  1. Buxton needs some time in AAA. Start Santana in CF. Sign a cheap defensive OF to spell Arcia or Sano (if not at 3B) in the late innings. Sign an expensive top reliever. Trade Plouffe only if return value has upside (no Hoey caliber talent).
  2. Berios was a 1st sup pick.
  3. Comparing (ranking) two prospects, I believe the best method is which player would you be willing to trade. Javier vs Turner Javier vs Navaretto It's not close. Obviously the Twins think very highly to use their whole int'l pool on him.
  4. Navaretto, Turner, and Rogers are too high. Navaretto and Turner look to be back-up catchers. Rogers looks like a LOOGY.
  5. Pelfrey starting is like going to the dentist. The first three innings is like sitting in the lobby. The next three innings is like hearing the drill grind on your teeth. See if Pelfrey becomes a Wade Davis in the bullpen. Bring up Berrios or Rogers for spot starts (8/15, 8/20, 8/29). Besides the three spot starts, use the roster spot for a bullpen/bench player.
  6. Trades are dependent on timing. Ryan felt obliged to boost the bullpen because they were in the 2nd wild card position. That's his failure. With no E. Santana for the playoffs the Twins don't have a staff to overcome a wild card game and the next series. If he felt he had no relief options in the minors he should have called up some starters. 2015 has been nice but the GM role is to look at the bigger picture which is increase assets for 2016 to 2022. Getting a 31 yr old RP with 20 walks in 33 innings for Hu and Tapia is not increasing assets.
  7. Ryan will say that they have Jepsen for 2016 ($4 mil). 2015 does not matter (Hughes and Gibson) is not enough for the playoffs especially after a one game wild card game. Instead they should have demoted Pelfry to the bullpen and hoped he was a Wade Davis II. Earlier this week Ryan said he would do Ramos for Capps again. Is he just being stubborn or does he just over values RP?
  8. Don't trade a top ten (maybe not even a top twenty) prospect for any rental. 2015 has been a nice surprise but the Twins don't have E. Santana in the playoffs and young developing club. Any substantial trade must point to 2016 to 2022.
  9. How about getting Ramos and Hardy to fill our C and SS holes? Do you think we could trade useless and ineffective RP for them?
  10. Get quality instead of quantity. The Twins system has plenty of depth. It needs more elite players. Would you trade a top 5 pick in the draft for three second round picks? I understand baseball doesn't allow draft pick trading.
  11. Stauffer's track record and contract made no sense. Hopefully Ryan learns to get only the cheap guys like Boyer for Spring training bullpen tryouts. Even better, hopefully the strong bullpen arms in AA make significant progress in 2015.
  12. After watching Jay's start against Vandy, it's obvious he needs a change-up. He probably never used his change-up since most hitters couldn't catch up to his hard stuff. However, his fastball, curve, and slider look good. Send him down to TN (tax reasons) and then bring him up to Cedar Rapids and just let him develop.
  13. Deron Johnson has demonstrated the past few years to favor potential over higher floor guys. I like his strategy of getting high velocity arms. Get 10-12 in the farm system and hope 5-6 can excel in the bullpen. Less than 20% of the players drafted in rounds 4-10 make the majors and very few become impact players (Dozier being one of the exceptions). The senior picks help pay for the earlier prep picks.
  14. Follow the same blue print as the Cubs (Epstein). The Twins are built to be good for at least the next six years if not longer if they don't trade their low cost assets for high cost assets. Without any large long term salaries, the Twins will be able to extend their young players once they get established just like Dozier. At the trade deadline, unless the Twins are dominant I would attempt to deal Pelfrey if he's still pitching well. Trade Nolasco at any time if you can find a buyer.
  15. I would take Aiken. He has the most upside. If the updated medicals don't look good in July, then don't sign him and get the 7th pick in a stronger draft next year.
  16. Molitor gets credit for a few of the small things that separates good managers from average managers. - Base running - Bringing Perkins into the 8th inning It seems that he encourages the young players. Neil Allen (from Sarasota) may be the pitching coach but obviously the manager has influence on pitch selection and strategy.
  17. Benintendi was the Ohio HS Player of the Year two years ago. So he does have a track record. If you watch him play, you want him on your team. He reminds me of Jacoby Ellsbury. If the Twins could strike an under slot deal with him, I would be on board.
  18. Gibson threw yesterday like a ace. If he can consistently throw his change-up like yesterday he will take a big step forward in being a top pitcher (#1 or #2).
  19. Two reasons to move to the bullpen: - Simplify his pitching mechanics - Help MLB club this year Nothing says he'll stay in the bullpen or return to be a starting pitcher next year. Trade - results & timing - Results will be uneven in the short term when you trade a veteran for a prospect - Span would have help the Twins win 4-5 wins a year for the past three years - who cares. The Twins timing to win is the next six years and hopefully more after that.
  20. I'm in the minority opinion but Bregman doesn't look like a elite player. He doesn't have elite speed, arm, nor power. He will move to 2B before he gets to MLB. Outside of the top three, Tucker and Harris seem promising and Fulmer is just unhittable. If Brady Aiken's medicals look normal for a TJ patient before the draft and he agrees to sign for slot then I would take him. Remember Lucas Giolito (#6 overall prospect) had TJ while a HS senior.
  21. I don't see Bregman staying at SS and he looks like a good player but not a great prospect. Assuming Rodgers, Tate, and Swanson are gone, I would roll the dice on Aiken. However, the Twins will probably not. Allard (if heathly), Tucker, Nikorak, Harris, and Fullmer (he's probably too short for the Twins) are intriguing.
  22. #1 arm killer is over usage not curve balls. Now there are plenty of stupid coaches who keep a kid in the game after the Fast Ball is spent and then lean on the curve ball to squeeze a few more innings. Or coaches use a kid to pitch a few times over a long weekend tournament. Or pitchers pitch all year long without any shutdown time. Here in Florida, it's absolutely crazy the number of games we play - basically we only shut down during August and December. I know a number of HS pitchers who have had TJ. I didn't allow my son to pitch four months a year and during the Fall only a few innings every other week. Besides over usage, I think the elite high velocity pitchers are hitting a human limitation that the arm is going so fast that the ligaments eventually breakdown. No scientific proof, just my belief why TJ hits more high Velo guys. .
