  1. Short answer, no. If the Twins feel they need to add a catcher for a short amount of time, go after a free agent. All that is going to cost you is money, not a prospect.
  2. I'm with you 100%, SABR. Signing him would basically be hedging your bets. I'm not 100% convinced it is a good idea, and I would not be excited if it was the Twins' only splash in free agency this year (or pitching acquisition). If this was the first of one or two more pitching acquisitions, I wouldn't be against it.
  3. I don't think they're shopping him too hard. It looks like the Cards turned down an offer of JJ Hardy for Miller. I don't know if there was anything else to that deal, but it looks to me that the only way we could get him would be if we had a stud SS and gave up a Buxton or Sano. I would be against any deal involving Sano or Buxton. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2013/11/cards-turned-down-orioles-pitch-for-shelby-miller.html
  4. Sorry guys. I would have asked some questions but I didn't see this until you guys were done. I listened to the aftermath though, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I hope to see more of these.
  5. Yeah. Poor guy. Now it is time for the Twins to hire him as a coach.
  6. The person that I think this move has the most impact for is Plouffe. Think about it, Joe is at 1st, probably going to have Sano at 3b by mid summer. The outfield is going to be manned by Willingham, probably Hicks by some point in the summer, Arcia, possibly (very optimistically) Buxton at some point in the summer, not to mention any number of other options that might claim a spot like Parmalee, Colabello, Presley... I don't really see him as a DH. He is starting to look like a man without a position.
  7. I was assuming that all you were going to post was a picture of AJ and his bleach blonde hair.
  8. This might also signal to Plouffe as well that his days may be numbered. He has to be aware that we've got quite the 3B prospect in Sano making his way up the system. What position will Plouffe end up at now? The Twins are definitely not handing the spot over to Plouffe now that Mauer is there, and the outfield looks to be filling up with Willingham, Arcia, Hicks, Presley, and eventually Buxton. Maybe he ends up at DH?
  9. Where's the like button when you need it! Mark DeRosa is always the answer. Too bad there's only one of him. Can we clone him and have him play all 9 positions?
  10. McCann is probably a pipe dream. Salty might be too. A.J. would actually not be all that bad. You could sign him for a shorter contract, allowing Pinto to learn some things. I'd probably have to stop booing him at games then (for the record, he is the only player that I actively boo at games). I doubt he would sign here though.
  11. Those Robot jerks.
  12. It's not just you. TD is taking forever to load today.
  13. I hope he doesn't retire. We need one more season of Mark DeRosa free agency speculation.
  14. There's also the fact that they were drafting at #4 in 2013 ($4.5M slot) rather than #2 in 2012 ($6.2M Slot, although Buxton signed for $6M even). The slot numbers did go up slightly from 2012 to 2013, so you can't really compare slot values from year to year. As long as the Twins spend their entire bonus pool for both college and international draftees, I'm fine with what they're doing. If their leaving money on the table, then there is possibly a problem. So, bonus money for rule 4 draft and international "draftees" really isn't related to international free agent spending.
  15. This is exactly what I thought of when the question was asked. Now that Gardy doesn't have to worry about his contract, adding someone that would be a potential next manger shouldn't be as threatening. The two year Gardy allows Molitor to get some experience, Gardy to get his 1000th win with the Twins, and potentially allows Gardy to announce that he will retire after 2015 and do a farewell tour, where he can take on a role with the org like TK did. Molitor can then take over as the next manager. This is all speculation, but I could easily see this happening.
  16. That was probably complaining about the particular draft. Not all draft classes are equal. The 2014 draft class is supposed to be pretty deep.
  17. You don't know that for sure. I'm sure he'd like to be one, but nothing is certain. That's the same thing as saying that Josh Johnson will be a Twins. Lincecum is definitely going get a QO, so any other team is going to have to give up a pick. Seattle's first round pick is protected, but they may value it quite a bit. The Twins are on record as saying "they're not married" to their second round pick. I'm not saying this means the Twins will sign him, but it's way too early to say he will be with any one team. If he does end up being a Mariner though, I will buy you a beer.
  18. No reason to give up on Hicks yet. Especially now that his value is so low. Maybe I'm just being optimistic here, but I think there is still plenty of time for Hicks to turn things around and prove he's a serviceable MLBer. Maybe not the super star we hoped many years ago, but I think he could still have an impact, especially if he and Buxton are in the same outfield.
  19. It's nice to see them getting some things together in the AFL. Got to keep in mind the really small sample so far, but it is encouraging.
  20. Thanks for the video. The double looked like it might be tough to stretch that for two bases for a lot of guys, but it was definitely a solid shot. I hope he keeps that up though. Rosario seems to be having a good AFL so far. He's only played 2 games though, so small sample size is definitely in effect here.
  21. I can't say anything too specific that I'm looking for, but I would definitely welcome a description of the game and any highlights.
  22. Yup. This obviously isn't just a rumor any more: Josh Freeman to sign with Minnesota Vikings - ESPN
  23. It sounds like it is to announce that everyone is staying put.
  24. Pinto got "beaned"
  25. Two scoreless innings in a row!?!?!?! What kind of madness is this?
