Pablo López was electric for the Minnesota Twins Sunday against the Mets, striking out a career-high 14 batters over eight scoreless innings. Unfortunately, his teammates did not have it. The lineup was completely lifeless and the Twins were shutout, losing 2-0. The Minnesota Twins and Kenta Maeda overcame a shaky top of the first inning to outlast the Mets Saturday at Target Field. The offense once again featured a well-balanced effort from the lineup — and bench. Max Kepler delivered a huge pinch hit bases-clearing triple. Down in the minors, Kala’i Rosario added to his system-leading RBI total and both Bailey Ober (for the Saints) and Jorge Alcala (for the Mussels) pitched. There was nothing lucky about the home run Carlos Correa hit, though, a 114-mph shot that landed in the upper deck. There was nothing lucky about the home run Carlos Correa hit, though, a 114-mph shot that landed in the upper deck. Simeon Woods Richardson pitched a great game and Gilberto Celestino hit an inside-the-park homer for the Saints. Willie Joe Garry Jr. stole the go-ahead run in the ninth inning for the Wind Surge. The Minnesota Twins clobbered Cleveland 20-6 to open a huge series. Royce Lewis dealt the Guardians a knockout blow in the second inning with a grand slam that capped an incredible two-out rally for the Twins. Ryan Jeffers, Willi Castro, Edouard Julien and Jorge Polanco did an incredible job of keeping the line moving to get to Royce in that situation. Pablo López delivered another quality start, holding Cleveland to one run over six innings.

There was plenty to review over in St. Paul, as Byron Buxton and Alex Kirilloff started their rehab assignments and David Festa made his Triple-A debut. Buxton played centerfield for the first time in over a year. Festa made an outstanding first impression, pitching arguably his best game of the season. The Minnesota Twins announced shortly before Monday’s game Bailey Ober has been optioned to the minor leagues. The corresponding move is left-hander Kody Funderburk is heading up to the Twins. To make room on the 40-man roster, Oliver Ortega was moved to the 60-day IL. Here is my reaction to the news. View full video
