  1. With only 6 walks allowed in 60 innings, I hope someone can teach Jax some control soon. Over his last 5 starts he has averaged better than a strikeout per inning.
  2. Moliter came to the job with no managment experience. Moliter is not a bad manager but he is the wrong manager for the current situation. Looking at it as a fan, to me Moliter always looked like someone who wanted an experienced veteran laden team. He didn't seem comfortable inserting young players and rookies into the lineup and letting them make their mistakes. The front office has made it very apparent they plan to develop and add even more youth to the roster. If anything, going forward this team will have even more inexperienced young players and rookies getting incorporated into the team. They need a manager and coaches in step with this or they are never going to develop a consistently winning team.
  3. Dozier best value is probably just to plug what would otherwise be a hole at second base. He probably has no real trade value. He certainly isn't a cleanup hitter, but then who on the team is doing well enough to push him out of that spot?
  4. Not looking good so far. But they have 50 games or so to work on regaining his swing at the major lague level. This would give them a better determination of offseason needs.
  5. I expected to see Escobar traded, but if this is the best we can get I don't hold much hope out for the trade prospects of our other short term assets. I really would not want to trade Gibson or Pressly since we have another year left with them, although I recognize our return could be greater. Amazing that we couldn't even break into another teams top 10 prospects. So disappointing.
  6. I would not want to see the Twins sign or trade for a veteran player that would take playing time away from a prospect less than a year away from the majors. Don't give Moliter that temptation. In spite of the play and the record, my biggest disappointment in the team this year is that not a single every day or pitching prospect has earned their chops at the major league level. True, the everyday prospect options were not great, but their seemed to be plenty of pitching options that should have allowed at least 1 starter and 2 relievers making an impact. There was Romero somewhat. Here's a thought. Sano, Buxton, Kepler, Rosario and Polance were all getting some playing time at the major league level in 2015. This is the 4th season since than. If our next wave doesn't start hitting the bigs until 2020 and take 3-4 years to become impact players, Buxton and Sano, et al, will be nine-ten year veterans.
  7. I agree that a 2018 return to Minnesota shouldn't be a major concern. To me everything should be geared towards a productive 2019. Sano was having difficulty with sliders when he went down and I do think that Triple A pitchers have better breaking pitches and thus will provide a bigger challenge.
  8. Notes on Gonzalvez last game - not intended for scouting purposes. He always pitches from stretch. His front leg sometimes kicks behind him, sometimes in front of him sometimes behind him that looks sorta like winding up from the stretch position. If you can imagine that. His stride is shorter with runners on base, which seems to give him better control and h steps more directly towards the plate. Each walk had 2-3 high pitches, probably fastballs. Very few curves thrown, although frequently in the dirt. He walk 1 batter in the first, 1 in second, 2 in third and 1 in sixth. His control got better after runners got on base. His head bobs up and down a lot. Most strikeouts seemed to come on the changeup with batters frequently fooled. Other notes - In his last 33 innings he has given up 14 hits all singles. Tidbit - By system mandate a pitcher who throws 35 or more pitches in a single inning must be pulled from game. Gonzales threw 31 in 3rd inning. He doesn't nibble but does let the ball fly. Definitely has command issues. I was just curious.
  9. The worst phrase I have read in a long time is "The Twins plan to hold steady at the Trade Deadline". I don't know if this is a trade deadline smoke screen or more seriously misguided team management plan to sell 12 more tickets this year to the casual fan. Plan A should be "How do we compete with Houston, New York, Los Angeles or Boston", not how do we win 2 more games against a seriously weak division. We are 6 games under after a romping homestand against 3 of the worst teams in baseball. We did beat up on 2 of the 3 teams at the bottom of the runs scored against column. Tampa Bay does have more wins than the Twins, but they have been selling off their best assets over the past year or more. I guess those are measuring sticks. There are still 8 teams in the league with more wins than the Twins. This team should be doing every thing it can to add talent for next year and future years and finding out what it already hason the farm that will help next year. Whether it says so or not this team has been standing pat at the trade deadline for 8 years or more, maybe its way past time to try something different.
  10. Whether Gordon makes it up in July or September, I would expect him to spend most of his time sitting on the bench. Then he'll get thrown in to pinch hit in the 13th inning and when he fails he'll get sent back to the minors.
