  1. Another good spot to check out if you're into craft beers is the Fulton Tap room. It's just a few blocks from the light rail stop at TF. They make some good beers and there's usually a food truck in the parking lot before the game that usually serves some good food and should be a little cheaper than the food at the field.
  2. You're also assuming that they didn't even try to pick him up. The Diamondbacks gave up more than I would have expected for a guy like that.
  3. I watched it on Neflix about a week ago. I didn't even think to post the fact that it was on Netflix on TD. I finally got to see this movie, and I thought it was very well done. It was also confused why no other team in the MLB called BS on Rene Gayo's accusations about Sano. Although, I do understand why a team would be reluctant to pay millions of dollars to find out that a player is not actually who they say they are. I'm not 100% sure why it took so long to clear up with Sano either (and why there are still questions). There may be more facts or questions that weren't brought up in the movie that would make a team question his age/identity though. Either way, it was a good movie and I would recommend it to any Twins fan for sure and probably some non-Twins/baseball fans as well.
  4. 64 1/2 !?!?!?! I know the Twins are going to be bad this year, but I don't expect them to THAT bad. I would take the over for sure.
  5. Or Hicks will be a bust... or he'll be really good and he can move to LF and have an amazing outfield... Or Buxton won't pan out... or that extra year of team control will allow the Twins to trade him for a better player than they would have gotten without the team control (one of the reasons both Span and Revere brought the return that they did). Any way about it, an extra year of team control for a potential impact player is a good thing to have.
  6. Or they could just put three really good looking girls out there to dance. I bet most of the guys on this site would think that would improve the dance off a lot.
  7. I am thinking low 70's. I'm hoping to be shocked an we end up in the .500 range, but who knows.
  8. That's a reasonably good assumption.

    Better than the Numbers

I agree with you completely on this. I think the advanced stats that have been introduced with sabermetrics do a better job of trying to isolate individual performance than traditional stats, but like you said, it doesn't tell the whole story. I don't think that we should stop trying to find these new stats just because we haven't found the perfect one yet. Maybe we never will, but that doesn't mean we can't keep trying. Until then though, there will definitely be people that are "better than the numbers."

    Better than the Numbers

I usually think of "better than their numbers" really applies to traditional statistics. No statistic has everything that can really everything about a player though. Some of the traditional statistics are really skewed because they're dependent on the other players. I don't know how much you're into sabermetrics, but if you haven't really had a chance to get that deep into them, Baseball Prospectus compiled a book of articles that really does a pretty good job explaining some of the stats. It uses really good examples to explain different stats, but it also makes you think about everything that different stats are trying to explain. The book is called "Baseball Between the Numbers". Even if you don't trust Sabermetrics all that much, you can at least understand what they're trying to achieve with some of the stats they talk about. 11. Vargas was suspended 50 games for violating the MiLB drug policy after testing positive for phentermine, which can be used to help with weight loss. He missed the final 18 games of 2011 and the suspension carried over into 2012. That's why his "games played" stat looks low.
  12. The rosters are not released yet. I believe that Joe Mauer is on team USA. They mentioned his name when Ryan Braun announced he would play. Team USA keeps announcing names for their roster, and so far, the team is looking pretty damn good. The official rosters are being announced on Jan 17th.
  13. Should anyone be expecting another 30+ bombs? I know the past two years have been going very well for him, but those are some hefty numbers. The other question is, if he falls back to career norms of "only" 22 HRs, would anyone really be disappointed with that production as well? (That is assuming there in no drastic change to BA and OBP that accompanies that).
  14. You mean that Hicks has a Rookie of the Year type season, right?
  15. Marcum would be the number 1 in my ideal rotation. Until he's signed, I'm not going to pencil him in there just yet. With who we have, I would go: 1. Worley 2. Diamond 3. Pelfrey 4. Correia 5. Hendriks Gibson will obviously show up at some point in June. I like the idea of Hendriks in the rotation. Throw him in the fire and see how he does. I think he has the "stuff" to be a competent in the MLB.
  16. I think you hit the nail on the head with this one. I can't see the Twins firing a manager, especially not the beloved Gardy (I know that not everyone loves him, but he's generally well liked by fans). I'm pretty sure that they told him they weren't going to renew his contract, but they weren't going to directly fire him, giving him a chance to stay with the organization in another role. It's going to be very Minnesota passive/aggressive.
  17. I have to admit that I laughed at this one. 2013 probably won't be kind to the Twins, but hopefully we start to see some of the new guys start to come up and give us hope for 2014. Well done on the list.
  18. How much money do you make a year? Why can't the rest of us know? For the record, I don't really want to know. But as vodkadave said, it's a private company. They don't have to disclose anything at all if they don't want to, just like you don't have to disclose that sort of thing to me or the rest of the TD community. The minor league costs are a little different, because minor league teams are generally not owned by the MLB team (with a few exceptions). So, there you're asking for financial information from more than one private company. If you want to look at financial statements for some teams, some of them were leaked a while ago. The Twins were not one of them though. You're not going to get actual numbers for how much the GM made, but you might get an idea of how much they pay the entire front office. 19. Was it? Most of it has been rather lame for a long time. That's why we have sites like this.
  20. Well, that's pretty cool. Welcome back Doug!
  21. I really don't know how I personally feel about this one. If he gets the job out of ST, great. It'll be fun to watch him. If they decide to wait a few weeks so they get an extra arb year out him, I understand that too. If the team legitimately feels he needs some AAA time, and he doesn't get called up until June... I understand that one too. There are many good arguments for taking any of those paths. I would say that I would be most happy with him starting out of ST, or calling him up to get the extra year. This is all based on the assumption that he has a good spring and is ready for the job.
  22. The clear answer is Wilkin Ramirez.
  23. Trading Revere frees up less than a million, to be replaced presumably by someone at half a million - how does this allow the Twins to spend what it takes to get a top starter? Trading Revere actually doesn't free up any money. We still have to pay Worley, who actually made $2,500 more than Revere last year. So, it's basically a wash as far as payroll goes. As for the Bourn question... not a chance.
  24. I'm pretty sure the players don't get to pick which team they go in under any more. It's decided by the HOF itself, usually based on where the player had the biggest impact. Clearly, that would have been during his amazing career with the Twins.
  25. It's much too early to angry with the front office for not fixing the rotation yet. It is only the first day of the winter meetings. So, I agree with you 100% on that point. Also, not very excited by the idea of giving Dempster that much money. Maybe offer a one year deal, but he's looking for more than that. Any way about it, Dempster should not be the first pitcher they go after.
