  1. I was at that game as well. All I could do was shake my head, especially because of the scenario that preceded it. The 5th and 6th innings were just managerial folly. It's become comical with how inefficiently he uses the bullpen. It's no wonder these guys wear down.
  2. Ah, it was me who didn't understand your argument. That makes more sense. Sorry for the confusion. I'm not sure Beresford has any greater future with this team than Santana, but I can at least buy the argument that he deserves more of an opportunity in the Show. At this point, that is what this team should be doing. They need to figure out who is in the long term plans. Arcia obviously wasn't. I'm not overly bent out of shape about that, but I do think how this went down reeks of mismanagement as well.
  3. I wasn't necessarily trying to say it was. Beresford or the 12 guys on waivers aren't on the 40 man, so that complicates things further (unless they did the smart thing and not claimed Ramirez). If that happens, then you have two guys that can do the same thing on the 40 man. That doesn't make sense either. Fact of the matter is that the Park signing and a long list of other roster mismanagement led to this point. It always goes back to the pieces of this roster puzzle not fitting. I for one don't mind that they chose to move on from him. I do mind how they got here.
  4. Santana can play semi-competent defense in so many places, that's his value. I just hope that this is a sign that TR is actually actively trying to move some of these veterans and may need a very short term stop gap player. I'm not overly optimistic that is the approach however. That requires too much foresight for this FO.
  5. I'm far from sold on Arcia. He may prove to go the route of a Valencia and eventually get there. I see him as more of a platoon guy that hits a HR every so often and strikes out most of the rest of the time. His lack of plate discipline is his undoing. That being said, if he cleans that up he could be quite productive. I don't see him going Ortiz on us regardless though. I'm not going to lose sleep over him being gone, but how they even got to this point is just item on the list of reasons this FO is a clown show. That being said, this timing makes little sense. They knew Santana was coming back in a matter of days when they signed Neil Ramirez. They simply could have not signed a guy that was waived by two teams in three weeks and let Chargois get another inning or two. Then when Santana was ready to come back, they send Chargois down. I wouldn't be that bothered with carrying 12 pitchers, Molitor just has to use them more efficiently. But the best answer was to let Santana sit in Rochester for a bit while you worked out a trade for one of the big league position players. Development to win more games later on should be the focus, not necessarily winning games now. I'd be interested to know if TR even tried to trade him first.

  7. I'd like that very much actually. Then again, I basically want everything that isn't nailed down to be traded. Start working towards the future by trading veterans that can bring something back and free up space for the guys that are in the long term picture.
  8. I can't agree with this enough. This organization shows signs of complete delusion. I don't see any signs that point to them understanding where they actually are, how they got there, or that they understand how to get where they feel like they should be. The manager doesn't play the prospects that come up and the FO calls up guys "because they had to" and then instead of using that opportunity to see where that player is at, they send them right back to Rochester. There is no adjustment to do what is best for the future, they still have the "we need to win games now" mentality. It's seasons like these where an overall evaluation should be made. Guys that you feel that will be pieces for the future get put where you feel they're going to end up. Guys that you need to see what you have before you can determine their long term fate get an extended audition to help you decide. If you have veterans that are doing nothing but blocking younger guys, you deal them, bench them, or cut them loose. None of these things are happening for any reason other than injury.
  9. So it is true! Your mother really did once visit Cleveland! I'll gather the torches and pitchforks!
  10. I agree. Bad contracts are going to happen from time to time. It may not even be anyone's fault, it just ends up that way. The Jays were in a better position of need for a move of that nature. Who says Tulo even waives his no trade clause to come here.
  11. As mentioned in other threads, he's not had a lot of AB's in higher minors or MLB. He's learning and getting better but it'll take some time. I'm not worried and it's good to see him improving.
  12. Careful, I don't want to have to tell everyone on MySpace that you're being mean again.
  13. True, but moving aging and expensive veterans in order to play younger in-house players has the same effect. Especially true if those veterans aren't producing.
  14. Depending on how that would be accomplished, I might be all for that over the current circumstances.
  15. This. Too many judge payroll on stinginess. It has to be taken in context. Rebuilding teams have lower payrolls because they offload their bigger veteran contracts to acquire young talent, which is cheap.
  16. Following that logic, yes. Before you jump all over me, I'll add that I think he does a pretty good job in a very tough spot. The team is relevant more often than not. You'd probably like more peaks, but there really aren't many deep valleys in there, which is good.
  17. I'm getting closer and closer to wanting "lose" to be changed to "play".
  18. That surprises me and doesn't surprise me all at the same time.
  19. Atlanta is doing what this team apparently refuses to admit they need to do. The Cubs went a similar route. It's almost like everyone realizes that this team is trying to tread water and failing it except the guys making the roster decisions. That's how you get where this team is and stay that way if things don't change significantly.
  20. Not necessarily. The potential is there, but their ownership shows more willingness to spend their way through it. In another comment, I compared them to the Cubs prior to Theo getting there. Even those teams weren't as bad as the Twins are currently.
  21. I'd already say that their run was a success. I'd still put their FO (current and former) over the Twins. It's just that the run of success could end badly.
  22. In case the Russian judge fixes the outcome.
  23. That is exactly where I was going with that. They could come through unscathed, but there is potential for disaster there. I'm thinking Cubs prior to Theo bad. Loaded with big, bad contracts that they can't move.
