. However, I would skip a couple of starts for both Berrios and Gibson into the schedule. Berrios especially has looked a little ragged recently. It wouldn't be the first time a starter got a rotation day off. You could also schedule a relief pitcher only day once a week or so. I would leave Hildenberger out of this and let him gets some rest.
  5. Reading this article made me look back 2 years ago when we dreamed of being on the verge of building a dominant bullpen from hard throwing minor league arms. That wave never arrived and we don't really seem to have a next wave of arms to build on. Hopefully Moya, Busenitz and McGill can be regular contributors next year. I am not sure anyone will confuse this group with those you've named above to be a totally dominant pen.
  6. I'm also not n a big hurry to pull him from his role as a starter and move him to the bullpen. He may wind up there and be dominant, but I leave him as a starter as long as possible.
  7. I thought about Wells but wasn't sure he had enough double A time yet.
  8. I might jump down to Chattanooga to look at a few pitchers. Vasquez for one, then Stashak for another. I also wonder how Poppen would do.
  9. Trade him. I believe the Twins original thought was to showcase him in the hopes of trading him.
  10. Let him stay a Rochester for the rest of their season. The Twins aren't going anywhere this season. When Rochester's season is over, bring him up. He needs all the playing time he can get this year.
  11. I hope the Twins find a way to acquire additional international money and spend more in that area.
  12. I can't say I'm too impressed with the overall records of the minors this year especially at the upper levels, but there have been some great performances by key individuals. This is probably more important to the Twins future than minor league won/loss records. I agree that Romero might be running out of steam. I was hoping to see him a bit more in Minnesota this year.
  13. Arraez seems to be figuring out AA with a 325 avg and 387 OBP with just 2 strikeouts in is last 10 games. To this point in his career he's not a slugger, but their should be a spot for a player who just hits at every level with a high on base percent and minimal strikeouts. Additionally he has committed just 2 errors at second base this year.
  14. With only 6 walks allowed in 60 innings, I hope someone can teach Jax some control soon. Over his last 5 starts he has averaged better than a strikeout per inning.
  15. Moliter came to the job with no managment experience. Moliter is not a bad manager but he is the wrong manager for the current situation. Looking at it as a fan, to me Moliter always looked like someone who wanted an experienced veteran laden team. He didn't seem comfortable inserting young players and rookies into the lineup and letting them make their mistakes. The front office has made it very apparent they plan to develop and add even more youth to the roster. If anything, going forward this team will have even more inexperienced young players and rookies getting incorporated into the team. They need a manager and coaches in step with this or they are never going to develop a consistently winning team.
  16. Dozier best value is probably just to plug what would otherwise be a hole at second base. He probably has no real trade value. He certainly isn't a cleanup hitter, but then who on the team is doing well enough to push him out of that spot?
  17. Not looking good so far. But they have 50 games or so to work on regaining his swing at the major lague level. This would give them a better determination of offseason needs.
  18. I expected to see Escobar traded, but if this is the best we can get I don't hold much hope out for the trade prospects of our other short term assets. I really would not want to trade Gibson or Pressly since we have another year left with them, although I recognize our return could be greater. Amazing that we couldn't even break into another teams top 10 prospects. So disappointing.
  19. I would not want to see the Twins sign or trade for a veteran player that would take playing time away from a prospect less than a year away from the majors. Don't give Moliter that temptation. In spite of the play and the record, my biggest disappointment in the team this year is that not a single every day or pitching prospect has earned their chops at the major league level. True, the everyday prospect options were not great, but their seemed to be plenty of pitching options that should have allowed at least 1 starter and 2 relievers making an impact. There was Romero somewhat. Here's a thought. Sano, Buxton, Kepler, Rosario and Polance were all getting some playing time at the major league level in 2015. This is the 4th season since than. If our next wave doesn't start hitting the bigs until 2020 and take 3-4 years to become impact players, Buxton and Sano, et al, will be nine-ten year veterans.
  20. I agree that a 2018 return to Minnesota shouldn't be a major concern. To me everything should be geared towards a productive 2019. Sano was having difficulty with sliders when he went down and I do think that Triple A pitchers have better breaking pitches and thus will provide a bigger challenge.
  21. Notes on Gonzalvez last game - not intended for scouting purposes. He always pitches from stretch. His front leg sometimes kicks behind him, sometimes in front of him sometimes behind him that looks sorta like winding up from the stretch position. If you can imagine that. His stride is shorter with runners on base, which seems to give him better control and h steps more directly towards the plate. Each walk had 2-3 high pitches, probably fastballs. Very few curves thrown, although frequently in the dirt. He walk 1 batter in the first, 1 in second, 2 in third and 1 in sixth. His control got better after runners got on base. His head bobs up and down a lot. Most strikeouts seemed to come on the changeup with batters frequently fooled. Other notes - In his last 33 innings he has given up 14 hits all singles. Tidbit - By system mandate a pitcher who throws 35 or more pitches in a single inning must be pulled from game. Gonzales threw 31 in 3rd inning. He doesn't nibble but does let the ball fly. Definitely has command issues. I was just curious.
  22. The worst phrase I have read in a long time is "The Twins plan to hold steady at the Trade Deadline". I don't know if this is a trade deadline smoke screen or more seriously misguided team management plan to sell 12 more tickets this year to the casual fan. Plan A should be "How do we compete with Houston, New York, Los Angeles or Boston", not how do we win 2 more games against a seriously weak division. We are 6 games under after a romping homestand against 3 of the worst teams in baseball. We did beat up on 2 of the 3 teams at the bottom of the runs scored against column. Tampa Bay does have more wins than the Twins, but they have been selling off their best assets over the past year or more. I guess those are measuring sticks. There are still 8 teams in the league with more wins than the Twins. This team should be doing every thing it can to add talent for next year and future years and finding out what it already hason the farm that will help next year. Whether it says so or not this team has been standing pat at the trade deadline for 8 years or more, maybe its way past time to try something different.
  23. Whether Gordon makes it up in July or September, I would expect him to spend most of his time sitting on the bench. Then he'll get thrown in to pinch hit in the 13th inning and when he fails he'll get sent back to the minors.
  24. Following the Felix Jorge release(sans some unknown issue), I don't see the purpose of making a trade for players that have less upside then him. I am not trying to make Felix Jorge the standard for a trade, but it would seem like there should be a minimum trade standard we can identify with. Now who can we trade to get more than a Felix Jorge and who is available. Possibly the best we can do is recent draft picks or international money.
