I believe that player evaluation and development are very important. I suspect that hiring one of the top player evaluators from the Brewers could save the Twins millions of dollars over the long run and produce better rosters. I also think that player development is very important, and my sense is that the Twins could do a better job in the minors helping players improve their defense and even their running speed. I love good fundamentals and often feel like vomiting when a Twins player knows less about bunting than some little league players.

My understanding is that teams that suffer from reduced attendance get penalized with respect to revenue sharing. I found this on the Baseball America Website: "To determine who gets a distribution, the commissioner is to compare the club’s non-media net local growth rate to other payee clubs; the club’s success at reducing the total amount of proceeds it" receives under the revenue sharing plan through revenue growth of non-media Net Local Revenue, the club’s total non-media net local revenue compared to its average non-media net local revenue over a five- and 10-year period; the club’s non-media net local revenue in relation to its market score; the club’s total paid attendance in relation to its market score and the club’s long- and short-term efforts to grow its non-media net local revenue. That preceding paragraph is a very wordy way of saying that the commissioner is to dispense the money to teams who receive revenue sharing who are working to increase attendance, fan engagement and improve the marketing and promotions." If I were the new partners I would suggest that the team now show regret for recent performance and seek redemption. It took guts for one of the Pohlads to admit years ago that there was "total system failure." The fans need more of that level of candor, as well as reasons for hope.

If the purchase price is going to the sellers (members of the Pohlad family) then I suspect that none of it will be used to pay down the debt.

I am no longer watching any games -- it's not fun seeing this team play and how they are being managed. Maybe there is a chance that Ryan can spark a win tomorrow, but overall the future seems bleak.

I vastly prefer the TK way. I hate seeing poor fundamentals, and have seen too much of that under Rocco.

Like many, my biggest gripe is the Varland trade.

The point was that Beane developed major advances in player evaluation that were subsequently emulated by most/all other teams. My sense is that the A's did far better as a result, but Beane did not have enough funds available to win a WS.

Maybe one goal for the balance of this season is to land a high draft pick next year?

Based on the movie and what I have read, Beane and his tech guy developed more advanced metrics to evaluate players and find "bargains" that gave the A's more bang for the limited dollars that the team had available.

CBS Sports says: "You could easily argue that Carlos Correa is no longer an impact player at this point. He is having the worst season of is career, after all. The Astros did bring back their former franchise savior though, essentially taking him on as a salary dump in a trade with the Twins, who went scorched earth on the roster. Minnesota is heavily subsidizing Correa, eating $33 million of the $104 million remaining on his contract, but still, Houston is taking a lot of money and a lot of years for a player who appears to be in decline. This is risky, for sure."

It is unclear whether the Twins ate any money to facilitate the trade." I would guess that the Twins will be eating at least $30 million of his future compensation, and I am OK with that.

I think that the new owners might pay for a limo for Mauer. I also think that Mauer might be willing to take a week here and there to give back to the world by teaching young players how to be great.

Maybe Mauer could help develop the young catchers?

I believe that Correa is fading fast and this would be a good move even if the Twins have to eat some of his salary. I also don't see this as discouraging prospective free agents, because Correa would be approving the reunion with his old team. Arguably the Twins would be doing him a favor by allowing him an opportunity to get another ring.

If Falver makes this happen then I will forgive him for his other recent questionable trades.

I hope that the Twins find a way to make this deal. It seems to me that Correa is unlikely to be worth the remaining value of his contract, and based on what I have seen his defense has been declining. Even if this is a salary dump, I am OK with it. Hopefully new owners will come in and use the savings wisely.
