  1. That looks like a nice respite spot. I wouldn't mind sitting there for an hour or three looking at nature and contemplating life.
  2. I'm indifferent on Vavra, not really knowing what he did or didn't contribute. But I think Sconnie has a very good point, that if the FO didn't feel Vavra contributed in the manner they wanted, he would have been out at the end of the season, as was the pitching coach. I don't think it's a matter of Molitor 'winning' or not. Vavra wasn't really a 'Molitor guy' anyway ... he was brought on by Gardy. So, it's not surprising he'll be moving on and I wish him well going forward.
  3. Yes and no. LA was the ONLY team interested, not because Dozier wasn’t good, but because they were the only team with a need at second, who would be in contention, and had pieces to offer. If you are the only team bidding, why would you offer anything close to equal? That’s what the situation was and why some of us weren’t in favor of the one to one offer, even though it was likely the best we were going to get ... we didn’t feel it was enough to basically give away Dozier and if we had, that would have been a trade of desperation, one proven wise not to make. It didn’t and doesn’t mean we aren’t willing to part with good players for much needed SP help, but as proven this year, DeLeon wouldn’t have helped and would’ve been worse than everyone we trotted out there this year. It doesn’t mean that DeLeon won’t turn into something, and it doesn’t mean we won’t regret it next year, although that is getting less likely as time goes on. And it doesn’t mean we can’t still try to trade for DeLeon, but if Dozier is the trade chip, we are now in a position to command more than just DeLeon. It means it was an extremely risky trade to pull the trigger on and was good we didn’t do that at that time. Doesn’t mean we can’t and shouldn’t continue to find offers by trading good pieces for a good return. Yes, we need to build SP depth to be able to compete this year and into the future, but we can’t trade away too many good position players, either, for the same reason. We need to find the right balance of trades, and Dozier for DeLeon was not the right balance in many’s opinions.
  4. Come on ... do I really need to say it ... again? Regardless your feelings about Vavra, be respectful.
  5. This ... plus this ... equals concur.
  6. There’s a no-hitter happening tonight so far
  7. Or were interviewed and no offer was made as there was someone else Falvine liked better. But yes,we’ll all wait and see. There are reasons to feel hopeful and reasons to feel skeptical, so waiting and seeing is a good alternative as well.
  8. Since I think the GG award is pretty much useless at this point, I don't think anything is truly egregious, except maybe the award itself, I do think it laughable Mauer not receive consideration. If innings played is a consideration, then they should up the line for qualifying, especially if it is the difference maker for voters. I also think one of the above posters made an interesting point ... errors saved ... although that's truly hard to qualify, but from my eye test, I'd say Mauer had plenty of those from Polanco and Sano. But then ... I couldn't say how many of those any of the others had, either.
  9. I do get the innings played and how that may have entered into the decision, and I think is a valid point for not winning, but that he didn't even make top of the list is more than surprising to me ... but then again, it just validates the worthlessness this award has become.
  10. Okay, well ... a few said they wanted someone they've never heard of before ... those few got their wish. I'll decide if I like it sometime next season.
  11. No, not the way DeLeon pitched this year, he would not have been an improvement to the club this past year and would not have been an improvement over the others we saw this past year. And further, if we had De Leon and not Dozier this past season, we wouldn’t have made the playoffs. Period. That doesn’t mean that next year we might be regretting it. But we still have Dozier, who has more sure value now than at this time last year, we can still trade him and will come out ahead, IMO. Some feel that DeLeon, the more that time marches on, and given what he’s done so far in his career, is not going to be the SP that this club needs. I get that you still have hope that DeLeon will be that 1/2 SP we need, but he’s not yet, so, given where Dozier is today and where DeLeon is today, it was right for us not to make that trade one to one last January. I don’t think anyone is calling the trade a definite win, because, as I said, maybe next year we’ll regret it, but for this year, no, it was not a regrettable move. That we still need SP is no doubt. That either through trade and signings and development, we need to do something. I don’t think anyone is arguing that. But this one transaction that didn’t happen, because we refused to give up an asset this past year that would have ended up being a net loss if we had, it’s a good thing, even if in hindsight. If you think DeLeon is still the future ace we need, maybe we can trade Dozier this year to the Rays for DeLeon straight up. Where is the loss then in not doing that last year?
