Carlos Correa, Byron Buxton and Royce Lewis are all question marks at this time, but I believe all three will be active come the playoffs. The St. Paul Saints played their final game of the season Sunday, wrapping up the Minnesota Twins minor league system schedule for 2023. Here are some highlights from that game, including another impressive Jair Camargo home run, plus a discussion on some of the best minor league performers in the system this year. In addition to relaying my Saints hitter and pitcher of the year, I also go over those picks for the other three full-season Twins affiliates and my picks for Twins minor league players of the year and organizational all-stars.

Minnesota Twins prospect Emmanuel Rodriguez had the type of moment you dream about. In a winner-take-all playoff game, he came to bat with the bases loaded and sent a grand slam out into the dark of the Cedar Rapids night. The Kernels won, giving them their first Midwest League Championship since 1994. Up on the big club, Willi Castro continued his magical season with another dose of pure chaos. He led an impressive Twins comeback to win both Wednesday’s game against the Reds and the series in Cincinnati.

The Minnesota Twins shutout the Reds 7-0 Tuesday night behind an insane game from William Castro. He made a pair of great catches in the field to save runs and hit a homer. Kenta Maeda was sharp, striking out eight over five innings. Unfortunately, the big talking point resulting from this game is Royce Lewis’ health. He had to exit the game in the eighth inning after taking an awkward swing. Down in the minors, the Twins actually have a number of players returning to health. Nick Gordon, Joey Gallo, Chris Paddack, Brock Stewart and Jorge Alcala are all rehabbing with the Saints. Paddack looked incredible at hit 98.2 mph. Andrew Morris delivered a great start for Cedar Rapids but their quest for the Midwest League title will have to continue tomorrow. Their game was suspended in the bottom of the fifth inning due to rain. They’ll pick back up tomorrow and play Game 3, if necessary. View full video

Wichita needed to win and get some help in order to qualify for the playoffs on the final day of their regular season. Unfortunately, it wasn’t meant to be. Highlights from that game plus a quick overview of my Wind Surge hitter (Joyner Fajardo) and pitcher (Pierson Ohl) of the year. Down in the minors, the Saints lost their fourth-straight game, a streak that has basically crushed their playoff aspirations, and the Wind Surge blew a three-run lead in the ninth inning of a game they could ill-afford to lose. Royce Lewis did it again. He set the Minnesota Twins single-season record by hitting his fourth grand slam of the season. He’s also the fastest player to five career grand slams by nearly a half season. That big blast led the Twins to a 10-2 victory over the White Sox Friday. In the minors, Brock Stewart and Nick Gordon both began their rehab assignments with St. Paul and the Kernels won their elimination game in convincing fashion. Cedar Rapids advances to the Midwest League Championship, a best-of-three series.

The Minnesota Twins beat the White Sox 10-2 in Chicago Thursday. You wouldn’t know it by the final score, but the lineup got off to a slow start. Solo homers from helmet-less Edouard Julien and Royce Lewis helped support an outstanding start from Kenta Maeda until the lineup caught fire late. Down in the minors, Cedar Rapids was facing elimination but responded with an impressive offensive output of their own. Longtime Kernel Jeferson Morales hit a huge three-run home run to highlight a 9-4 victory. The deciding Game 3 is tomorrow night. That and more in tonight’s Twins System Recap.

The Minnesota Twins lost to the Rays Wednesday afternoon at Target Field. With Cleveland in a tailspin, there’s not much to get worked up about in terms of wins and losses, but there were a couple of big-picture items of concern that continued to reveal themselves. Griffin Jax gave up the go-ahead homer in the ninth inning and has a 6.26 ERA in the second half. Also discussed is the decision to pinch hit Christian Vázquez for Edouard Julien. Down in the minors, both Simeon Woods Richardson and Pierson Ohl continued their strong streak of performances on the mound. Also, Yunior Severino homered for the third-straight game.

The Minnesota Twins beat the Rays Tuesday at Target Field thanks in large part to Willi Castro's go-ahead two-run homer. Joe Ryan struck out seven in his first outing against his former organization and Louie Varland supported him with 2 1/3 shutout innings of relief. Down in the minors, Yunior Severino slugged his 33rd home run of the season and Chris Paddack had an impressive start with Wichita. The Kernels started their three-game playoff series in disappointing fashion, losing a one-run game while blowing a golden opportunity in the ninth inning. -

The offense once again featured a well-balanced effort from the lineup — and bench. Max Kepler delivered a huge pinch hit bases-clearing triple.
