  1. Moderator note -- there is too much bickering here. If it continues then infractions will be assessed against BOTH sides. Please STOP the personal squabbling.
  2. I am the moderator who deleted jimmer's post and my reason was that it was reported as trolling and it seemed like trolling to me: "Just trust Ryan. All the moves he makes, and doesn't make, are the right moves. And every great prospect we have was a result of moves Ryan made. That is why our farm system (including Sano who graduated) is so good. All Ryan. Trust in Ryan!" I have not deleted the other posts that jimmer quoted, because they seem borderline to me. On the one hand, such posts were clearly less civil than they should have been. On the other hand they had some substance that could and did lead to intelligent discussion. As for moderator bias, we have some mods who are ready for TR to go and some who seem to be in the middle. I don't think that any moderator is a strong TR supporter. Finally, if we were bothered by attacks on TR then Dave would have been banned for life a long time ago. Feel free to attack every decision by TR, but be please be substantive and refrain from attacking other posters, bickering and trolling.
  3. Moderator note -- I have just deleted a number of posts that contained personal attacks and bickering. Posters need to follow TD policy or their posting privileges will be suspended. Our policy can be found here: http://twinsdaily.com/topic/8228-twins-daily-comment-policy-latest-revision-september-2013/ As ChiTown and others have noted, we seem to plow a lot of the same ground whenever TR makes a move. The same posters tend to say the same things over and over, and there are clearly two extreme factions and a lot of people in the middle. Let's just try to be more civil.
  4. This is an excellent first post. I hope that you become a regular.
  5. Here is a nice article about today's ceremony: http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/eye-on-baseball/25364308/torii-hunters-retirement-press-conference-too-sore-to-play-anymore It appears that he was having soreness problems: "The last two years, I've been sore," Hunter said, responding to a question about what's different this time. "I've definitely been fighting some soreness. My wife has to push me out of bed. It took me an hour and a half or two hours to get warmed up just to stretch. "I never thought I'd get there this soon. Forty? Man, It's time."
  6. Our founding fathers enshrined slavery into the constitution. Women did not get the right to vote until 1920. Looking back at history through the lens of our current beliefs, our ancestors appear bigoted. It seems to me that this does not mean that they were bad people. If I was taught from an early age that slavery was a good thing and, after all, it is sanctioned in the Old Testament, then I think that it might take some outside enlightenment to change this view, which is ultimately what happened through the efforts of the abolitionists, journalists and novelists. As for Torii, he should know better, but so should millions of other people, including people who are now running for President. We each evolve at our own rate. Now that Torii will have more free time, maybe he will evolve faster. But I am far more concerned about people who hold archaic views who may be nominating Supreme Court justices who have the same views. Finally, let's tone down the bickering in this thread. We are better than this.
  7. I find it interesting that Wilson Ramos is in the running for the AL catcher gold glove.
  8. Congratulations to Molitor. It seems to me that this is well deserved.
  9. Moderator note - please tone down the personal attacks and bickering. I just deleted a bunch of posts and we will start handing out infraction points if the bickering continues. I appreciate the strong convictions on both sides of this, but the integrity of our forums depends on keeping the discussion RESPECTFUL.
  10. The "Catch" lounge seems to me like a skybox area at a bargain price. At 120 people, this seems like very small potatoes in the context of a stadium that seats more than 39,000 people -- far less than 1% of overall capacity. I suspect that this is just a toe in the water and the plan is to expand this if it is successful. I agree that it would be great for some families to have areas where kids can blow off steam. I also respect those who don't want kids distracting from their enjoyment of the game. It seems to me that everyone could be better off if there were attractions for kids adjacent to seating that is designated for families. This would make games more appealing to families and would siphon kids away from adults who don't want them distracting from the game. Also, for very little money the Twins could add a female bear and have a contest where kids vote on a name for the bear. A unique approach might be to replicate the Catch lounge for families and family groups-- a juice bar instead of alcohol, some small batting cages using tees, extra visits from TC bear (and new female bear), face painting, etc. This would keep the kids far away from those who would be annoyed by the kids, and the parents could watch the game without worry that the kids can leave the safe area (which would be secured). Yes, this would be somewhat like Chuck E Cheese, but if it were walled off like Catch, then it would not disturb the hardcore fans. Question for those who have kids -- does this sound appealing? Maybe the Twins would not consider this, because the revenue per kid would need to be much lower than the revenue per adult at the Catch. However, it seems to me that until the Twins can get back to anything near full attendance, this would be profitable, even if less profitable than Catch. A seat that brings in $30 of net revenue is not as profitable as a seat that brings in $80, BUT an empty seat brings in $0. Also, over the long run this would create more customers and higher TV ratings. Also, if this does not work, the same infrastructure could be converted to a bar.
  11. Only 7 more days. I wish that I had an Eric Cartman time machine.
  12. These are some excellent lists. Nice work and a good discussion. Kudos to Diehard for starting this thread. I hope to see more lists.
  13. It seems to me that FDR was more of a socialist than Bernie. FDR advocated top marginal tax rates of more than 90% and created government agencies that provided millions of jobs.
  14. If I were Bernie I would treat FDR as the Democratic party's Ronald Reagan. FDR brought us Social Security, a socialistic program that has kept tens of millions of seniors out of severe poverty, and FDR's tax policy was much more socialistic than what Bernie is proposing. Compared with FDR, Bernie's policies seem conservative. I would also counsel Bernie to focus on doing more with less taxpayer funds. There is a lot of waste and inefficiency in almost every department of the federal government, and this should be a bipartisan issue. My best guess is that with better organization and greater accountability we could cut expenses by $200 billion per year or more while ending up with a military that is more suited to our needs and social programs that provide better results for our fellow citizens.
  15. I agree that Damon was good in this, and I am not a Damon fan.
  16. It appears that Taylor Rogers had a good game today -- he started the game and had one earned run in 4 innings and 5 strikeouts. Interestingly, neither Twins catcher played, and ABW DH'd and went 1 for 4 with a walk and two Ks. http://mlb.mlb.com/milb/stats/stats.jsp?gid=2015_10_14_srrwin_scowin_1&t=g_box&sid=l119
  17. At a game in Anaheim two or three years ago I watched Morneau give autographs to young Twins fans for about 15 minutes. He was friendly and focused on singing as many items as possible. No other Twins player gave autographs that night.
  18. Moderator note -- too much bickering in this thread. Obviously, there are some strong disagreements here. Please focus on facts and refrain from characterizing other people's positions as silly.
  19. Hopefully this is nothing, but it's hard not to worry. http://www.startribune.com/dozier-to-have-mri-ryan-sees-lots-of-areas-to-upgrade/330909051/ From the article linked above: "the soreness is not considered serious, Ryan said, and the magnetic resonance imaging test is more a precaution than a precursor to surgery."
  20. Moderator note -- there are lots of new and good ideas in this thread. I am grateful that people are not dragging in ideas that are already being debated on other threads. Kudos to the people who have posted above.
  21. I wonder where Nunez ranks compared with other utility players in terms of hitting and defense. Also, I would miss watching him run the bases.

  23. The Twins have been emailing the following video to fans -- http://m.mlb.com/min/video/v519821083/twins-players-thank-fans-for-their-support-in-2015/?partnerId=ed-9796183-839745283
  24. I worry about Sano being able to stay healthy, especially at third base. Maybe it makes sense to keep Plouffe and have him platoon with Sano and third and with Mauer at first, at least until Sano can show that he can stay healthy.