  12. Moderator note: Stick to the topic. This is about pitching in the here and now, and into the future and does not include tangents of Slowey and Gardy/Andy from 2006-7.
  13. I'm not sure that Gray or Quintana would have cleaned out the system. However, we don't know if inquiries were made at all and who the FO thinks is 'untouchable' and who other GM's would have taken a hardline stance on. Who knows? Why I wished I could be privy to the conversations, and also why I won't expend too much energy on it. Yeah ... gets a bit frustrating and a lot disappointing ... but there's too much I don't know, both in the actual and talked about ... and it's also completely out of my control. Too me it's all just spilled milk ... not to infer that anyone's opinions or frustrations aren't valid ... that's just how I look at all of it.
  14. Well, I don’t agree that the Twins didn’t have the prospects to acquire pitching help. While this is a topic on Verlander, I’ll say I don’t think Verlander was a possibility because of Verlander, not because we didn’t have enough to get him. And perhaps a little bit of Detroit not really wanting to trade within division, but that’s a whole lot less likely than Verlander not wanting to come here, IMO. But I think we had the prospects for it, but who knows, maybe they would have held out for someone we didn’t want to let go of. That said, I think we had the prospects to add RP help like the Yankees did. That would have made a huge difference. I’m more disappointed in that than all this Verlander stuff. And I would have liked Quintana on our team. Verlander just wasn’t going to be a doable deal in my opinion, but another piece or two? I’d like to know what was going on with the FO discussions there as I think we had enough pieces there without depleting our resources. And maybe we still wouldn’t have won it all, but maybe it would have gotten us a bit further. But now we’ll never know and it’s onto next year. I’ll be looking for something this off season ...
  15. And I’d like to see the link where he said, ‘Yes, Minnesota is on my list.’ These statements go both ways and do nothing to bolster either argument. My assumption is he didn’t or we would have been in the mix of interested teams ... call that blind faith if you will, but not making a play if this were true wouldn’t have made any sense. And if he did say he’d play here and we didn’t go for him, then I’d agree, as I’ve said before, this wasn’t just a missed opportunity but a major fail. But we’ll never know for sure one way or another. And we’ll never know for sure if an inquiry was made or not.
  16. How old is she? She might like the Anne of Green Gables books by Lucy Maude Montgomery next
  17. Omg ... I LOVE LOVE LOVE Altuve! I am going to cheer on the Astros to the end of this! And McCullers ... wow ... that was an amazing game for him ... just wow.
  18. Oh barf. Seriously. Ugh. What a thing to read on a Sunday morning.
  19. Except for the opinion he didn’t want to be a Twin ...
  20. There is some truth in both of these statements. It does become an issue of trolling and when/where that line is crossed is one to be cautious of. But for now I think it’s okah to express concerns and frustration. While I don’t think it was possible to get Verlander ... not for a lack of willingness on our part, but for lack of willingness on Verlander’s part ... I do think there were moves that could have been made that weren’t, specifically, getting quality RP. What the Yankees did to bolster their BP is what we should have, and felt could have, done.
  21. Pretty good? I thought he was great!
  22. Well, then, there’s the answer. If true he wouldn’t waive his no-trade to come here, there was no missed opportunity. Also, and this is really a quibble or difference of semantics on my part, pursue for me is different from inquiry. Pursue is beyond inquiry. Not sure how others mean it, but that’s how I read it, for the sake of communicating clearly.
  23. Assuming the Twins made no inquiry (yes, they were rumored to not be one of the teams in on Verlander, doesn’t mean they didn’t inquire) and/or assuming you know that the response was positive to move forward into a more serious discussion about a trade, including we had an acceptible price the Tigers would agree to that didn’t include Buxton, Sano and/or Berrios AND Verlander agreed to waive his no-trade clause to come here, and the Twins decided otherwise, I concur. But until/unless you can give me all those details without leaning assumptions based on a certain opinion regarding the inabilities of our FO, I remain uncertain one way or the other.
  24. I’m not agreeing with the article merely restating it’s premise. I don’t see the savings either, particularly how the article has aligned the teams.
