  1. Yeah they definitely never ambushed anybody, or looked anemic against better arms in the 1st half....
  2. Who is arguing that the Twins need to give the Ws back?
  3. Cease & Giolito just combined for 11 innings, 1 run, and 18 Ks. Castillo and Kirby combined for 13 innings, 3 runs (all Castillo's) and 21 Ks to wrap the previous series. The Twins certainly took advantage of some bad (Oakland & Chicago) and inexperienced (Seattle) pitching but Idk if that's a departure from anything they did in the first half.
  4. Probably not as hard I as laugh reading the tone of these posts that completely miss the mark.... They absolutely are part of the problem. Defense first OFers tend to play CF and be platoon/4th OFers. They aren't stalwarts in RF (a bat first position) with a below average bat. Depending on how much stock you want to put in defensive metrics, Kepler hasn't been anything special defensively this year either. Gallo was a bounce back candidate that hasn't worked out. He wasn't some insurance policy and nobody was planning on him "carrying the offense." The guy has been an albatross. He has started 60 games, 53 have been in LF or 1B with a bulk of the latter coming while Kirilloff worked his way back. What are these other two positions he has played "extensively?" I don't understand the need to obfuscate reality to justify roster spots for these two. The calculus here is simple, the Twins can (should) move on from both guys next year, and there are replacements deserving of a shot at AAA.
  5. They've continued to stick it out with Kepler and Gallo, I guess I'll believe it when I see it with sitting Buxton. If he hits the Il as soon as Polanco is back there should be plenty of questions about why they didn't make that move sooner...
  6. If the Twins were sending out a talent like Goldschmidt, would you be happy with that return? Be honest. This looks like a fantasy football swap where one side thinks they can throw together a handful of spare parts on the bench and poach a RB1.
  7. They shouldn't. This team is also 21-28 vs teams above .500 and 15-17 against sub .500 teams not named KC or Oakland. I wouldn't bank on winning many 1-0 games (middle game of that 1st Baltimore series) in the postseason but it could happen I guess. I get why some would move on. None of the above improves by shipping out Gray though. I'd keep him. Entertainment is the product, winning is more fun than losing, and MN's odds of doing the former are better if Gray is starting in October. I think there are other ways to make up whatever hypothetical future talent you're eschewing to hang onto Gray for the 2nd half.
  8. I get the need for optimism with this team, but I agree, if we're going to hold up a 6-3 stretch as evidence that this team is turning it on, or performing the way we'd expect them to, I think it's fair to ask how often we expect to get two historically awful teams for 2/3 of every 9 game stretch.
  9. Low-key rooting for TX because I want to catch him at TF this year.
  10. Tell me you don't watch games without telling me you don't watch games....
  11. Is he, or did he just have a 4 hit game against KC? His OPS by month: April .634 May .730 June .735 July .696 Obviously that July number is subject to change, but whichever way you want to slice it (3 weeks or 4 weeks) he has a sub .700 OPS in the time frame and it certainly isn't just the OBP dragging it down. That's not close to being in line with his .825 career mark.
  12. So we're taking away innings from a rotation that has carried this team and giving them to a washed up, veteran SP and a bullpen with 2-3 reliable arms. Ok.... Was watching Chris Archer scuffle through short starts and chew up a middling pen last year so enjoyable that we feel the need to repeat it?
  13. On top of the aforementioned price paid for this rotation, we're just going to ignore the fact that the bullpen has 4-5 arms that can't handle any sort of leverage right now, or that despite the rotation being mostly healthy for the first half (RIP Mahle,) they're one minor/major injury away from Dallas ****king Keuchel starting games because "pipeline," guys like Varland and SWR are getting blown up at AAA? Can we just enjoy three months of good starts before racing to crown this team a top pitching organization? I mean seriously....
  14. Comma usage wasn't the issue, the lack of a conjunction to specify which year(s) was.
  15. As it turns out, it's important to choose the correct part of speech in order to convey the intended message. Wild.
  16. Or they've beaten up an awful team and played meh to poor baseball outside of those series... You mean TB right? LA? The Twins are 22-27 against teams over .500. Their record against sub .500 teams other than KC isn't good either.
  17. Nearly a quarter of this team's Ws have come against KC. That's not an advantage? The Twins have a losing record in 20 games against all other division opponents. That isn't a massive opportunity (advantage) squandered when you consider how middling to bad those other three teams are?
  18. Every year? They've finished 5th and 3rd the last two years in this terrible division. The lineup, which has struggled all year, also has to face playoff rotations. There won't be a 39 year old, washed up Zack Greinke trying to squeeze out a 6th inning after being battered in the first 5, during playoff contests. You can "give it a shot," without pushing in valuable chips on a very flawed team. Why should we take them seriously as an actual WS contender? That's the better question. They've stumbled through the first 80+ games of the year, and despite having the massive advantage of playing in the ALC, they're fighting just to stay around .500. A regression argument that ignores the other side of that coin isn't all that compelling. Take the invitation, don't try to keep up with the Joneses.
  19. Don't sell Greinke, Marsh, and Cox too short! 1-9 vs MN is about the max amount of help possible so far.
  20. Complaining about Kepler criticism being disingenuous while framing the side making the arguments as "ADHD fans with outsized expectations, obsessing over shiny new toys," seems odd.... You're expecting 3 WAR production, and if things break right even more value? Kinda hard to take some of this seriously...
  21. Gallo has an OBP below league average, he isn't working his way on at any sort of impressive clip. The OPS, which now sits sub .800, is HR driven, and those HR clusters have been oases in a desert of offensive ineptitude, i.e. he's a black hole a vast majority of the time. To me, that's pretty empty. Yeah, I'd put Kepler in the same boat, but for guys like Larnach or Wallner to beat out the incumbents, they need to be given the opportunity to do so. The Twins seem very content to continue investing innings into Kepler and/or Gallo despite the lack of production.
  22. Would I trade .100 points from what I'd consider to be a pretty empty OPS for the opportunity to see if a 26 year old, who may have an actual future with the team, can stay healthy and be consistently productive? Yep.
  23. He probably hasn't been worth the signing. He's contributed massively to the offensive struggles the last two months and he's actively blocking players that need regular ABs. His K% is actually about 50% over the last two months, and that includes his recent "hot streak." His pace the last two weeks, or what you're referencing in April isn't sustainable. We saw that in May and through most of June. The Twins don't need him at 1B, he isn't a CF'er, and he's blocking Larnach and/or Wallner in the corners. The absolute best case is that he hits a couple more HR's, doesn't turn back into a pumpkin before the deadline, and some quasi contender convinces themselves he's worth a lotto ticket.
