  1. Interesting. I'm not sure that it makes sense to trade for somebody to replace Wilson when he's a short term fix due to injury. At least Realmuto would be an upgrade over both of the active roster catching options. This could be an intriguing move organizationally speaking though if you were able to stash him in AAA for a bit.
  2. the play-by-play indicates a hit and an error. I couldn't tell if he was going to be safe or not either, but it was definitely going to be close.
  3. It's a wasted spot if you go 2 weeks without using him. Plus, Magill can fill the long man role. One of them is a wasted spot. Plus, you don't need a mop up guy. You use the relievers that haven't gotten much work lately. Nobody needs a mop up guy. bring in another arm that you can use in close games.
  4. Yup, I am. Adrianza would become a DFA target at that point if Gordon truly is pushing to be brought up. Escobar becomes the utility guy again, filling Adrianza's role. Sano's return is easier to deal with in my view because you don't need to open a 40-man spot like you would with Santana and May. Perhaps that's where Petit gets DFA'd. The Twins already have too many pitchers on the 40 man. It would depend on the timing, but I don't think any of these moves force the hand of the FO to move on from Hughes. I'd hate to see Romero sent back down with how well he's pitching. It's a numbers game at that point and he's got options though. It's possible that they move on from Lynn, but I don't see that happening either.
  5. I'm not really convinced of that. Only two of those are pitchers and a lot can happen between now and then. Assuming no injuries occur before then, it's much easier to send Romero down to make room for Santana and jettison one of the struggling bullpen arms to make room for May. When Polanco is activated, Petit goes back down. When Castro comes back, Wilson gets DFA'd. If the timing is right, Petit gets DFA'd to make room on the 40 man for either Santana or May. There are a couple of DFA options for bullpen arms as well (Magill and maybe Moya?). I don't think their hand will be forced at all. At least no more than it is right now anyway.
  6. This tendency might be what drives nuts the most about the FO. There is no reason to be sacrificing a roster spot on a team that is supposed to be contending. I get that he's owed a bunch of money, but at some point you have to admit to a mistake (that they didn't make) and move on from it.
  7. I don't think that sending Buxton down will help. He's got to learn to hit MLB pitching. He has nothing left to accomplish in the minors. Calling up Gordon to play SS and living with the lumps is on the top of my list. If there's an injury to an outfielder, that's the time to call up Wade. Having him sit on the bench doesn't really help. A healthy Sano should provide a nice bump too.
  8. Fair points, but I'll never understand why players don't get their supplements through the team. The would eliminate any risk of taking something banned. I'm all about personal responsibility, but if I'm a player, I'm getting everything through the team just to be safe.
  9. I would argue that the Twins bats did take the hint.
  10. This would be anti-climactic to me. It's akin to a shootout in hockey. You take a great, hard fought team sport game and turn it into an individual sport that's completely different from the rest of the game. I wouldn't have an issue with having a tie at all. That being said, I don't necessarily mind 18 inning games either.
  11. I don't really think that this solves any problem. It's treating a symptom, but not the disease. the real issue is pace of play. The slow tempo and pace of play results in longer games. Sort out the areas that create the lack of rhythm and tempo and that shortens the game naturally. Minor league games go by in a breeze and they hold your attention because there is a flow to them that isn't there at the MLB level. Cutting two innings off of the end of the game doesn't solve any of the issues that plague baseball. I don't mind a 4-hour game if it's 14-13 because there are things happening. I do mind a 4-hour game if it's 2-1. That's just ridiculous. That reflects a lack of game action, which in my view, is the heart of the problem. I think this suggestion just misses the point.
  12. I'll preface this by stating that I didn't see the game, only the highlights, but it would seem that hanging breaking balls were the story in my view.
  13. I think the disconnect between our stances is that you're trying to use comps to generational stars. My point is that these comparisons are unfair and unreasonable in the first place. Some guys can do it, some can't. It's not an age thing, it's a comparison thing. I'm discouraged that he's not performing too. I have high hopes for him still. Experience is more important than age in the first place. I do expect more out of him than what he's showing. Same goes for Sano. I just don't expect them to be Mike Trout or Ken Griffey, Jr. Comparisons are meaningless, but fact of the matter is that hey both need to hit better. Plain and simple. I think we can both agree on that!
  14. My only point with the age is that he has time to figure it out. Sure, there's a long list of young players that took off immediately. Not everyone does. Everyone has their own learning curve. Comparing anyone to generational greats and then expecting them to live up to it is setting yourself up for disappointment. Frankly, it's unfair to the player. The vast majority of players never even sniff that level talent. There's an even longer list of players that have enormous potential and never realize it. That's what makes the generational greats so rare.
  15. Am I the only one that took his comment as sarcasm?
  16. He's barely had 1,000 PAs and less than two seasons worth of games in the majors and he's only 24. Sure there's reason for concern and he's got to stay on the field, but it's too early to panic yet. If this team is to take that next step though, Buxton and Sano have to figure things out and stay on the field. I do think it was a mistake to not send him on a rehab stint. He wasn't hitting before he got hurt. A short rehab stint, a couple of games, would be a decent way for him to settle in with the bat and get back up to speed. His defense is badly needed, but given how bad this division, there's no need to rush him back.
  17. Anyone expecting Buxton to come in after not playing in 3 weeks and suddenly become a hitting machine is fooling themselves. He wasn't hitting before he got hurt, so taking that much time off and expecting him to come out of the gates on fire with the bat is silly. That's why there are articles about whether or not it was a good idea to not send him on a rehab stint. The fact that he wasn't hitting before probably should have been reason enough to send him on a rehab stint. The team needs his defense, but they need his bat to come alive too. I hope that this doesn't come back to hurt Buxton and/or the team.
  18. Anyone that says that this site isn't educational has no idea what they're talking about. I learn so much from RB's game thread intros!
  19. I'd ask that you not encourage this, but the facts are facts!
  20. Provus' scorecard must be a mess. He's had issues with the Martinezes all day!
  21. I'd rather win this game, thank you very much!
  22. Or you could bring in a PH and swing away and try for a crocked number instead of bunting. Even if you're going to bunt, I'd trust a bench player to be able to do it more than I would a pitcher - especially a pitcher that rarely holds a bat.
  23. That's true, but I interpreted your take on what Molitor said as justification of batting Morrison leadoff. Hence the question. Obviously if that wasn't what he meant then I retract the question.
  24. Isn't the point of a double switch usually to move the pitcher spot further down in the order? What good does one spot do you in a double switch scenario?