  11. Following the Felix Jorge release(sans some unknown issue), I don't see the purpose of making a trade for players that have less upside then him. I am not trying to make Felix Jorge the standard for a trade, but it would seem like there should be a minimum trade standard we can identify with. Now who can we trade to get more than a Felix Jorge and who is available. Possibly the best we can do is recent draft picks or international money.
  12. must be nice to be one of those teams that regularly develops good players and the fans don't think they need to automatcally consider trading them for more prospects.
  13. It is interesting had all but 2 maybe 3 Twins hitters have looked lost or just plain bad this year. Hope not,but maybe last year was an aberration. Maybe new hitting theories being incorporated into the system that players are having a tough time adjusting to.
  14. When the year started, I expected to keep an eye certain players in the minors. I just wasn't expecting them to be named Sano, Buxton and Palanco. Currently there are 10 teams in the American league with better records than the Twins. We could finish better than a couple of them, but passing 6 teams to get into a wild card race will be difficult. Catching Cleveland doesn't look like a too likely option either. Shopping players for the rest of the season seems the most likely course of action. Unfortunately our record is bad and any tradeable players are causing the win/loss results. Seen too much of this the last 8 years. They could hold second half auditions for the 2019 roster, but I just as soon they not bring up players until they are truly ready, I've also seen enough failure from our star prospects. I'll continue to watch minor league baseball and next years draft standings.
  15. After 4 years he has not proven he is the correct man for the job. I think that is the answer.
  16. After almost 10 years of mediocre to bad baseball its difficult to get excited about what might happen. They had a good month last year and a good one in 2016. Anything other than that is hard to remember. Yep they may trade some people next month or get some guys off the injured list or pigs may fly, but I've seen too much of this kind of baseball. Judging by the crowd sizes at the games so have alot of other people.
  17. Nice to see that Griffin Jax made a couple of starts for Ft Myers this past week. Nothing spectacular, but just keep moving up 1 level per year in the time he has available.
  18. Just like this year, I expect many free agents will learn that the market next year won't be what is was in the past. Seemingly last winter we tried to trade Dozier and the best offer apparently was DeLeon. Other teams don't seem to value him as much as Twins do. Will he really be the Twins best second base option for the next 3-4 years? What other position value does he have? Firstbase and DH type players don't seem to get paid that well unless they are the top super stars. As a firstbase/DH, I think Dozier would be placed in just above the Morrison category and we know what he got. Based on these factors, he may become a very affordable option to be retained by the Twins.
  19. Once Morrison signed, there was not a spot for either Grossman or Vargas. To me, Vargas has shown enough to at least demonstrate an ability to have a typical Morrison type season. Morrison never came close to hitting 38 homers prior to last season and with regular AB's Vargas could probably have at least one 30 homer season in his career. Obviously the value of a potential Vargas 30 homer season is not that great and for the same reason Morrison won't have a real long career in Minnesota.
  20. The 10 day rule becomes a new way for pitchers (as well as position players) to breakin to the bigs. A couple trips back and forth getting the feet wet and confortable and maybe the big league staff becomes more confident in what the newbie has. The optimistic position is that besides trying to find spots in the bullpen for 2018 for pitchers in waiting is that the list seems to add 3-4 pitchers a year for at least the next several years.
  21. Maybe it's something simpler. Maybe all the statistical analysis used to managed results on the field has also crept into the management of team salaries. As noted team have seen that big contracts for one player rarely pays the length of the contract. As we saw last year when the big boppers didn't get the contracts previously handed out to big homerun hitter. Stanton got his big contract a couple years back. But it doesn't appear he generated a lot of trade interest and so even at his young age trying to unload that contract was very difficult for the Marlins.
  22. Sano. I'd like to see him be that 40+ homer, 120+ RBI guy. Put the monster in the lineup.
  23. Certainly spring training (not soon enough) will provide some interesting battles. Instead of whose the filler while watching for other teams discards, we actually should have battles between good and better with other teams watching us. No doubt there will be someone sent to Rochester who pitched 8 innings with no earned runs given up and 10 srikeouts. I expect a spring training trade or 2.
  24. With a stable bullpen and long on potential support at Rochester the days of cringing when the bullpen call is made hopefully will be over. The starting pitching may improve by just not having so many innings blowup once a reliever is called in. Some starters may be on shorter leashes, which won't be so bad either. Although for a pitcher like Mejia, he will have to pitch longer to be on a short leash. Also hopefully, the better pen will allow our hitters a chance to come back when the starters fail early and some of those 10-8 losses will turn into 8-6 wins.
