  1. I hate to make this comment at all, but I will. I think wearing the Twins jersey is embarrassing enough at this point.
  2. But if the Saints were affiliated with the Twins, I would be far less likely to get really drunk while tailgating and not wonder in to the game until the 5th inning. And where would the hot tubs go? And would they get rid of dollar beer night? So many questions. This is actually really exciting news. It would be really cool to see some young players in the system, possibly right after they are drafted.
  3. Sounds like fun. Why did I decide to take a summer class this year? While you are all talking twins and watching the game, I'll be shoulder deep in an accounting final. Maybe next time.
  4. I'm only watching on gameday right now, but I can say that it is usually pretty sharp. Judging by the score and Oakland only having 3 hits to this point, I'm assuming that Cole has it working pretty good. His curve is the best pitch that I've seen him throw.
  5. Can't you imagine all the complaints that would be happening on TD if the Twins had drafted him? That really is too bad though. It sucks to hear about guys getting seriously injured that early in their careers. I can't say I didn't see it coming though.
  6. Seeing as how I have $100 on them winning at least 69 games, I hope that they will at least get that many. How many do I expect? I'm not really sure. Let's say 70.
  7. I think that the Rick Eagerbeef card was my favorite.
  8. I would bet that Darvish will get more votes than Diamond. He's pretty high profile. Does he deserve more votes than Diamond, I don't think so. But he's a very high profile guy and he does have 162 K's up to this point and he still makes the front page of ESPN.com on occasion. I'm not saying that only looking at stirkeouts and ESPN hits should determine who gets the ROY, but he still has a lot of hype around him, and that's hard to get away from. I hope I'm wrong about that though and Diamond ends up being second in ROY votes (like Seth said, Trout will definitely win it).
  9. The Florimonster got his call up. He's headed to Minnesota. Although it probably has more to do with his defense (and Brian Dozier's performance) than his offensive prowess. This will be his second time seeing time at the show (He came up with the Orioles for 4 games) Here are his 2012 AAA numbers: Batting: .251/.308./.344 with 16 2B, 2 3B and 3 HRs. Fielding: .974 Fld%, 9 Errors and a 4.41 RF/G His defense is definitely the reason he's getting a shot at the show again. Let's hop that he has a very good debut. Good Luck Pedro!
  10. It might have more to do with Mornie needing a little break more than Joe needing time away from catcher. I could be completely wrong though too.
  11. I'm voting non-tendered as well. There are cheaper options like Escobar and Florimon, like you said. I'm going to have ask for one of those OPS+ years back. In 2010 it was 100, but he only had 170 PA. Who knows if he could have kept that up if he was starter all season with 500+ PA (which he has never done). His career OPS+ is 71, which isn't very good, even for a middle infielder. But like you said, when he's off, is is definitely off. I'm sure he will catch on with some other team. I would guess that it's probably a minor league deal with an invite to make the team out of spring training.
  12. Not exactly a ringing endorsement! Nishi/Cuddyer at 2B last season was a reason why our defense was so putrid. I like Mastro, but let's not kid ourselves, he isn't exactly Soriano in his prime with the bat, if the guy was hitting for a .850 OPS with 25 HR then maybe you can live with crappy defense at 2B, but I doubt he will hit enough to justify having such an issue defensively in the MI. With that said, let him get a few games at 2B to see what he has, just don't expect him to be anything better then below average at best. It's definitely a trade off. No, he's not going to be Soriano, but does he have to be? I think the comparison is how is he vs. Casilla? How much better on offense does he have to be to make up for (speculative) worse defense?
  13. DickBert were talking about him during the game last night (for decent enough reasons). They mentioned that he takes infield practice at 2B during batting practice. So, it sounds like he's making sure that the team knows he can play there. How well he plays there, I don't know. I'm guessing that Toronto probably moved him because of his speed, they thought he would be valuable in the outfield. I think he is valuable there, but I would also like to see him try out 2B a little to see if he can handle it in a game situation. If for nothing else but to see if you can play him in some sort of super utility role. If he can get to that point, great. If he can't play 2B, then you still have a 4th OF/bench guy. There's not a ton of risk in trying it out.
  14. I heard the statement last night. My eyebrow raised for a second, especially after saying that Thome was a member of the team. And then I continued watching the game and forgot about the comment. It wasn't Bremer's finest word choice, but I don't think he meant it the way some are interpreting. If he wants to apologize to Delmon, fine. If not, I don't think anyone will really notice.
  15. Oh man, that is double good news. And now, we can stop complaining about Nishi.
  16. I agree with everything you said here. Adam Walker does seem to be killing the ball. He'll be exciting to watch for a while. I could see him moving up quickly if cuts down on the strikeouts (small sample size, but 53K's in 182 PA).
  17. I know he lost the ball in the sun. That does happen. I wasn't that mad about that part. It was more his reaction. I'm sure he turned to look for direction from Span or Dozier, but he didn't exactly go after the ball after it landed.
  18. I saw that one when I was at work. He lost the ball, turned his back and just walked away. He then saw it land and continued walking away like the play didn't count or something like that. Revere had to pick up the ball and throw it in. I hope his translator conveyed the tone properly when Gardy was screaming at him in the club house.
  19. **I don't believe Mauer is getting comeback player of the year. Even though he only played 82 games, he still had a slash line .289/.360/.368. Definitely his worst year, but that would be a career year for some. I know DJP threw out Dunn's name for comeback player, but his average is still way down at .201. He's hitting bombs for sure, but I don't see it for him either. If Mornie keeps up his current pace, he might get it. If he hits 25 HRs, and continues to hit left handed pitching. I think it would be proof that he's past his injuries. That might just win him that comeback player of the year award. One player that might give Mornie a run for his money is Alex Rios: Rios: 2011: .227/.265/.348 with 22 2B, 2 3B and 13 HRs 2012: .318/.349/.544 with 27 2B, 6 3B and 18 HRs. For comparision, here is Morneau's: 2011: .227/.285/.333 with 16 2B, 0 3B and 4 HRs 2012: .274/.333/.467 with 22 2B, 1 3B and 15 HRs.
  20. 1. 78 would be great, but I'm shooting for at least 69 (I have a $100 bet on the Twins winning at least 69 games with my buddy... a White Sox fan). 2. I can see it happening. He's not really slowing down too much, so 40 is not out of the question. 3. ** See full Answer Below** 4. 100% agree 5. That's only 30 points higher than what he's at, and with his current hot streak, I see no reason to dispute this prediction. 6. I really think DeVries is the guy to do this. He's already been pitching well, and I really think that he's taking ques from Diamond about mixing speed and location, and he's getting decent results from that.
  21. Also good choices. I think I just enjoy seeing new teams in the playoffs in general. Except the Twins. I always enjoy when they get into the playoffs, even if they don't end up doing very well.
  22. Agreed with this 100%. Hopefully, Pavano takes the classy way out and decides to retire. Maybe we can convince him to be a coach somewhere in the system.
  23. Agreed with everything here. The Pirates have come a long way and I would love to see them get deep in the playoffs. The A's have been a huge surprise, but that's always what people say when they put together a team. I can't help but cheer for small market teams though.
  24. That makes more sense. As for the Matt Pavano, I was going for names of guys on the DL. So that name would work if I adopted a cat with health issues.
  25. It hides skin blemishes. Yeah, I can't put much stock in this article. I did a decent enough job of clarifying that there are very, very few #1 starters. But I knew that already, so I didn't gain much from this one.
