  1. I would expect that a large portion of MLB player will be placed on trade waivers. It seems like many players are put on waivers just to gauge the interest of other clubs. I don't think Mauer will be placed on waivers, and if he were and was claimed, he almost certainly would be pulled back immediately. I'm betting that Pavano probably clears waivers and Capps is probably claimed, if he goes out and has a few good outings in early August.
  2. Kenny Williams.... ...wait.... no, not him.
  3. Personally, I was just getting into Nick's Twins Blog and then he went and shut down on me. At first, I didn't expect a lot out of TD. I would say it took all of two days at most to change my mind. I check this site almost every day. Thanks for making this my favorite baseball site. Keep up the good work and congratulations on a great first 6 months.
  4. I'm a little surprised Revere isn't in the lineup as well. He actually has a better BA against lefty pitchers. He did steal a bunch last night... maybe he's tired.

And playing for the Twins tonight: Denard Span Josh Willingham Justin Morneau Jamey Caroll Jared Burton... The same people we saw last night.
  6. Dick and Bert mentioned that a deal had to be approved by the commissioner by the dead line. That was coming from Dick and Bert, so who knows how accurate that info is.
  7. It could be that. I think Joe's been watching the movement of Liriano's pitches since 2006 might help him some too. Minus injury time of course.
  8. ++++++ I think it's no secret that the Twins need starting pitching. Good starting pitching.
  9. I would probably be happy with a return in that range.
  10. I think there are enough relievers at AAA that thee loss of Burton wouldn't cause too much strain on the system. He has been pitching very well this year, I hope the Twins can get something good for him.
  11. Can we replace it with "Pitch to Collision"?
  12. I like Burton, and I think he's valuable, but if the Rangers are offering something good for him, then I say ship him out.
  13. After I saw what Philly got in return for Pence, I retract my previous comments about Span comparison.
  14. I would think that the Pence deal would be a closer comparison than the Victorino deal. That's all. I don't think that it will improve Span's value.
  15. Giants acquire Hunter Pence. When the details come out for this trade, this should give a better idea of what we should be looking for with a Span trade. TR, you get the details and make some calls. You have 3.5 hours to get a great deal in place and have it approved by the commissioner. But only pull the trigger if it is a great deal. Edit: I hope TR is actually on the phones trying to make some deals and not reading my posts on this site right now.
  16. His value will still be high in the offseason. Maybe just as high. So there is no harm in waiting if we don't get the offer we want today.
  17. Seth, I don't think you understand, the Twins could have all three of those guys. TR is just not trying hard enough to get them. (I really hope the sarcasm came through on that one). I get a lot of weird vibes from some posters on this site that really think that other teams are just going to give up those types of prospects to get Span or Willingham. Is it possible, not without a lot of extras thrown in there. Starting pitching prospects with #1 type stuff are the most coveted pieces in an organization now. It takes a lot to pry one away from a team.
  18. My guess: 5 IP 10 H 5 ER 6BB 6K Very much a guess. I'm betting he's nervous and he end up serving up some meatballs. Another question is how long will Blackburn's start?
  19. Oh man... my prediction might actually happen.
  20. Walk off hit by Span... I'm calling it now.
  21. That is where we are in complete agreement. Except I am unclear as how TR will mote an offseason to male the team... I'm sorry, those were just interesting typos. I'm not trying to be a dick.
  22. Mike, you can be pessimistic, but I don't blame you for it. I don't always agree with your opinions, but I usually think they're well thought out. So, no complaint there from me. Cdog had it right though, there is a second category of posters on this site that are here solely to complain without using any facts to back themselves up. To those people, it is best just to ignore them and move on. As for the original topic, I think TR has had a rough go of it this year. I think he has done some good things, but he's made some mistakes (Marquis). I personally am not ready to call the Liriano trade a complete bust yet... yet. I'm not even ready to call the Delmon Young trade a bust yet (I think Oliveros might have some value sooner rather than later). I will, of course, be willing to eat my words at any time when it becomes completely apparent that I am wrong.
