The Minnesota Twins made a trade today, acquiring Manuel Margot from the Dodgers. They also picked up minor leaguer Rayne Doncon and in exchange sent shortstop prospect Noah Miller to Los Angeles. Margot fills the need for a right-handed hitting outfield option and also serves as Byron Buxton insurance in center field. Here are my thoughts on Margot and this trade.

My message to Minnesota Twins owner Joe Pohlad: Take advantage of this unique opportunity that has presented itself or you're gonna regret it. The Twins currently project to have a payroll $35 million less than last season, but there are still three big time free agents available on the market in Cody Bellinger, Blake Snell and Jordan Montgomery. The Twins currently project to have a payroll $35 million less than last season, but there are still three big time free agents available on the market in Cody Bellinger, Blake Snell and Jordan Montgomery. The Minnesota Twins have traded Nick Gordon to the Miami Marlins for left-handed reliever Steven Okert. Both players are out of options for 2024, so this appears to be a case of teams swapping pieces that simply fit into the rosters better in their new homes. For the Twins, Okert slides in alongside Caleb Thielbar as another established MLB lefty in the pen. View full video

Minnesota Twins games will continue to be broadcast on Bally Sports North in 2024. There's been a one-year deal agreed to, but the financial terms will not be made public. It's good to have the TV situation resolved, but based on some comments from Cory Provus earlier this offseason, this isn't the way the Twins envisioned this developing.

Jordan Balazovic has been designated for assignment by the Minnesota Twins, meaning this could be the end of the line for him in this organization. Once a top-100 prospect, Balazovic's stock has since faded dramatically. The Minnesota Twins still have an uncertain outlook for their TV broadcasts. Diamond Sports, Bally Sports North's parent company, has reached an agreement with Amazon to help them out of financial trouble, but the Twins no longer have a contract with them. While it's possible a new agreement is reached, another potential outcome is MLB taking over Twins broadcasts. This is something they had to do with the Padres and Diamondbacks last season. What might that look like?
