  1. Has anyone else noticed that DaveW is a partial anagram for both Thad Levine and Derek Falvey +W?
  2. I would think any action will wait until Monday, as the Dodgers are known to keep holy the Sabbath.
  3. There's still so much suspense---Looks like I picked the wrong week to quit sniffing glue!
  4. I'm so depressed, I half expect news to break that Buxton and Sano are going to jail for running an illegal child fighting ring under Target Field... But that was a nice catch to rob a homer last night!
  5. I heard about a guy in the A's front office:
  6. Doctor says he need a backeotomy.
  7. Doesn't basically every player get put on waivers?
  8. He can become arbitration eligible after this year, if he wants, which he will. I say make the trade. Ervin Santana is valuable to us, but might be a reasonable swap.
  9. Still quiet on the Desmond front: http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2016/01/rays-interested-ian-desmond.html He might be down to looking at a 3 year deal at this point. As someone pointed out above, this whole thing is reminiscent of Stephen Drew, but I think Desmond's track record is a bit better overall. I wouldn't mind him at 3 years $42 million for potentially a 20/20 type player. ***If*** our prospects pan out and are ready in 2 years, I'd consider that a good problem to have.
  10. So would anyone try to go after Hedges or Norris at this point? SD has lots of catching talent, but none of their catchers are really MLB proven yet.
  11. I would take Norris for Arcia and Meyer in a heartbeat. 3 more years of team control, entering offensive prime years, and leaving Petco park all look favorable. Upton is leaving the Padres as a FA this fall, so maybe Arcia fills their need for MLB ready corner outfielder.
  12. MLB Trade Rumors suggests the O's are shopping Ubaldo Jimenez and are willing to eat some of the 38.75 million he is due over the next 3 years, or possibly swap a bad contract. Should the Twins be interested? I don't think they are looking for another bad pitching contract (Nolasco), but maybe they could take on some salary and we could trade a few mid level prospects for this relatively young, successful starting pitcher with a good career K rate? His walk rate was alarmingly bad this year, but I think well above his career average.
  13. The Yankees released infield prospect David Adams to clear roster space for Vernon Wells. He has a pretty nice batting line in the minors with an .835 OPS at AA last year. What is wrong with him, and why shouldn't the Twins acquire him? David Adams - m.bbref.com
  14. Olt would still be under team control for a long time, helping us start to contend in 2014-15 when our pitching prospects start to hit the big leagues, while Mauer is hopefully still and excellent catcher and not just a DH/1B. If we wait for Buxton to make a run, I am not sure which veterans we will have left. I don't think it is a "trade-happy attitude", but possibly a shrewd move to get our young talented players in sync.
  15. Beltre is under contract through 2015 with a vesting option for 2016, and Texas has already shown they were willing to move Olt when they were in discussions for Upton. Sano will probably have to move to a corner outfield spot before getting up to Minnesota, so we don't have a great realistic 3B of the future unless Plouffe figures things out. Buxton might have a high ceiling, but he is still a prospect that might not pan out---Olt appears to be a MLB ready 3B. Even better, Plouffe could return to SS or go to 2B---perhaps he was cured of Chuck Knoblauch Syndrome during his first full year, and he won't make so many throwing errors from SS this time around.
  16. Would you do it? Texas doesn't need him, and we do.
  17. While it would be nice if our newly acquired pitching prospects could contribute in 2014, it remains likely that we'll need to bring in some outside help. Am I premature in thinking about potential free agents pitchers next offseason? The answer, of course, is yes. The Twins never seem to risk it all on massive contracts for pitchers, but will Tim Lincecum's nightmarish 2012 knock him down into our realm? Is he done as an ace pitcher? Who else is entering free agency after the 2013 season? Will draft pick compensation affect who we sign?
  18. He can be good, and he's still young. How much will it take?
  19. It would be pretty sweet if the Twins teamed up with the St. Paul Saints to have an affiliate share the new Midway Stadium. The Pohlads would probably save a bundle on airfare for all of the AAA journeymen pitchers the big league team will be cycling through the next few years if they can just take the 50 express across town.
  20. The Natural. Roy Hobbs is the best character from any of the baseball movies. Is it wrong that I want a New York Knights jersey?
