  1. Those must include major major league splits also. Too many plate appearances.
  2. It has been trending more that way every year. It hasn't been a run suppressing park since 2011. The home run change this year moved the ranking from around 10 to 3. I wouldn't believe the hr number unless it stayed through this year and the next.
  3. He has used one option, but he does need a 40 man roster spot. There will be others as contending teams add in July. The Twins should be paying attention. Even moves where you claim and then remove should be considered.
  4. I am not sure I get it. I don't think the a Twins need to trade for him. There may be opportunities on the 40 man roster as a result of trading a player like Correia or Burton or Guerrier who will not be with the team next year for a class A that doesn't need to be on the 40. The waiver claim addition to the 40 is the extra in the deal. With possible openings on the 40, shouldn't the Twins be considering these opportunities?
  5. The Cardinals designated Mike O'Neill to make space for George Kottaras. Really unusual numbers. He has a career OBP in the minors of .418 without power or steals. In 2013, he has 97 walks and 37 strike outs. He has options, but would need to be on the 40. Is he worth a look in Rochester and a spot on the 40? As teams make moves in July, there will be more players that will be available having been taken off the 40. The Twins should be paying attention. They may create some space if they can move a Burton or Guerrier or Florimon for a C prospect in A ball.
  6. Thoughts on Suzuki from Viva El Birdos http://www.vivaelbirdos.com/2014/7/11/5888935/st-louis-cardinals-trade-rumors-kurt-suzuki-yadier-molina-twins
  7. Cardinals claimed George Kottaras. I guess they prefer him over Pierzynski and Buck.
  8. An important nit to pick. Guaranteeing a Teheran might be worth the expense. The Yankees aren't getting every international signing though. In 2007 they also cornered the market paying out 4 of the top 10 bonuses. They missed on Teheran.
  9. Players like Willingham will never have good value in the summer. Teams are never desperate for a LF or DH. They have someone who can do the job. Every summer guys like Soriano or Reynolds are released. The only place where there is less value due to more supply is relief pitchers. Relief pitchers will be moved. Bats like Willingham will be moved. None of those trade will be exciting.
  10. My fear is that Suzuki will be given a two year extension and perform like he did in 2012 and 2013.
  11. In response a few questions... I chose 2006-2007 because those players are now 23-24 and teams have had to make 40 man roster decisions as well as option decisions on those players. The players listed are ranked by value of contract signed. I went that direction based on listening to Kiley McDaniel and how he views rankings of international prospects. It might be interesting to go back to 2000-2001 and see if there is any correlation between dollars spent on an international prospect and WAR. It sure doesn't look like the correlation will be significant for 2006-2007. As some have pointed out, scouting may have become more reliable in 2014. At least in 2006-2007, it looks like the talent of the scout trumps the size of the pocketbook. The Yankees must be hoping that trend has reversed for 2014.
  12. The Twins will keep Dozier. No one is going to blow them away with an offer. He isn't going to be the game changer for a team in the playoffs. Elite starting pitching can be a game changer. Those guys will get a return beyond their value.
  13. The Twins can't wait to long on Suzuki. There will be other guys available. Want an elite pitch framer? Jose Molina and Rene Rivera could be available. Cardinals could be a fit. Have some money? How about Miguel Montero? Dodgers could be a fit. Want some team control? Jason Castro could fit the Blue Jays or Dodgers. Carlos Ruiz should be playing again after the break. He would be an inexpensive short term buy. The Orioles could be a fit. Someone will give A.J. an opportunity. If the prospect cost is reasonable, Kurt Suzuki would be a better fit in some of these places. Can the Twins leverage enough return without pricing him out of the market? Might the Twins be willing to take a little less from the Orioles or Cards knowing that they would not retain Suzuki in 2015?
  14. I am on board. The Twins need to sweep the Rockies on the way to a 12-4 record in the next 16 games to roll with this season. Anything short of that performance and the Twins sell aggressively. Sign me up.
  15. I think Correia would have to be a end of July deal. I think teams would pursue a better solution and settle for Correia at the end. I hope I am wrong and he is dealt early. They need to be ready to move Suzuki at the first good deal.
  16. Leaves open the possibility of resigning Suzuki for 2015 in the winter and pocketing a prospect or two. I wonder how much the Cardinals care about pitch framing. I don't remember them being among the teams interviewed by Ben Lindbergh in his series of articles last year.
  17. You can view the page at http://twinsdaily.com/content.php/3191-International-Signings-How-many-of-the-top-signings-make-it
  18. I agree. You don't usually find catchers DFA'd in the summer that you might start for a winning team. That is part of why catchers, shortstops and centerfielders return more in trade. On the other hand, there are multiple cheap veteran bats available like Soriano every year. It is hard to get anything in return for Willingham and Morales when the cost of a Soriano is so little.
  19. It is interesting to see Rosario and Hicks performing at the same level. Hicks certainly looks to be the more ready player. In fact Hicks is tied with Dozier for 5th on the team in OBP. Pinto would be 9th. As much as they were criticized by the organization, it sure seemed like he Twins were playing better when these flawed younger players were in the line up and getting on base. At least we now have veterans who know how to go about their business.
  20. We are fortunate the Twins didn't extend him while he was so hot.
  21. This will eliminate one possible trade destination for Suzuki. The Blue Jays, Orioles and Dodgers are teams potentially interested in a catcher. It may also speed up the process faster then the Twins are willing. They may get a call from a team preferring Suzuki but ready to make a deal for Pierzynski (while in DFA limbo) if the Twins don't respond quickly. I hope the Twins are ready to deal.
  22. I don't care about the age of the place holders. I just don't want to see place holders. Instead of signing Kubel, look for a JD Martinez or Juan Francisco or Yangervis Solarte. Play Parmelee regularly instead of sporadically while Doumit played. Pinto gets a long look as the regular catcher. Hendriks is in the rotation for the year. Achter and Tomkin are in the pen. Don't give away Worley. Sign minor league free agents with some upside of age rather than decline phase players. All of these guys don't need to work out, find one and they are better off in the future. If place holders are a must, the Cubs have been signing place holders to one year contracts and trading them. Better strategy. Flip them and sign another next winter. The Twins have a lot of place holders. If they show any sign of success, they give them extensions and play them until they have no value.
  23. Thanks for the good work. I hoping the a Twins stay away from decline phase pitchers until they have a foundation. There aren't many guys like a Hughes that hit free agency so young, but having the upside of age is critical to a team that needs to tear down and rebuild.
  24. I don't think this would stop the Twins from signing another player long term when Nolasco's contract expires after the 2017 season. As for next year, I don't think another Nolasco like contract was going to happen this winter injury or not.
