  1. Who is even saying that here?
  2. Heh, ISWYDT
  3. I know of no one who is voting for her solely because she is a woman. None. Yes, there are plenty who have made a big deal out of the fact that she is a woman but they are voting for her based on what she stands for and are excited that on top of that, she happens to be a woman. And make no mistake, if she does win, it will be historic to elect a woman whether you like her or not. Maybe you don't find reason to celebrate that, but I have a lifetime of reasons to celebrate that and will if she wins. But yes, there are those who will cast a vote based solely on gender. I'd bet there are more who will vote against based on that than will vote for. Same along racial lines in 2008. And I know of one person who will never vote for another white male in her lifetime if there is a viable, qualified alternative.
  4. Please provide pictures, van!
  5. Cheese curds ... yum! Figures it's grouch day today. It's my day today, too. I'm grouchy today. I'm tired, too. Couldn't play tennis this morning and that never bodes well for a good day. Grrrr ... just leave me the **** alone!
  6. My point is no one here is making the mountain out of molehill here except you regarding this one issue.
  7. Honestly, my conversation is about in here, not there. And you will have that out there because, well, people and social media. But Michelle isn't a candidate for anything and likely won't be, per her own statements to the fact she doesn't like the campaigning nor the public scrutiny. It's a far cry from people respecting an individual for their heartfelt intelligence vs someone like Trump. And if momentum continues to carry beyond the week, which I doubt, into an eventual presidential candidacy in 8 years, which I also highly doubt, between her and Trump she would be a far better, far more qualified candidate than him. But this has gotten to be a very ridiculous conversation. I think there is room for a few of us to applaud Michelle and even wonder if she could be a great leader without you jumping the shark, telling us it would be akin to a Trump candidacy, reacting too literally and too seriously too soon. If you see that kind of 'Michelle in 2024' idiocy from any of us here, then by all means. In the meantime, your mountain is just uncalled for. Imo.
  8. Oy ... well, the molehill was just the respect and admiration people have for Michelle, the mountain is your immediate assumption and dismissal. Really. And I roll my eyes at the above sticker, meme, whatever, because well, yeah, on that you and I agree. But just consider the source.
  9. Again ... you are taking this far too literally and jumping quite a few sharks in the process. Perhaps those of us who think she'd make a great leader do actually know more about her than this one speech. Perhaps that one speech was a culmination and tipping point from the admiration and respect already held for Michelle Obama to thinking ... yeah ... maybe she could do great things. Is that so hard to imagine? No one here is holding signs up that say 'Michelle 2024' ... no one. Once again ... mountains over there, molehills over here.
  10. No, it didn't say 'give her power' it said 'voter her into power' and it was one person's opinion that he thought she'd make a great leader. Which you immediately dismissed with what seemed to be little thought. Perhaps done so because of well, what's out there now. But it's a bit of a jump going from someone's enthusiasm over a great speech saying something that many really don't want to hear and doing so with heartfelt honesty to comparing her to Trump and his followers.
  11. From living in Chicago, you must know her background and work experiences ... or maybe you don't? I think she has great qualifications ... not to run for president, at least not initially ... but she could run for some kind of public office and do very well. Although, one qualification she does not possess, which is necessary, and will likely be the reason we never see her in political office ... she doesn't like campaigning. But she gave one powerful speech the other night. Probably the best we've heard on the campaign trail yet this year. What made it the best, imo, it didn't seem studied or measured, it felt honest and personal and from the heart. And she was right in what she said. And while I agree that we should never anoint anyone based on one speech, we also needn't outright dismiss them, either. She's intriguing, and I think that's what some of us were on about rather than take us so literally and then jumping to the comparison of Trump. Yeeesh.
  12. Oh. Then I take that back.
  13. That's my kind of a tasting!
  14. Michele Obama. There's your wow moment in a good way.
  15. OMG!!!OMG!!!OMG!!!OMG!!!OMG!!!OMG!!!OMG!!!OMG!!!OMG!!!OMG!!!OMG!!!OMG!!!OMG!!!OMG!!!OMG!!!OMG!!!OMG!!!OMG!!!OMG!!!OMG!!!OMG!!!OMG!!!OMG!!!OMG!!!OMG!!!OMG!!!OMG!!!OMG!!!OMG!!! So excited! Wide-eyed excited.
  16. If I had to choose a team, it would be Cleveland for what you said. I always want to the ALC teams do well. I also like the teams from 'middle america' get in there. But I'm not a huge Cubs person. Partly because the media is salivating over it.
  17. So, who is everyone cheering for (or against) at this point? If at all? I'm not really cheering for or against anyone.
  18. I don't think I have a favorite. To say I love Paris seems trite but I love Paris. And I've had varying memorable experiences. My trip to Australia/New Zealand probably remains the highlight. My sister and I did this: http://www.qctrack.co.nz/ It was a 4-day hike through the Marlborough Sounds. Day 1 was so-so in difficult ... just one big up followed by a long down. Day two was around an inlet, no biggie. It was the easiest and shortest day. Day 3 was the most grueling ... a lot of up, all day, on a ridge trail. My muscles were sore. Then came the point in the day to start hiking down. I nearly fell over ... different use of the muscles. I was tired. The final day was going to be a little more like day 3 but shorter. And we had to be at our pick up point on schedule, or miss the ferry back. Got up and it was damp, gray, drizzly, chilly. My muscles are sore and I'm prepared for the most miserable day of my life. We got an early start and started going up, up ... all of a sudden, we broke through the ground cover and it was sunny and blue skies above the clouds. Life was good again. And it was just beautiful and amazing. But then there was the 4 days of sailing through the Whitsunday Islands in Australia and seeing whales, unintentionally and really up close.
  19. Well, let's see what's in my passport ... Australia New Zealand Japan All around Europe Brazil Argentina Paraguay My forays into Canada and Mexico were before passports were required, although I did use it quite frequently coming and going from Canada because with my work permit, it was just easier to have it if ever stopped and questioned. Which I was. On more than one occasion. Because, well, I'm an untrustworthy 'merican.
  20. I was in Munich for work and Oktoberfest just happened to be happening right then. I didn't have much free time so I didn't go to the actual fest and glad I didn't hearing from my colleagues who did. Not my thing. Just lots of big beer tents. I opted to be touristy and had a beer and some food at the Hofbrauhaus instead.
  21. Okay ... that's not in SE Mn ... when you said you went to school in LaCrosse ... I thought you meant grammar/hs ... but you were talking about college? I grew up in SE Mn ... in Winona, actually, which isn't small town rural ... it's more mediocre town surrounded by rural. But went to high school with a lot who were truly small town rural.
  22. Not to change the subject, but just where did you grow up? You sound like you were in my neck o' the woods.
  23. That was great. And reading the comments was interesting, too. It didn't break down into name-calling and denial and pointing fingers. Mostly.
  24. Um, Glen Beck endorsed (softly) Hillary? Is the world ending? Are pigs flying? Cats and dogs together ...
