  1. Yeah. That just happened.
  2. To be fair, I read the original statement that trading a player less than half a year into a 4 year deal would damage the credibility of a team's front office. I don't think he was attacking your credibility. I could be wrong, but that is how I interpreted the original statement. I think there is a point there too. What player would want to sign with a team that he knows will trade him immediately when the whole point of getting a multi-year deal is so that you have some security. Also, I think there are a lot of people reading way too much into these statements. Does anyone really think that TR is suddenly going to indicate who he thinks should be in the starting rotation before the third spring training game? No. He's not. He may have guys that he hopes step up and take on the role, but he's not going to just tell everyone right away who he wants. Players can read these interviews as well, and I'm sure he's trying to instill a spirit of competition behind the scenes as well so he can get the best out of all his players. It would be very hard to give that message to the players and then tell the public he wants Meyer to have the job.
  3. The academy is pretty great. It's a great idea. It's obviously going to be a big deal for those guys that are playing for the Miracle, GC Twins, and those guys that start in extended spring training. The TJ question is not something anyone can really answer. I don't think anyone has nailed down one root cause as to why players end up needed it, and it's really tough to build a exercise/stretching program to prevent it. If you could figure out how to do that and prevent even 50% of the current amount of TJ surgeries, I'm sure there are several MLB teams that would probably give you a very lucrative position in the organization to help them develop that training program.
  4. That ball did not look like it was gone off of the bat. He definitely muscled that one out of there.
  5. I had a feeling that this game was going to end as a 1 -1 tie. My feeling was confirmed.
  6. The Twins aren't broadcasting it. I'm listening on the MLB app and it's only the Pirates broadcast. Also, you are correct about Sano launching a homer, off of Garret Cole. They did not mention how far it was.
  7. I have a feeling that this is an extension to buy out the arb years and maybe one of the first free agent years, but I kind of doubt that last part. Anyway, they can talk all they want. Who knows, nothing at all may happen. I have a feeling there aren't going to be any losers in this situation. It will probably be something pretty fair for both the Twins and Dozier.
  8. This is great news, let's hope it is happening for sure. Sounds like a promising prospect. I thought I had read that several that there were quite a few teams that were going to possible outspend their international bonus pools this year (probably on mlbtraderumors.com, but I'm too lazy to look it up). I believe that I read that most teams think there will be some sort of international draft instituted after 2016 and teams that overspent the bonus pool after this was announced might be penalized beyond the current penalties. So 2015 might be the last time that teams can really blow it out on international prospect bonuses. ...or this was some crazy dream that I had.
  9. I agree with you on this. If Sano can't handle 3B, well then they will move him some place else. There seem to be some mixed scouting reports on this, but most of the reports that I've seen in the past few years seem to lean more towards Sano being able to stick at 3B. We'll have to see what the TJ surgery does, but other position players that have had it didn't really seem to have a problem throwing. To be honest, Sano could probably be a little worse than Plouffe on defense and it would still be worth keeping Sano there. I like Plouffe, but let's be realistic here, it's not like we'd be giving up gold glove defense for someone with Miguel Cabrera type 3B defense. We're talking about average defense vs probably slightly below average defense. Plouffe could have a ton of trade value this year around July. There are teams looking for even an average 3B, and the fact that he still has 3 years of team control makes him even more valuable. Once again, we really only need to worry about this if everything goes right.
  10. I can't wait for this to be a problem. Let's say that both Plouffe and Sano are doing well, and it's time to bring up Sano. I have a feeling that there will be several teams that will be calling the Twins about Plouffe. Some team that is making a playoff push is going to need a 3B, and I think July is going to be just about the peak of Plouffe's value (at least for this year). I really think that a team will end up giving up more (as in better) pieces in July than in the offseason.
  11. I like the idea as well. Reading the blog, it kind of sounds like this was Neil Allen's idea. I think it makes a lot of sense. From other interviews I've heard from Allen, it sounds like he's really into knowing a lot about the pitchers he's working with.
  12. Slow down there, Turbo. Let's see how everyone is pitching in a few spring training games before we start to contemplate that idea. One step at a time. I hope Nolasco feeling better translates to him pitching better this season. I hope all the starting rotation contenders pitch incredibly well and force the coaching staff to make some really tough decisions on who starts the year with the big league club. Then... and only then, should we start discussing being above average.
