  1. Holiday travel isn't any worse than travel anytime ... there are just more people. I have one thing to say: TSA pre-check ... worth. every. penny. (I actually have global entry from when I did a lot more international work travel, and that includes pre-check. Also worth. every. penny.) Seriously. Those lines are sometimes long-ish, but they go fast. And the people cutting because they couldn't get themselves to the airport on time likely don't have pre-check. With pre-check I don't have to arrive quite as early ... about an hour (we're talking O'Hare and Midway where regular security check I usually plan on 90 minutes not busy times, 2 hrs busy times). Domestically I travel (by plane) about 9 times/year. It's not a lot compared to business travelers, but it's enough. I will never fly without pre-check again. And I'm having oatmeal for breakfast. Safe travels and enjoy your holiday in Cali.
  2. No bad feelings. In my case, wisdom comes with age. That can't be said of everyone, but it's true in my case.
  3. Wow. I wonder what details of the event that were in that report that broke the team's resolve on the boycott. Must have been something.
  4. I wonder if that's a way for the Giants to push the Dodgers to give up more for him?
  5. Personally, it shouldn't matter. And I wonder if this would be talked about as much as it has if it weren't players on the football team involved.
  6. We won't know either way ... so there shouldn't be praise or condemnation if it doesn't go through. I'd be more willing to praise or condemn an actual trade because that is an actuality and no longer speculation. Then again, if it's prospects, the immediate excitement or disappointment can't really be judged until pieces either work out or don't. And again, we don't know how it came to where it is, so any praise or condemnation won't include what they should or shouldn't have gotten. Yeah, i'm boring that way ... just can't do the speculation thing and then get upset over speculation.
  7. This. If the Dodgers need and want him, pay up. If not, then carry on. This whole concept of the Twins being desperate for pitching, while yes, not untrue that they need pitching, but if we are going into a trade scenario expressing OUR desperation, where is the leverage in that? Our new FO said from the very beginning ... pay up or no go. If it ends up being a no go, then the FO held their ground and the Dodgers obviously didn't give them a package worthy enough. That is not a failure, imo. All these rumors of what this trade includes is just that ... rumors. While I do trust that Dave was told certain information, and he has shared that information in good faith, I don't necessarily trust the source because I don't personally know exactly who his source is. But I do find it interesting that some of the same names he mentioned are being floated elsewhere, but again ... I'm not a fly on the wall and neither is anyone else.
  8. It seems from this that surgery went well and he is expected to make a full recovery. It is amazing what can be done in today's age. And hopefully his body will completely accept the new organs. http://www.kare11.com/news/carew-begins-18-hour-heart-kidney-transplant/371789210
  9. Too bad you weren't in Chicago last weekend ... the orchestra performed the soundtrack along with the movie ... pretty fun
  10. In my experience, Ash usually gets what he deserves.
  11. Yeah ... my mom did something like that once ... I asked for a car, I got a toy car. Not that I expected a real car, but ... And then one year my mom put rocks, a raw potato and willow sticks in our stockings. Yeah, we were all older. Another year she wrapped up this present ... it was pretty large ... and said it was for all four of us kids to share. What could it be??? It was a framed, oversized campaign poster of her from years earlier. Yup ... we were supposed to each have 3 months of mom hanging around our homes/apartments.
  12. Please stay to topic. If you want to talk about the ACLU, vacations, steroids in baseball, etc ... please start a new thread in the proper forum. This thread took a huge veer off course and since 'righting the ship' it's been pretty good. Let's keep it in that realm, please.
  13. Hope all goes well!
  14. Well, would your rather party with Riverbrian or Seth?
  15. Also ... ensembles for music majors IS educational and necessary and vital to that education. It is part of the music educational pursuit whether you become a teacher, administrator, performer, etc ... it is VITAL to the core of that education, and is often credited, so it is quite different from football in that regard. But I suppose musical ensembles could be equated to some types of music majors as playing football would be to some kind of a sports major? Sorry ... I'm taking this way off track now ... it's just not an easy or truly equivocal comparison.
  16. They didn't cut the band, they suspended it (and they suspended it before). And it was the marching band not the concert band ... the former being as much a social extra-curricular activity (such as a club) as well as a musical endeavor, and only exists along side football or other sporting events. While it's music, I wouldn't put it in the same category whatsoever as the orchestra or concert band. (And yes, this is way off topic ... but I think marching bands can be compared to football teams ... but other artistic ensembles I wouldn't say so, but we don't want to get into that.)
  17. I had one ranking the whole way through ... Imelda Marcos with the tag line 'Need more shoes!' I'm not sure whose humor that was ... Brock's or Kobs' but it was funny.
  18. Lol, no. I have very straight hair. I had shorter, feathered-back hair
  19. Oh Lord ... why would you want to picture nightmares???
  20. Oh ... the gift bags include ... a hot choc pkg, a 2-fer truffle pkg, and a little bag of pebernodder.
  21. Lol ... you might get lucky ... next year ... this year I'm taking no new applications!
  22. Okay ... hot chocolate ... I'm gonna let y'all in on a secret ... the best I've ever had ... truly, ever ... is this right here: http://chocolategarden.com/drinking_chocolate.htm I know it looks weird, and you make it with hot water, and I was skeptical given both those ... but ... THE! BEST! And that place also has the best truffles ... O!M!G! They get a huge order from me every year when I make up gift bags for everyone around me.
  23. Omg ... your Dad is just 3 years older than me! I could be your ... aunt!
  24. You would have been fine. But yeah, it wasn't a site for everyone and they weren't very nice to 'newcomers.' I think they left me alone mostly because, well, I was an 'old lady' and because, well, I didn't really care, and I didn't participate all that heavily except for the 'For Better or For Worse' thread that was set up for me and Hawkiconk. Heh.
  25. Heh ... FBFW.
