  1. I'd definitely rather see them do that, but they aren't in a position where they should give him away. If they get a decent offer, then sure, pull the trigger.
  2. I tend to agree with this approach. If I'm the team, I think I'd rather he be working with the big league hitting coach (all jokes aside). They've gone this far with him, he may as well learn to hit big league pitching in the big leagues. It's not as though this team is going anywhere anyway. Allow the kid to learn and develop.
  3. Better take all of the pointy objects away from Platoon!
  4. Assuming that he's a wise business person, he has to see that he could be making a lot more money if the product improves. He's losing out on potential revenue the longer this poor play continues. You don't need baseball brains to figure that one out.
  5. This would be the sensible move indeed.
  6. Perhaps, but he's been in the field for all of his rehab starts I believe. That includes at least one game in RF. But I'd venture to guess that you are correct. Plouffe's been bothered by his knee again. Perhaps Moli gives him the night off.
  7. You might be onto something there. I didn't think of it that way.
  8. I've seen several sources saying Sano is in town and activated for today. Park sent down to AAA.
  9. This. I wouldn't hesitate at all if an offer was given for Grossman that included an actual player. I'm much less concerned about finding a 4th outfielder than I am acquiring someone that can help down the road.
  10. Polhad has said many times that TR has never been turned down when asking for money on a free agent. Money is a crutch. If Tampa can put an extended run together in the conditions they're saddled with, this team has no excuses. Even if finances are a problem, TR spending habits are a larger problem.
  11. What you describe is not hypocrisy, it's just being wrong. The hypocrisy there would be saying we need to play for the future and utilize the farm system and then continue to trot out veterans that are blocking MLB ready prospects and relegating them to AAA.
  12. This isn't Nam...there are rules!
  13. Agreed. At this point, I'm just hoping that it starts instead of this treading water that we've been seeing for the last 5 years.
  14. I enjoy the enthusiasm...and you're right, that is how baseball works. 'Tis a funny game.
  15. I would agree with that. You can't just call up guys that clearly aren't ready. That's counterproductive. That being said, guys that do show that they're ready aren't given opportunities. Moves aren't made with the future in mind. As birdwatcher eluded to, people make mistakes. He's also right in saying that people are pretty brutal if they're attacking every word TR says. A good manager will admit to mistakes and take actions to correct them. IMO, he does more compounding of his mistakes by taking no action rather than correcting them. This team should be building for the future and TR doesn't show a willingness to do that. They're on pace for a 100+ loss season following 90+ losses in 4 of 5 seasons. I don't think criticism of that is unfair at all. Not everything he does or says is wrong, but there is plenty of criticism to go around.
  16. Those are the comments I was referring to. I'd have more hope for Polhad's comments if they weren't reported by Sid. He does still have his moments though.
  17. The Cubs improved rapidly because they unloaded their bad contracts, whether it be via trade or outright releasing them. That freed up time for cheaper, more effective players and eventually to their stud farm system that they developed via unloading trades of the few valuable vets they had. This FO is not that far thinking and that's backed up by TR's comments.
  18. Correct you are. It's very difficult to learn a craft at the highest level if you aren't afforded an opportunity to learn said craft at the highest level. So instead, when you've exhausted their options you're forced with a decision. Have they showed enough in the minuscule time we've given them to prove themselves worthy or DFA them because there's nothing else that I can do with them?
  19. Well that was an insightful, invigorating read to start the day! Such joy it has brought me! It gives me a "What could possibly go wrong today?" vibe. In all seriousness though, I think this is laid out pretty well. There are positive signs in the not so distant future. However, those signs are obscured by hanging tree branches that are a delusional understanding of where this team is. Playing aging veterans over kids that are showing their readiness in AAA does nothing for you. It doesn't help you win games. It doesn't help you fill seats. It doesn't help you sell more of your expensive concessions or fill your ever expanding plethora of bars. It simply brings more of the same. More of the same mediocrity. More of the same complacency. More of the same apathy from fans. More of stupid baseball and the losses it brings with. With the recent comments from TR, I'm convinced that he can't see the forest through the trees. That's alarming to me in so many ways. We've already endured four recent 90+ loss seasons. How much more patience can this FO and ownership expect the fans to exhibit when they exhibit no inkling of making the necessary changes.
  20. Those words aren't surprising at all. His words reflect his actions. This mentality would be fine for a middling team on the cusp of being a series contender, but not at all what a team in this position should be looking at. He talks about guys wanting to win games. I'd argue that several of the prospects might even give this team a better chance of winning baseball games. They certainly wouldn't harm the chances at all.
  21. I'd say. I got my wife into baseball when we were in college and they were respectively good. Now we keep score while we're at games and have our own "Pick The Stick" game during the games we attend. Only so much you can do about the timing. Grey muscle shirts on the other hand...
  22. Could be a picture book. Nobody said anything about a pop-up book, so I think we can eliminate that.
  23. Unless the guy changed his shirt, I suppose.