  13. I think that the next one will be Mauer. Hometown hero, possible HOF'er, will probably stick with the team his entire career. Hard to argue with retiring that number. I wouldn't be against retiring Radke's number, but I can understand the argument against doing that as well. He really did give everything to the team though.
  14. Right. There's a lot of back and forth about whether signing Hunter was done because of his on the field play, mentoring abilities, how he is as teammate or PR. But why can't all of those things be reasons for signing him? As long as the advice Torii is giving to guys like Hicks isn't contradicting the work that the coaching staff is doing, I'm all for him giving all the advice he wants. I'm hoping it Hicks takes this advice and lives up to the potential that he has.
  15. You get a discount? Man... that would have been good information to have yesterday, when I bought tickets to a wild game. Oh well, live and learn.
  16. I think that having the pitch clock in AA and AAA for a few years is going to help a lot. I would be willing to wait a little bit before implementing it in the MLB. The idea is that the guys in AA and AAA will get used to pitching at that pace, and eventually replace the guys in the MLB. Hopefully, they won't slow down too much once they get there and we'll have a bunch of guys that are paced like Pavano and Buehrle. Purists don't have to worry about having a clock, and the fans will appreciate the game at a faster pace.
  17. There are always scalpers around with tickets. Their prices aren't usually too bad. You can usually grab some decent tickets from them, and they if you wait until the game has started, they sometimes take a little off. Fridays in May probably won't sell out, but they could get a little full. If you want to ensure that you have a seat, you might want to grab something off the Twins website directly, or from stub hub. You'll have more options that way anyway. I guess it really depends on how risk averse you are. If you want the certainty, just buy some tickets now. If you're willing to risk it and maybe having to pay a bit, or sit in a crappy seat (there really aren't that many seats that are crappy at Target Field), then go with the scalper or box office option.
  18. Well... this is something that no one cares about. I say to make it fair though, they should replay the series with the same rosters.
  19. I can understand that. I should clarify that by "breakthrough" for Gibson, I really mean that he just becomes more consistent. I don't think he's going to suddenly start striking out guys left and right and become a Cy Young contender. More like a consistent #3 or #4 type pitcher, which is valuable to have around. I still think May is going to really break out. Pretty much to the level that you suggested earlier. To me, it seems like the Twins have a few guys that are really ready to breakout. Vargas, Arcia and Pinto are all great suggestions and very well good breakout this year. For pitching, I could see May and Meyer really tearing up the league this year. I think we probably won't see Berrios until September. There are enough guys around, and the I have a hard time seeing the Twins adding him to the 40-man really early in the year, but I think Berrios will for the issue with a solid minor league season.
  20. Thanks for all the advice everyone. I appreciate it. Thanks for the bus information. We're staying on Ft. Myers beach, so it would take about 2 hours to get to the stadium via the bus. So that idea is out. We were going to rent bikes, but it's about 12.5 miles away. The ladyfriend and I are pretty avid cyclists, but that may be just out of range for the casual bike ride to the park. So, it looks like our options are renting a car, or possibly a couple of scooters.
  21. I'm too slow. I was going to post something almost exactly like this. I also think that Gibson will be better. I don't know if we will call it a breakthrough, but he'll be more consistent and will make us all reasonably happy. Or, hopefully, both May and Gibson have breakthrough seasons. If this happens, it's going to be a much happier season around Twins territory.
  22. Hmm... That might change our plans a bit. We had planned on taking the bus to get around. I'm not sure if that is something that is doable. The ladyfriend wanted to stay on Ft. Meyers beach.... which appears to be a little bit of a hike to the stadium. We're generally the type to rent bikes, so that might be an option too, but the beach appears to be some 12 miles away from the stadium. That might be a bit much.
  23. Great questions. I am also heading to spring training for the first time this year. We have our dates picked out, but we haven't officially booked a hotel. Does anyone have any recommendations on where to stay? We're not planning on having a car, so we will need to be able to get to the games somehow. Also, should we buy tickets ahead of time, or should we just buy them as we get there?

I just saw this thread... and it is awesome. Goldeneye and Mario Kart are both fantastic games. And playing as Oddjob is cheating. Everyone knows that. Especially if you crouch the whole time. You deserve a karate chop to the back of the head for that kind of activity.
