  1. Could be both. You said that Toronto doesn't blow away TC in your mind. I simply noted that perhaps it does in Berrios'. Everyone likes different things and has other priorities.
  2. It's not a preconceived notion if the mindset evolves from the actual negotiations.
  3. Realism has to enter into the conversation at some point. When it becomes abundantly clear one side doesn't have interest in an extension, the mindset must adjust.
  4. If this FO has taught me anything, it's that the offseason isn't over until it's over.
  5. I've liked what I've seen from Jeffers, generally, when he's gotten consistent playing time. But I haven't seen enough to say that I'm sold he'll continue that way. That's where I hesitate with this.
  6. They must be pretty confident that Jeffers will take off with regular playing time. This seems like more of a "future" move rather than a "now" move, IMO.
  7. I agree completely, Van. Been to several minor league games and you don't even know it's there. The only time I did was when the clock was in the direct line of sight past the pitcher. Thing is, the rule would have to be enforced to be effective. Players coming up from the minors have been used to the pitch clock for some time now, so it really shouldn't be that big of an issue of buy-in at this point. It won't affect those players since they've already been playing with one.
  8. MLB's loss is college basketball's gain.

  9. Agreed. The last thing this roster needs is another log in the jam at corner/DH types. If there's any team that should know how to deal with a good hitting catcher, it should be this one.
  10. This one is pretty easy for me. Punto, Hocking, Ford and Tyner.
  11. I don't think it was a mistake. Issues aside, extending home grown talent with his potential is a good thing typically. Has it worked out as hoped? Not exactly, but it can still bear fruit. While he was signed as a SS, he wasn't expected to stick there. Becoming a DH only type is a disappointment, but if he can build in his second half of last season it won't be a bad thing.
  12. Congratulations on a great career, Ryan Zimmerman!  Enjoy retirement!

  13. That's some hard hitting journalism instinct there! Asking the real questions!
  14. Agreed. He would almost certainly be an upgrade over what was produced from the position last season.
  15. I can't stop laughing at the size difference between Puckett and Winfield! Winfield the athlete is insane. Getting drafted by 4 leagues is ridiculous. That will always amaze me no matter how many times I hear it. Who are the others in that group?
  16. People ask me what I do in winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring.

Not nearly as talented as Rogers Hornsby, but I can do that! ?

  17. This has been one of the more frustrating stretches during the lockout. Hard to even find any hope to grab on to.
  18. Lewis being unable to get on the field is a pretty big deal at this point. It's just setback after setback, kinda crazy circumstances. He's still pretty important to the organization, he needs to get on the field.
  19. Excellent first post! Welcome to Twins Daily!
  20. The Central was pretty brutal last season, so it doesn't take much to improve upon. That said, every team but the Twins and Guardians made decent strides last season. Cleveland sort of treaded water and the Twins, well... The fact that KC and Detroit are getting better doesn't help the Twins cause. Chicago should be very good again and Cleveland is still better than the Twins even if they keep treading water.
  21. When this "The league and MLBPA have begun to meet with greater frequency, which is good I guess..." is the best thing that can be said this close to ST, that's not a good sign. Punxsutawney Phil isn't the only indication that winter is going to be a bit longer this year.
