  1. The basis of my point on Sano is not his weight or his ability in RF. It's that the team asked him to do something and he largely ignored it. He may have tried working on conditioning and RF on his own, however the best way to do both of those things would have been to stay in winter ball. Work out with the team, get real game reps in RF (the best way to hone the ability), work with coaches outside of games on both. He didn't do that. TR's comments mean little. He can't dictate what a player does, so what is he going to say? Destroying an emerging star in the media doesn't really get anybody anywhere in this situation, IMO.
  2. He left winter ball early, did he not?
  3. Yup, which he also decided not to do.
  4. That's not the point. He was asked to do something by the team and he didn't. Losing the 10 pounds wouldn't make him a competent RF, but he ignored what his bosses asked. That's my point. And that's on Sano.
  5. What makes little sense to me is that a winning team tends to be more financially successful as well. It becomes more marketable. It's kind of the old adage of "you've got to spend money to make money." i'm not even suggesting that they spend more than the team brings in. Simply spending more wisely would help this team.
  6. i'll take the under only because I don't think this team can manage that many opportunities in such a short span.
  7. The only thing you can fairly blame Sano for is that the team asked him to come in lighter and he didn't. That's on him. He's in a profession where ignoring your bosses is at least somewhat tolerated as well.
  8. I guess that I can't think of anyone else that has done that, not to say that it doesn't happen. Regardless, that doesn't make it any less petty and classless.
  9. He's a very nice sell high candidate, but you don't need to give him away. It would be nice to free up PT for Polanco, but like mazeville stated above, it would be nice if he could get slotted in somewhere regularly.
  10. That is why he's paying TR in the first place after all.
  11. No different from any other rookie. Some come in and light it up right away, others don't. Too early to really worry much.
  12. Once a week isn't even backup type PT, so I can agree with you there. But I think he's had a pretty good opportunity over the years and he's not taken advantage of it. That theme continued into this year. He's incredibly streaky and still shows poor plate discipline with no signs of improvement. But I do think he should be getting two starts a week. At this point, Molitor or the FO are prioritizing Kepler's PT to aid his development. Personally, I'd rather see that route taken. But there isn't much reason not to rotate him in at DH more. Park hasn't earned anything either.
  13. I don't really think he's earned more than the spot starts he's getting. When he was playing every day for a while, he fell off of a cliff rather quickly. Plus, they need to see what Kepler can do.
  14. I think that's his point though. Look at what he's paying $170M for - a couple of guys north of 30 and a giant question mark who had one very good season. That money could have been better spent on younger players. Admittedly I didn't mind either the Santana or Nolasco signing at the time, but I thought they paid a steep price for them. That's the part I didn't like.
  15. No apology necessary...to me anyway. I won't speak for the SPCA or dead horses.
  16. I never claimed that he gained weight, only that he came in heavier than they wanted him to. That is all.
  17. I thought that they had wanted him to report to camp at 250 or something and he came in 10 pounds heavier.
  18. Perhaps the fans in attendance should just ignore the fact that he's even being honored. No applause/boos when he comes to the plate. Not a peep if he does anything, whether it be strike out or hit yet another towering moon shot off of a Twins pitcher.
  19. You are correct, but I do agree with the point Platoon was making as well.
  20. That's the part that gets me. He wrecks this franchise every chance he gets. I don't have a ton of respect for the guy to begin with, but constantly beating that dead horse is tiresome and classless. He thinks and acts like he's bigger than the game itself.
  21. That's not what I was trying to say, I was trying to make a more general statement. The ability to produce all year long versus half a year (Dozier) or pulling muscles are indications of lack of conditioning. But in Sano's case, the team did ask him to come in lighter and he didn't.
  22. I'm almost as baffled that Chargois isn't on this team yet as I am that it took this long to get Jepsen out of the closers role.
  23. The players should be held accountable if they come in out of shape. It's their job to stay in shape. Whether it be motivation or laziness, if that's the mentality of the player, that's the mentality of the player. There's only so much a team can do about that. It's at that point the hones is on the player.
  24. Agree completely with you here. I used to eat and drink at the ballpark almost every game we attended. By May of this year, I was making sure that I wasn't spending any money at Target Field at all. I go to the games I've paid for, but that is it. Between the putrid product on the field and increased concession prices, I refuse to give this team any more of my money this year. Between the concessions and the team, it's abundantly clear what they spent more time on during the off season.
  25. I was thinking the same thing. Good to see JRM starting to find some life at the plate and not just behind it.
