  1. I agree with your point, yet that's exactly what they did.
  2. Agreed. I've never minded that he was dealt, its what he was dealt for that has always ticked me off.
  3. Incidentally, the Mets acquired Kelly Johnson today. That probably lessens their desire for a trade for a 3B a bit even if Johnson is a utility guy.
  4. I agree and it's about time the team figures out what he can do at the MLB level since they've exhausted his option years without already figuring that out.
  5. Agreed. Many of the moves that they have made would be reasonable if the team were competitive and being in the thick of relevancy. Obviously, that is not the scenario so they make little to no sense. Aside from being forced to due to injury, Buxton would be the most notable exception of a prospect being called up and actually playing. This team is in a position where the notion of prospects coming up and playing every day should be the norm, not to exception.
  6. I'm right there with you, even with the statement that they won't have a choice but to make a change. I'm just not sure it'll happen.
  7. Kepler is only playing everyday due to injury as well. He rarely played when he was first up. Buxton came back up earlier than probably anticipated because of injury. It's good that they're actually playing, but the FO's hand was forced.
  8. I wish that I had your optimism that a move will actually be made.
  9. Yanking him from the game would also be an option. Perhaps hurting the team in that context would make him think about it more.
  10. Wally Pipp would probably appreciate this post. This is a cool topic, but I'm at a loss to actually add to it.
  11. Is that all?
  12. I like his fire, but he too often crosses the line to recklessness. I wouldn't mind him on this team because of that fire, but I'd worried about getting burned with his antics.
  13. You took the words right out of my mouth. I've come full circle on Nunez. For the past couple of years I've been clamoring for his removal from the roster because of a variety of reasons. Now, I find myself clamoring for his removal from the roster because he's one of the few valuable trade chips this team has.
  14. Good read. Like others have touched on, I'm worried that the necessary changes won't be made. A failure of this nature has to result in changes, but this team isn't one to make those decisions.
  15. I wouldn't have an issue with that. Though, in some sense it would be nice to see what some of the younger guys do in those late inning situations. I still want to see May as a starter, but if he's going to be in the bullpen I wouldn't mind seeing what he does in that 9th inning.
  16. At this point, there shouldn't even be a set closer. Play the matchups/numbers game unless somebody starts to stand out.
  17. Agreed. It's okay to make a mistake, it happens. What you can't do is continue to compound the mistake by doing absolutely nothing to fix it.
  18. Molitor has shown a very stubborn desire to keep treating Jepsen like a legitimate closer. This is apparently based solely on the notion that he has closer experience. While I understand that in April, two months have gone by and nothing has changed. How anybody else hasn't been given that opportunity is mind boggling.
  19. Agreed. Polhad's comment is a very stark contrast from that of the Padres owner, whose team just unloaded their key offseason pitching acquisition. We'll see if there are more moves made from the Padres, but they've already shown more of a willingness to change what ails them than the Twins have. You can't publicly state that it was a "total system failure" and then do virtually nothing about it and be taken seriously.
  20. Since the flurry of moves that came around the time of that comment, no other moves of substance have taken place. There was no wholesale movement to improve the team. If it weren't for injuries, the likes of Buxton and Kepler might still be in AAA. So not only have they not learned a thing, they've done very little in the way of trying to overcome what got them there in the first place.
  21. Part of this may have already been foreshadowed by the fact that Molitor continues to trot Jepsen out there in the closer's role. He's made no real adjustment there despite it clearly not working. The fact that he has closer experience isn't exactly mattering at this point. It's early June and nobody else has been given an opportunity.
  22. Rosario earned the demotion, that's why he's in AAA. Arcia didn't earn the privilege to play more when he was playing more. That's why Grossman is playing. For the bullpen, you're asking the same questions everyone else has for some time.
  23. I agree with your last statement. I like Plouffe quite a bit, always have. I respect what he's turned himself into despite early struggles at the MLB level. I'm happy for guys like that. It will suck to see him moved. That being said, it's (past) time to move him. Most of the reasons for it aren't even his fault. Moving him solves so many problems, relieves logjams, and makes the managers job so much easier that holding onto him at all makes absolutely no sense.
  24. But that would stunt the growth of the future for the sake of the present. They're stuck between flat out rebuilding (like they should be doing) and trying to remain relevant (which is what they have been doing for 4 years).
